A sequence of courses addressing all phases of the simulation analysis and modeling procedure is described. A taxonomy of simulation topics by area and curriculum level is provided. The main objectives of order sequencing in production systems are minimization of set-up times, continuous and optimal use of capacities, reliability of delivery, minimization of stock and throughput time as well as avoidance of undue system states.\u0000The complexity of the task of order sequencing usually requires the employment of heuristic methods rather than analytical approaches. Andreou","doi":"10.1145/62351.62369","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1145/62351.62369","url":null,"abstract":"This paper presents an approach to a problem of practical concern to the optimum guidance of a robot of at least two degrees of freedom but which may also have a direct application in any scientific field where optimum and near optimum solutions for the traveling salesman problem is needed.\u0000It is shown that the optimization of the traveling pattern of a surface mounting robot constitutes a TSP. Thereafter, the developed technique is applied to generate the traveling sequence of the robot.\u0000Results of examples are presented to illustrate the developed method and its effect in increasing the robot's throughput. The examples are real word applications of printed circuit board population. The major thesis is that traffic loads and message ratios are critical factors in network system performance. Thus, a message based priority protocol should not be designed based on any assumption on traffic and ratios. Since the dynamic protocol, proposed by Shen and Liu [12], is traffic and ratio independent, we argued that it should outperform the other two protocols, given a wide range of traffic and ratios. Such networks consist of a variety of devices connected to a high speed transmission medium having a geographic extent limited to a few kilometers. Topologically, the transmission medium and devices constitute a closed loop or ring. Devices transmit messages on the ring only after obtaining control of a permission token that regulates access to the transmission medium. Attention is focused on the token-ring access protocol since the available evidence (see [1] and [2] for example) suggests that this protocol results in small delays at light workloads and controlled delay at heavy workloads. The performance parameters evaluated by the software are: the maximum, and the average, achieveable data rate of each node; the maximum, and the average, message queueing delay; as well as, the maximum number of data bits at the output buffer of each node.
