Despite the increased popularity and distribution of AR, development of AR applications is not a simple endeavor. Not only because it is difficult for people without the technical know-how to implement their own AR application, but also because of the high costs of the maintenance and development of such applications. This paper outlines and details a possible design of a content management system (CMS) for AR-applications, which can be a potential solution to the problem mentioned above. Considering some limitations of the mobile applications, many particularities need to be considered while developing this system.","PeriodicalId":186364,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second African Conference for Human Computer Interaction: Thriving Communities","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123728714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In healthcare industry alone, we have witnessed major transformations from traditional healthcare systems of paper records to smart-connected healthcare systems, personalized healthcare devices, and mobile applications. The evolution of the healthcare industry through technology is phenomenal but scantly discussed. This means that, less is discussed regarding the ups and lows involved in the process of designing and developing the industry changers. This workshop targets the African healthcare solution designers and developers to share their experiences, challenges and best practices in proposing the healthcare solutions. The workshop aims to encourage collaboration and sharing experience among developers and Health Information Systems (HIS) researchers.","PeriodicalId":186364,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second African Conference for Human Computer Interaction: Thriving Communities","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121833051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Banking statements have always been a key touch point between banks and their customers and the design of digital statements (or e-statements) should therefore be a priority in e-banking design and delivery. When commissioned to assist with the re-design of a prominent bank's statements, the authors discovered a lack of published research related to bank statement design in general, and e-statement design in particular. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to propose guidelines for designing e-statements for e-banking. The guidelines were derived through concluding a systematic review of published literature on e-statement design and by examining the classical interface design guidelines for their applicability to e-statement design. By combining these results, a useful set of guidelines that constitute both a theoretical and a practical contribution within the fields of e-banking and user experience design, are presented. By considering these guidelines for e-statement design for e-banking, organizations may achieve a better outcome in terms of this customer experience touch point.","PeriodicalId":186364,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second African Conference for Human Computer Interaction: Thriving Communities","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130565383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We show that English, and symbols linked to English, perform in technologists' lifeworlds, felt-experiences and identities. Our reflections add to literature on mismatches between 'universal' paradigms and local ways of knowing. More significantly, they inspire deeper exploration of how language constrains design possibilities. Design research rarely remarks on linguistics in constructing technology or technologists. Yet, relationships between English and technology production exclude and inhibit the involvement of social, intellectual and emotional capitals in innovation.","PeriodicalId":186364,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second African Conference for Human Computer Interaction: Thriving Communities","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129575031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose an Internet of Things-based system to help preserve the Ndebele dress culture in a playful manner. The system requires a knowledgeable person to codify the correct combination of previously identified items of clothing and store it in the cloud. This information can subsequently be accessed from a geographically remote location to monitor the arrangement of tangible objects that represent the original pieces of clothing. We demonstrate the tangible interaction component of the proposed system by means of a single example using paper cuttings to represent the culturally correct combination of Ndebele head and neckpieces.","PeriodicalId":186364,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second African Conference for Human Computer Interaction: Thriving Communities","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133210664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the real problem has to do with peoples' negative attitudes and behaviors to the environment and resultant environmental problems. For instance, a high percentage of wastes generated in most developing countries in Africa are currently being disposed of via open dumping - which refers to a situation where people dump refuse on the streets. As responsible citizens, however, we should care more for the environment. We must take steps to reduce our personal ecological footprints, educate ourselves on what engenders environmental problems as well as change our attitudes towards our environment. In the last decade, computer-human interaction (CHI) research has evolved in response to the considerable increase in peoples' understanding of the influential roles that technology plays in everyday life. Technologies that are essentially designed for the purpose of influencing users to change their behaviors and attitudes, without using coercion or deception is referred to as Persuasive technology (PT). These behavioral and attitudinal changes are realized via the use of persuasive strategies. Persuasive strategies are techniques that are used in PT design to motivate behavior change and influence people to achieve specific goals in various domains like ecommerce, health and even in environmental management. As a first step towards contributing to research, this study focuses on how to design and implement a mobile persuasive system (a behavioral change support system BCSS) for waste management. This system when implemented could motivate users to change their attitudes and behaviors towards waste disposal and to care more for the environment.","PeriodicalId":186364,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second African Conference for Human Computer Interaction: Thriving Communities","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122113878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using ultrasonic sensors, it continuously measures its distance from surrounding objects. It routinely generates and utters words. If anything is close to the object, it speaks repelling. words such as \"No!\" or \"Keep the distance!\". Otherwise, it says inviting words: \"Yes!\", \"Come closer!\". The object tries to attract visitors, but also to keep them at a distance, which theoretically results in a circle. By using natural language, it claims existence in social space and may evoke emotional reactions such as care, empathy, disrespect or irritation. Being a communicative centre, it also initiates social contact and exchange. Distance and closeness are fundamental parameters of social relations and are occasionally associated with ambivalent desires. The digital object mimics such issues in a binary and asymmetric way, tragically providing no interface for negotiation, complexity or modification beyond compliance.","PeriodicalId":186364,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second African Conference for Human Computer Interaction: Thriving Communities","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125497804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most young people are reluctant to seek help from mental health services. The objective of the research project is to develop an online tool that facilitates help-seeking for young people. It is intended that the tool will provide a positive experience and make it easier for young people to find suitable support relative to their need. This tool will combine self-ratings and intelligent techniques to help identify difficulties and recommend appropriate next steps from four levels of stepped care: self-help (e.g. online resources); phone service (e.g. helplines); community/voluntary support; or a relevant medical service. In order to develop this tool, the design process will be informed by the Centre for eHealth Research Roadmap (CeHRes Roadmap). User-centered design methods will be incorporated into every phase of development to ensure that the tool meets the needs of young people.","PeriodicalId":186364,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second African Conference for Human Computer Interaction: Thriving Communities","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125650587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, merely speaking to a smart phone to make a call or send a text. The new challenge of persuading users to change behavior such as low adoption of these technologies has emerged, because little effort is required to use them, but users know little or nothing about how they function. Trust is a key concept to study, as it can mitigate the presently discussed risk and uncertainty associated with present and future technologies. In addition to trust, emotion is also a key indicator for persuading users to changing behavior toward technical artifact. Therefore, this research focuses on unraveling the interplay between emotion and trust of users when interacting with human-like technologies. The contribution of this research is the development of conceptual mapping of various emotional affect and trust in technology, using psychometric and physiological evidences. This can further the understanding of persuasive application development by taking not just trust factors into account or emotional factors alone, but the relationship between these two indicators","PeriodicalId":186364,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second African Conference for Human Computer Interaction: Thriving Communities","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121493852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
