A system theoretical approach is used to describe the change from a traditional producer-distributor-wholesaler relationship to a new extended enterprise. The phases of the change as well as the most important factors are described. As a case study, the paper concentrates on modelling the large change process in one of the largest Finnish food supply chains. The change influences the producer and the constituencies of the food producer (about 25 companies, up to 700 people) and forces them to create a new networked consortium, an extended enterprise that has to be virtually managed by the participants.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"2008 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125601162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Organisations involved in such endeavours have to exchange business information and have to have the same understanding of the meaning of the exchanged information and to trust both the communication itself and the validity of its contents. This paper reports on the European INTEROP Network of Excellence concerned with interoperability research for networked enterprises applications and software, its goals, rationale and first results. The different activities of the INTEROP network to solve problems of research fragmentation in this domain are identified. The current status in relevant standardisation is presented as well.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124212205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing strategic management concepts often do not correspond to the needs and requirements that SMEs have, leading to unsatisfactory or even counterproductive results. Within this paper, a set of alternate strategic management tools is presented, taking into account the recent economic trends as well as the SMEs' particular characteristics. These tools were designed to help entrepreneurs tackle various strategic issues in strategic planning sessions. Each tool is based on the use of graphical strategy templates, making strategy content and process more efficient and comprehensive, thus leading to decisions of higher quality.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116828017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Internet and mobile technologies are enablers that support the change of traditional industrial processes, flexibility in organizations and the increasing role of services with the products. These developments are examples on how mobile technology diffusion changes industrial processes. The mobile diffusion proceeds through changes in knowledge, methods, tools and services. The resulting educational question is: Which are the competences needed to support this development form Mobile Enterprises. To solve the resulting coordination problem companies tend to embed their innovation activities into networks and thereby attend to collective innovation processes. Under these conditions innovation processes become collective learning processes. Learning results on the individual, the company and the technology level are produced. The network partners have to learn collectively, unlearn established routines and learn from mistakes. To enable collective learning regular direct interaction is necessary. Most of the integrated knowledge is tacit and hardly transferable without direct interaction. Common institutions result of regular direct interaction and are indispensable for coordination. It becomes clear that collective learning capacity will increasingly determine competitive advantage. This leads to an indispensable redefinition of Innovation Management models.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114585907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional model of aircraft doesn't validate the information stored in the knowledge base. There are some works on constraints net now, but the algorithm and the procedure is very complicated. There is not a constraint description language and a general way to represent the constraints on model. In this paper, we build an aircraft product model based on knowledge base in the concurrent engineering way. We use the PAL (Protégé Axiom Language) and our extended Java code to describe the constraints and construct a constraint net. The knowledge base model with constraint net describe product itself with more accuracy than traditional model. The aim of this research is reducing the time and cost to improve efficiency of aircraft product innovation.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"31 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115048855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

That have to support the collaborative creation, management, dissemination, and use of product definition information across the extended enterprise from concept to end of life - integrating people, processes, business systems, and information. A drawback is that today's PDM systems are focussed on mechanical engineering. There is however an increasing need e.g. from aerospace industry for an extended PDM schema to cover systems engineering product aspects. STEP ISO 10303 - AP233 provides an appropriate approach for integrating systems engineering needs into PDM systems, specifically future modularised STEP ISO 10303 application protocols will allow to construct the required PDM schema extensions at reduced customisation effort. A framework for a systems engineering PDM system is proposed and data exchange aspects discussed. A demonstrator for the proposed solution was built using AP233 interfaces for systems engineering CASE tools coupled to an appropriate PDM system.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114443608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have been investigating the evolution of businesses in the secondary software industry in two phases, first by developing a framework to analyse the change of host industries from closed and vertical to open and horizontal especially in terms of software products. Secondly, we have studied a set of selected industries in a pivotal era called the momentum of concurrent enterprising in this paper. The key finding is: the value creation is moving towards service offerings - which are product-based, but so that products are designed and built by the other network parties. For the OEM company it is thus essential to estimate how the market opening process will affect the success of its emerging service businesses, including the role of software products in this process.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117258774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
