Grid technologies facilitate dynamic and distributed work environments for such project-based work scenarios because Grid technologies provide the ability to dynamically create and manage service instances, and perform resource management in multi-organization environments. We propose the virtual studio lab for project based work scenarios. A virtual studio aggregates required tools provided by a Grid on demand for the duration of a project facilitating creation and control of a cooperative work environment. A virtual studio lab manager is responsible for requesting resource allocation, creation of grid service instances and control of service instances composing an on demand virtual studios and laboratories. We have implemented a prototype and are experimenting on two scenarios: a film production project and an Internet application development project.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117022858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As hundreds of suppliers' assessments are performed every year by OEMs' product development departments, the need for highly effective information management has never been more important. Management and analysis of this data might be seen as an unnecessary task when suppliers perform under specification, but the introduction of a new product brings complexity and variety to parts and processes. By using modern data technologies and statistical software, suppliers' data can be analysed to predict their performance and warranty claims. The company analysed developed a Supplier Component Status Report (SCSR) together with an automated data capture system to be able to obtain more accurate and timely information.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122261975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the distributed and heterogeneous characteristics of innovation information, it is difficult to implement a satisfying and cost effective innovation management system for the extended enterprise. However, the development of semantic web technologies brings a new way to solve this problem. In this paper, a framework for a Semantic Innovation Management System (SIMS) based on metadata harvesting technologies and RDF access technologies is presented. A practical case study developed using RDF Gateway is also presented. Our work demonstrates the feasibility and potential to adopt semantic web technologies to improve innovation management across extended enterprises.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"203 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126034423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main business aim is to produce a leap forward in industrial design performance in SMEs. Knowledge useful to design engineers comes in many forms and useful knowledge can come from many sources inside and outside the SME. A common need amongst SMEs is to be able to acquire and process this knowledge so that a greater, richer, centralised source of knowledge and information is available to produce better designs, faster, with greater innovation, and with less re-inventing of the wheel. The most important needs of SMEs with regard to design are to get good products to the marketplace quicker, and to reduce costs related to design. ASSIST is a unique agent-based knowledge management approach meeting these needs.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132285338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The combination of complementary core-competencies in a framework for collaborative business provides effective conditions to cope with the related challenges. In addition to the complexity of products and services, the specific complexity of collaboration processes highlights the need of approaches to handle those complex management processes. Research provides findings about structures and challenges of collaborative business as well as about the means and approaches of complexity management. But up to now there is still no accepted concept to assess the effectiveness of various means of complexity management in different scenarios of collaborative business. This paper gives an introduction to the specific challenges in managing complexity of collaboration in the special case of virtual organisations and describes the need for measuring the effects of complexity as an important component of this management.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130537643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
