Cooperation in mostly heterogeneous environments needs to address diverse processes, disparate ICT systems and un-normalized communication structures. This burden of cooperation conditions heavily plug-and-play participation of companies into multiple VOs. Interoperability is key to address those deficiencies if enabling integration while keeping as far as possible local procedures and decentralized decision making. Therefore Models need to be developed to address those needs as well as supporting ICT infrastructures. To master complexity and dynamic behaviour of Virtual Organisations, a new model is introduced and demonstrated using the example of Supply Networks within the Automotive Industry. The proposed methodology is based on three basic design elements: superposition of Supply Chains (equated to supply networks), recursive modelling of processes and a web service oriented infrastructure.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123163553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Companies are responsible to provide appropriate training especially in sensitive and critical areas such as risk assessment and management; unfortunately many consider, risk analysis training to be expensive, costly and time consuming. VICARIA allows flexibility in training time, it is cost-effective i.e. reduced travel and subsistence expenses, it enables managers to attend and assist in courses, allowing them to judge the relevancy and quality of training provided and also VICARIA offers specialised and the latest knowledge in the specific field of risk analysis. This system includes accessibility, interoperability, durability and re-usability aspects and uses open standards with respect to platform and content. English, French and Greek are the languages used.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115198110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous writings on knowledge, information, creativity, etc have been dominated by definitional discussions, prescriptive models, and debates about the social basis of knowledge, etc. A large proportion of research has focused on technological means, in particular ICT, to provide the means for sharing information - in the hope to promote knowledge and knowledge creation. The seminal work of Takeuchi & Nonaka (1995) introduced the notion of explicit and implicit knowledge, coupled with the SECI cycle, in which implicit knowledge embodied within an individual is made explicit and socialized into the organization. The investigation reported here develops and applies a new methodology for the investigation of the activities of new product development teams to develop an in-depth understanding of the knowledge creation process. A model of this process is presented and fully described with examples taken from an empirical study.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"47 19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129974215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is evident that only positive cost-benefit ratios will keep individual companies in the network. At the same time the management of the network has to make sure that every member company makes a certain contribution to the development and growth of the network. For these purposes it is necessary to measure any kind of network perfonnance into concrete numbers which are measurable. As found in our literature research, controlling within network organizations it a relatively new subject and not many researches are done in this field yet. In our presented case study we develop, implement and analyze a \"Network Controlling System (NCS)\" in cooperation with the \"Virtuelle Fabrik NordwestschweizlMittelland\", a virtual enterprise of 25 companies in the area of mechatronics in the Northwest Region of Switzerland.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123793954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, SMEs are encountering many uncertainties and challenges in these new e-Business relationships. Trust building is strategically important for them to enter, develop and maintain e-Business relationships. This paper presents part of the research work on trust building for SMEs undertaken in the SEEMseed project (Study, Evaluate, and Explore in the Domain of the Single Electronic European Market). By investigating the general trust building mechanisms in business networks, inter-organizational relationships, e-Business, and among SMEs, this study develops a conceptual model for trust building in the SEEM (Single Electronic European Market), which forms a baseline for the trust building study in the SEEMseed project. Some of the initial findings of this study regarding the risks facing SMEs for trust building in the SEEM are also presented.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126356288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, companies try to optimize their system development process. Concurrent Engineering is one approach to accelerate the system development process. To achieve this acceleration, new methods have to be introduced into the company and the existing process and organisation have to be adapted. However, there is a lack of support for designing the actual method introduction. This paper aims to close that gap by providing an assessment approach for evaluating different introduction procedures with respect to duration, cost and quality. This assessment system is developed from two sides: First, axioms of the method introduction are determined, which describe a good introduction procedure. Second, a goal system is developed, which finally is combined with the axioms. This assessment system supports the selection of an introduction procedure that protects resources and yields the greatest benefits for the company.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"273 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131690415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The business literature makes a clear distinction between goods and services, based on intangibility, heterogeneity, simultaneous production and consumption, and imperishability of services. All businesses, however, seem to be service businesses to some extent. The objective of this paper is to find a new model to analyze different types of commodities. The bases of the new Commodity Characteristics Model (CCM) are the eight recognized characteristics of goods and services, combined with the phase structure of real-life processes. This model has the advantage of breaking free from prejudices concerning goods and services. OEM companies, for instance, are willing to become solution providers by developing new services, with a variety of opinions concerning what those services actually are. These new service activities could be analyzed by a comprehensive, yet interpretive, model, case by case.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129341118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first part of this poster proposes to clarify the definition of the VC concept by introducing the new concept of VC developed by ECOLEAD, called Professional Virtual Communities (PVC). Based on PVC's features defined by ECOLEAD, the second part of the poster develops an analysis on how virtual interactions can occur in co-located or distant networks of firms. As a result of this analysis, the PVC has to respect conditions to exist and also to be successful in both co-located and distant networks. The third part of the poster shows under which conditions PVC can succeed and be driving forces for networks of firms.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124128083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, because designers have their own knowledge, expertise and insight, reaching a shared point of view from multiple and not necessarily coherent ones is difficult and often leads to conflicts during the design stage. To address this problem, we describe a new methodology for modelling the conflict management process and its implementation in a Web-based multi-agent system for advanced concurrent design and manufacturing with emphasize on the concept of “cognitive synchronisation” and “design rational” for building a shared point of view and thus reaching a “satisfying” solution.","PeriodicalId":186243,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"516 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116538653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
