Based on these interactions, living systems such as animals, plants, and microorganisms maintain complex regulatory and metabolic interaction networks that in concert form the processes of life. The development of molecular modeling tools for understanding molecular interactions has been used extensively. However, elucidation of the mechanism of molecular interaction between nanosystems like proteins is quite complex. Feedback from the current results plays a role in increasing the complexity of such interactions. Such feedback loops demonstrate the need for creating novel computational model for complex phenomena like protein-protein interactions. Experimental measurements of protein interactions involve averaging over an ensemble of molecules. However, theoretical and computational models typically predict conformations of a peptide or protein on the basis of a single, isolated molecule in a box of solvent. In the present study, we have developed a simulation system consisting of ensemble of peptides (as shown below, a two peptide system). The dynamic effects on peptide structure in this simulation system are compared with the isolated single peptide simulation. The results clearly suggest that it is more appropriate to consider peptides in an ensemble during MD simulations. While the single peptide simulations consider the intramolecular interactions, it completely ignores the vital intermolecular interactions between two peptides molecules.","PeriodicalId":185824,"journal":{"name":"2005 International Conference on MEMS,NANO and Smart Systems","volume":"443 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115165633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ground plane membranes are implemented to control local substrate effective dielectric constant and so microstrip device capacitance. Continuous control of transmission line phase shift or antenna resonant frequency is demonstrated. In phase shifter implementation, a figure of merit of over 700/spl deg/ phase shift/dB signal power loss has been achieved. In MPA implementation, a MPA was continuously swept from 16.8 GHz to 17.82 GHz (6% variation). Additionally, while MEM switch devices are limited in power handling capability, the presented device is not so limited.","PeriodicalId":185824,"journal":{"name":"2005 International Conference on MEMS,NANO and Smart Systems","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115492988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To gain a comprehensive insight into superhydrophobic behavior, the roles of pillar height, width and spacing (or roughness and solid fraction), intrinsic CA, drop size, and vibrational energy as well as fractal structure and formation of liquid films are systematically investigated. Solid surface fraction is shown by f. Free energy (FE) and free energy barrier (FEB) are calculated using a simple and robust 2D model. Based on the calculations of FE and FEB, various CAs, including apparent, equilibrium (stable), advancing and receding CAs, and CA hysteresis (CAH) can be determined. Especially, the design of practical surephydrophobic surfaces is emphasized in connection with the transition between noncomposite and composite states; a criterion for judging such transition is proposed. The theoretical results are consistent with Wenzel's and Cassie's equations and experimental observations. Furthermore, based on these results and the proposed criterion, some general principles to achieve superhydrophobic performance are suggested.","PeriodicalId":185824,"journal":{"name":"2005 International Conference on MEMS,NANO and Smart Systems","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115573504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the purposes of modeling asperity friction, experiments have shown, and been supported through detailed finite element analyses, that frictional forces developed through tangential sliding scale linearly through a material parameter known as the junction strength. A junction strength model coupled with a discrete quasi-static contact mechanics analysis, using contacting surface descriptions sampled by AFM from actual polysilicon surfaces, predicts inelastic tangential displacements that are qualitatively consistent with observed PSTD response. The simulations imply that the existence of PSTD depends not only on the spatial characteristics of contacting surfaces, but also on the local loading characteristics.","PeriodicalId":185824,"journal":{"name":"2005 International Conference on MEMS,NANO and Smart Systems","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121871771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
