In this study, we aimed to evaluate the changes caused by covid-19 pandemic on the patient profiles and visiting reasons between the pre-pandemic and pandemic same periods. The data of the patients who had visited the ENT policlinics between 01.09.2020-31.12.2020 and the pre-pandemic same period (01.09.2019-31.12.2019) is collected from the automation system of our hospital and evaluated retrospectively. The number of incoming patients to ENT policlinics had decreased by 55.38% in 2020 when compared to the same period in 2019. The percentage of patients with facial paralysis is seen to increase in 2020. Both the percentage and number of patients with upper respiratory tract infections other than covid-19 and pediatric tonsillitis and adenoiditis are seen to decrease in 2020. However, it is observed that the patient incomings with upper respiratory tract infections other than the covid-19 and pediatric tonsillitis and adenoiditis are decreased because of the precautions taken to prevent the spread of the covid-19 infection, this decrease in patient incomings to the hospital is thought to have adverse effects on the diagnose and treatment of many other diseases.","PeriodicalId":18541,"journal":{"name":"Medicine Science | International Medical Journal","volume":"165 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72875655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We retrospectively evaluated 139 patients with ASA (American Society of Anesthesiology) physical status 1 and 2 who underwent bimaxillary surgery. Data were collected on demographic characteristics, ASA physical status, mallampati scores, systemic diseases, allergy history, consultation request status, consulted departments, smoking, alcohol or drug use, and previous exposure to general anaesthesia. The preoperative evaluation of bimaxillary surgery patients revealed several notable findings, including a relatively high rate of cardiovascular problems (48% rate among those with additional systemic disease), the need for otolaryngology (ENT) consultation being the most frequent (44% rate among all consultations), and a relatively high rate of active smoking (23.7%). Our findings suggest that the bimaxillary surgery patient group should be carefully evaluated, particularly regarding cardiovascular disease and difficult airway management","PeriodicalId":18541,"journal":{"name":"Medicine Science | International Medical Journal","volume":"147 Pt 4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84065617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of non-physician healthcare professionals about breast cancer screening programs. This study was planned as a cross-sectional survey study, nurses and female non-physician hospital staff from different professions were included. In addition to primary demographic data, various questions were asked to the participants to evaluate their knowledge about breast cancer screening programs and compliance with breast cancer screening programs, and then the data were analyzed. A total of 332 volunteers were included in our study. 317 (95.5%) of them stated that they had heard of the Cancer Early Diagnosis, Screening, and Education Centers (KETEM) before. When asked whether cancer screenings were essential, 327 (98.5%) of the volunteers answered “Yes,” considering it is essential, and thus it was thought that non-physician healthcare professionals had a high awareness of this issue. Fifty (15.1%) of the non-physician healthcare professionals stated that they regularly performed breast self-exams once a month, 83 (25.0%) did not do any breast examination, and 154 (46.4%) did it sporadically. Of the population, 66 people were 40 years and older. In this population, 33 (50.0%) of the participants answered “Yes” to the question “Have you ever had a mammogram?”; whereas 33 (50.0%) of them answered “No.” In general, the awareness of the participants was high, but it was thought that their level of knowledge about breast cancer screening was insufficient. In addition, it was observed that the compliance rates to cancer screening programs were insufficient. Therefore, an absolute effort should be made to increase the knowledge and awareness of health professionals who play an essential role in public health.","PeriodicalId":18541,"journal":{"name":"Medicine Science | International Medical Journal","volume":"23 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91401773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We aimed to investigate the relationship between serum asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and copeptin levels and MACE in those who started on imminent DAPT and PPI therapy after PCI. 90 patients with ACS were included in this prospective observational study and divided into three groups lansoprazole (n=30), rabeprazole (n=31), and pantoprazole (n=29). The serum ADMA and copeptin levels were examined at the time of diagnosis, at the end of 1st and 6th month. MACE was defined as mortality, recurrent AMI (acute myocardial infarction), and CST (coronary stent thrombosis) development after PCI. MACE developed in two patients in the first month and eight patients (8.9%) after six months of follow-up. At six months, CST was seen in only two patients (2.2%). At the first-month evaluation, while a significant increase was observed in serum ADMA levels at the time of admission (p<0.001), the copeptin levels decreased significantly in all patients (p<0.001). In the 6th month, the serum ADMA and copeptin levels significantly increased compared to the time of admission and 1st-month evaluation in all groups (p<0.001). PPIs might significantly influence serum ADMA and copeptin levels in patients undergoing coronary stenting due to ACS. Nevertheless, we did not notice clinical extrapolation of the potential effects.","PeriodicalId":18541,"journal":{"name":"Medicine Science | International Medical Journal","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90906665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample of the study consisted of 40 consecutive patients who underwent thyroidectomy surgery. After obtaining the necessary permissions from the ethics committee, patients, and the chief physician of the medical faculty hospital, the research was conducted. Research data were collected using the patient diagnosis form, the form for assessing patients; vital signs, the form in which the laboratory values of the patients are determined, and the wound site evaluation form of patients three days after surgery. As a result of the research, it was determined that heart rate, body temperature, and HbA1c value may be affected as the fasting period gets longer. In surgeries performed in other patient groups and in patients with a higher population of thyroid surgery, it was suggested that new research should be done to examine the effect of fasting duration on vital signs, wound site, and blood laboratory values.","PeriodicalId":18541,"journal":{"name":"Medicine Science | International Medical Journal","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90639204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thirty-six Long-Evans pigmented rats were utilized in this paper. Bursting lesions are performed on the retina of one eye in each animal to induce choroidal neovascularization (CNV) by argon laser. The animals were separated into 3 groups of 36 rats. Twelve animals in each group and one eye per animal were topically administrated daily for 5 weeks at 0.3%, 0.5% tacrolimus, and saline respectively. Fluorescein angiography (FA) was performed in groups 1, 2, and 3 (control group) in the 3rd week, 4th week, and 5th week after the initial retinal photocoagulation. FA is graded for each of the three lesions as follows: score 0: no leakage, score 1: slight leakage, score 2: moderately leakage, and score 3: strong leakage. At the end of the study, the eyes were enucleated and prepared for histological examination. According to fluorescein angiography (FA) score comparisons, in group 1 (topical 0.3 % Tacrolimus) there was only a significant difference between its controls at the 5th week after retinal photocoagulation (p=0.05). In group 2 (topical 0.5 % Tacrolimus) there was a significant difference when compared to control eyes in the 4th week and the 5th week (p=0.018, p=0.021). Topical instillation of tacrolimus at a concentration of 0.5% following the laser photocoagulation significantly reduced leakage of CNV versus controls in the 4th and the 5th weeks, the time points tested. Tacrolimus at a concentration of 0.3 % significantly reduced CNV only 5 weeks after retinal photocoagulation. These results show that there is a dose-response of topical tacrolimus on the suppression of CNV. Tacrolimus is a well-penetrating drug through the cornea and following topical administration, can reach effective concentrations depending on application way and dose. This study needs to be performed in other experimental models and then clinical trials.","PeriodicalId":18541,"journal":{"name":"Medicine Science | International Medical Journal","volume":"87 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79938602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Paclitaxel (PCX) is an anticancer agent commonly used in cancer treatment. However, its clinical use is restricted owing to poor water solubility. PCL NPs were investigated to cope with solubility problem of PCX. The size, polydispersity index and zeta potential of PCL were 383.8±2.4 nm, 0.253±0.122 and +51.3±6.1 mV, respectively. The PCX encapsulation efficiency was 77.2±2.1%. Subsequently, in situ gellling system was prepared by using different Pluronic F-127 concentration in order to determine the optimum ratio. İn situ gel formulation containing 20% Pluronic F-127 was selected as the optimum formulation and subjected to characterization tests. The viscosity of in situ gelling system with CS/PCX-PCL NPs at room temperature (25 °C±0.1) and at body temperature (37 °C±0.1) were found 137.00 ±3.05 cP and 890.30 ±89.61 cP at 100 rpm, respectively. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence and possible risk factors of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety in a sample of parents of children with epilepsy. Parents of children with epilepsy who presented to Turgut Ozal Medical Center Pediatric Neurology Outpatient Treatment Unit between January and March 2023 were invited to this cross-sectional study. Participants filled out a questionnaire examining demographic variables. Depression and anxiety levels were evaluated with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD-S), and post-traumatic stress levels were evaluated with the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder short scale (PTSD-short scale). A total of 89 parents, including 47 mothers, and 42 fathers, participated in the study. Of the study participants, 10.11% were at risk for depression and 3.4% for anxiety disorder. 6.7% had PTSD. There was a positive correlation between HAD-S subscale scores and PTSD-short scale scores. According to the linear regression model, PTSD was negatively correlated with having a job and education level, and positively correlated with anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression were only associated with PTSD. Parents of epileptic children are at risk for PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Clinicians need to identify at-risk parents at an early stage and develop specific assist-oriented intervention programs to provide systematic support.","PeriodicalId":18541,"journal":{"name":"Medicine Science | International Medical Journal","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88551778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
