The alpha waves and theta waves are very much related to the relaxation and concentration respectively. By using data segmentation and linear regression techniques, power changes in alpha band and theta band are plotted. It is revealed that the alpha band relative power values reduced when the IQ test session is held and it is found that the Index 6 from the IQ group produced highest response of alpha and theta mean power comparing to other IQ Indexes. It is shown that the relative power segmentation techniques in conjunction with linear regression are able to shows significant dissimilarity among the IQ Index group by relating relaxation and IQ test experiments.","PeriodicalId":183006,"journal":{"name":"2010 2nd International Congress on Engineering Education","volume":"396 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126753495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In education, IT and knowledge outsourcing have been widely used in the last decade. However, there are also risks involved in ITO. An important risk that must to be considered is the knowledge transfer during the ITO activities. The biggest value of knowledge can be achieved in an organization or university when it is shared, as it can help to increase job performance and facilitate new knowledge creation. The aims of this paper are to 1) provide an overview of ITO in institution of higher education, 2) identify factors influencing knowledge transfer in ITO and 3) present a knowledge transfer model for ITO in Malaysia. The findings of the research presented herewith showed that the quality content and accuracy of knowledge to be transferred, distribution capacity of knowledge provider (KP), knowledge receiver's (KR) perceived benefit and knowledge infrastructures or enablers, ICT infrastructure, staff posting, trust and job satisfaction were perceived as important in determining the success of knowledge transfer during an ITO. Through the findings, a model of knowledge transfer in ITO was developed.","PeriodicalId":183006,"journal":{"name":"2010 2nd International Congress on Engineering Education","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131724911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although constant implementation of various approaches are made to enhance students' oral competency in English, these conventional teaching methods merely ‘throws’ a problem for students to discuss. As a result, students participate in speaking programmes just to perform well in exams. In this study, efforts are made to look at the significance of incorporating Six Thinking Hats (STH) in Problem Based Learning (PBL) as the means of getting students to talk on matters that they feel strongly about. Through PBL, students are urged to explore and talk on a shared problem prevalent in their own study environment. STH is used to encourage engineering students to discuss from various perspectives. The aims of this research are to determine how STH through PBL i) assists students in developing better speaking skills and ii) improves students' participation performance in inter-group discussions. The subjects involved 79 electrical engineering undergraduates. The t-test findings from the survey favoured the use of STH approach. Students perceived this learning process to be interesting and engaging. They felt more ‘involved’ to speak on their own problem from different perspectives.","PeriodicalId":183006,"journal":{"name":"2010 2nd International Congress on Engineering Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131748947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Active learning, wherein the learners are involved in and engaged with the content to be studied is imperative for such an enhanced teaching-learning process. In this context, the role of the teacher changes to that of a ‘facilitator’, wherein he/she facilitates the process by which the learner acquires knowledge. Facilitation skills hence become the crucial aspect in the active learning paradigm. This paper brings out the key elements of such a facilitation process, specifically in the context of engineering education. The discussions presented here are a result of study and observations through several Mission10X workshops conducted in different engineering colleges across INDIA.","PeriodicalId":183006,"journal":{"name":"2010 2nd International Congress on Engineering Education","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130113519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The asynchronous paradigm has become an interesting alternative. Unfortunately, the topic of asynchronous circuits has been ignored in most university courses. An important step in the synthesis of asynchronous controllers is the logic minimization. Several algorithms were proposed, some of them are not available to students and usually they are complex to apply manually. In this paper we propose a simple method to perform logic minimization starting from XBM controllers. The simplicity of the method and its optimization capacity permit the students to apply it manually in any moment of a digital basic course.","PeriodicalId":183006,"journal":{"name":"2010 2nd International Congress on Engineering Education","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122871293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As global competitive pressure increases and product life cycles compress, companies are trying to shorten product development cycles by communication and coordination. On the other hand, E-collaboration and collaborative systems bring geographically dispersed teams together, supporting communication, coordination and cooperation. This paper presents a review of research in the area of new product development by E-collaboration through project management approach in SMEs. By investigation in previous literature, we reviewed and present an operational definition of the term project management, and a historical review of the development of E-collaboration. That is followed by an introductory SMEs and new product.","PeriodicalId":183006,"journal":{"name":"2010 2nd International Congress on Engineering Education","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129680571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
