We consider personal user information as contextual information used for our recommendations. The evaluation of our recommendation approach was performed on a social network of students. The obtained results do show a significant increase in performance while, at the same time, a slight increase in quality in comparison to a manual matching process. The proposed approach is flexible enough to handle different data types of contextual information and easy adaptable to other recommendation domains.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"760 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123191384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To meet such traffic demands, Base Station (BS) densification through small cells are deployed. However, BSs are costly and consume over half of the cellular network energy. Meanwhile, Cloud Radio Access Networks (C-RAN) has been proposed as an energy efficient architecture that leverage cloud computing technology where baseband processing is performed in the cloud. With such an arrangement, more energy gains can be acquired through statistical multiplexing by reducing the number of BBUs used. This paper proposes a green Intelligent Traffic and Resource Elastic Energy (iTREE) scheme for C-RAN. In iTREE, BBUs are reduced by matching the right amount of baseband processing with traffic load. This is a bin packing problem where items (BS aggregate traffic) are to be packed into bins (BBUs) such that the number of bins used are minimized. Idle BBUs can then be switched off to save energy. Simulation results show that iTREE can reduce BBUs by up to 97% during off peak and 66% at peak times with RAN power reductions of up to 27% and 18% respectively compared with conventional deployments.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115686133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, more and more large organizations intend to reduce their energy consumption. Often, their plans cannot be realized due to missing insights into the causes energy consumption. Centralized energy meters provide no information at which appliances the energy is spent and the installation of thousands of distributed meters is often not feasible from an economic point of view. To simplify the energy metering in large scale, we propose to make Internet of Things (IoT) appliances aware of their own electricity consumption using on software based virtual energy sensors. We demonstrate how to automatically generate those energy models for nearly arbitrary networked devices with a high accuracy. Our purely software based energy metering solution approximates the energy consumption of common office equipment with an error between 2.19% and 10.8%. Using our approach, IoT appliances become aware of their own energy expenditure. This greatly simplifies energy metering on device level granularity, giving appropriate user feedback and developing more energy-efficient appliances. All these benefits are achieved without the need for installing additional hardware sensors.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123626109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, there are very few technological resources to help locate lost objects. This paper discusses a multi-platform mobile application that provides a solution to this issue. Lost and found mobile application helps people report lost and found objects through their mobile phones rather than going through the procedure of filling up forms. In addition, it has a backend server that runs an algorithm for object matching using Speeded Up Robust Features (SURF) to match images of lost items with that of found items. The application has three versions: General, Elderly, and Organization. The paper presents the results obtained by implementing the proposed mobile application, as well as the accuracy and performance obtained by testing the image matching algorithm on a set of images representing lost and found objects. Collected results show the robust features of SURF algorithm, as well as its invariance to rotation, which often occurs when taking photographs by mobile phones.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"385 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121339591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multiple solutions have been proposed using service and agent paradigms, which consequently impose a specific application development model. We observe a trend towards a data-feeder approach in which smart objects are simple data gatherers and senders. This approach reduces the autonomy of smart objects and brings privacy concerns about the data and service manipulation by remote applications and services. We propose a new approach for middleware and application development for smart objects based on Web agents and services. Specifically, we integrate services as part of activities included in roles of a web agent allowing us to keep control of the service and data generated on-object, in contrast to delegating to remote applications or services. In addition, our P2P-inspired method for service discovery gives autonomy to smart objects since a central directory is not required to interact with others. We completed an initial implementation of our architecture and demonstrated its feasibility in a case study in the smart home domain.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126630901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, little research has been performed on the stability of the resulting bottom-up infrastructure. In this work, the BGP behaviour of community networks is empirically studied by evaluating dumps of BGP messages from the AWMN and Guifi community networks and comparing the results to data from the public Internet. The preliminary results show that community networks are significantly less stable, although the public Internet shows a significantly higher ratio of update messages over withdrawal messages.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"194 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125725961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering economic benefits offered by this paradigm, organisations could outsource data storage and computational services. However, data in the cloud environment is within easy reach of service providers. One of the strong obstacles in widespread adoption of the cloud is to preserve confidentiality of the data. Generally, confidentiality of the data could be guaranteed by employing existing encryption schemes. For regulating access to the data, organisations require access control mechanisms. Unfortunately, access policies in clear text might leak information about the data they aim to protect. The major research challenge is to enforce dynamic access policies at runtime, i.e., Enforcement of dynamic security constraints (including dynamic separation of duties and Chinese wall) in the cloud. The main challenge lies in the fact that dynamic security constraints require notion of sessions for managing access histories that might leak information about the sensitive data if they are available as clear text in the cloud. In this paper, we present E-GRANT: an architecture able to enforce dynamic security constraints without relying on a trusted infrastructure, which can be deployed as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). In E-GRANT, sessions' access histories are encrypted in such a way that enforcement of constraints is still possible. As a proof-of-concept, we have implemented a prototype and provide a preliminary performance analysis showing a limited overhead, thus confirming the feasibility of our approach.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125800301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose to reuse as much tooling as possible, taking into account suitable options with regard to infrastructure management, then piggybacking as much advanced functionalities as possible in such kind of environment. In this sense, a widely used and competitive framework for Infrastructure-as-a-Service such as OpenStack, with its breadth in terms of feature coverage and expanded scope, looks like fitting the bill. This work therefore describes the approach and the solutions so far preliminary implemented for enabling Cloud-mediated interactions with droves of sensor- and actuator-hosting nodes by proposing Stack4Things, a framework for Sensing-and-Actuation-as-a-Service. In particular, we focused on describing the subsystem of Stack4Things devoted to resource control and management, highlighting relevant requirements and justifying how our proposed framework addresses them, while also opening up possibilities for a range of future extensions towards complete fulfillment of the Sensing-and-Actuation-as-a-Service vision.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127352621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The IoT paradigm is an emerging area that comes with a number of challenges that requires rethinking of how conventional communication and computational mechanisms can be adapted for this new model where the Internet does not only connect end users but also physical entities, also known as smart devices. While the low power networks provide energy optimised solution for Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications and interaction between the smart entities, there are also some concerns around the conventional video encoding and streaming mechanisms suitability in such networks. In this paper we review widely adopted video encoders such as MPEG and H.264 and assess their suitability for the low power networks within different video streaming scenarios. In previous work we considered video steaming in low power networks related challenges and elicited a number of possible recommendations based on specific requirements associated with IoT. In this paper we present a discussion of applications where video streaming in IoT low power networks will play an important part, thus highlighting the need for adequate mechanisms to facilitate the deployment of these applications. Also, we present further discussions on the previously identified issues and provide some evaluation results assessing the viability of our recommendations. Furthermore, we discuss how the high error rate associated with wireless communications channels, combined with the low power networked resources, dictate different requirements and solutions for achieving acceptable quality of service.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125629035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To increase the recovery of data from encrypted image, RS codes are used to encode messages, and then the code words can be embedded into encrypted image according to encryption key. After receiving embedding the code words, the receiver firstly decrypts the encrypted image using the encryption key and get metric about code words containing messages. According to recovery capability of RS codes, better estimation of message is done in data hiding system. Simulation results about two images and two RS codes show that the performances of the proposed schemes are better than ones of the reference scheme.","PeriodicalId":182204,"journal":{"name":"2015 3rd International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115033480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
