Herpes zoster usually characterized by skin eruptions and pain in specific dermatomes [1]. About 50% of lesions of herpes zoster in United States occur elderly patients. The highest incidence of disease is 7th decade of life [2]. Herpes zoster symptoms can mimic sciatalgia or weakness related to spine root compression [1]. A 67-year-old woman admitted with a history of diabetes mellitus and hypertension, presented to emergency department right thigh pain for three days. On examination, patient was afebrile, with stable vital signs. There was a characteristic vesicular rash on the right thigh and also hyperesthesia noted over the right thigh (Figure 1). Any motor deficit was detected in the patient. Any laboratory abnormalities were detected in the patient. The patient was discharged from emergency room after prescribing nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug and oral valacyclovir. Herpes zoster infections are commonly seen in the community. The complications of this infection may vary. We presented in herein a patient mimicking sciatalgia.","PeriodicalId":18057,"journal":{"name":"LOJ Medical Sciences","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89379004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

[1] reported about the echocardiographic and pathological findings in 9 fetuses with left ventricular hyper trabeculation/non-compaction (LVHT). We have the following comments and concerns. The authors differentiate between non-compaction cardiomyopathy (NCCM) and left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC). In our view these are two different terms which describe the same entity. Which is the difference between NCCM and LVNC in the authors’ view? Absence of additional cardiac abnormalities should not be a differentiating criterion.","PeriodicalId":18057,"journal":{"name":"LOJ Medical Sciences","volume":"71 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84145485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Exposure to sexually explicit stimuli helps to create this problem. The advent of broadband internet has made this type of material more available than ever before Hall [2]. Pair this alongside other factors that contribute to the development of sexual addiction; childhood abuse and trauma, difficulties in formulating attachments and lack of coping skills and one can see the ease at which this problem can spread. Although the DSM-V has not yet recognized this as an actual disorder, nor included a workable diagnosis, it does appear to be a growing problem. Previous literature by individuals such as; Patrick Carnes and Ariel Goodman has provided us with actual diagnostic criterion that could be utilized to do just that. Evidence supports the fact that the problem does exist and that it is an uncontrollable maladaptive behavior. Our research will help to expand this knowledge by utilizing university students to establish if sexual addiction is presenting within the population we will sample. In determining this we can then move forward with research so as to better understand how and why this may be occurring.","PeriodicalId":18057,"journal":{"name":"LOJ Medical Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87322679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The carrot originated in Asia. Carrots are particularly rich in carotene (pro-vitamin A) and also significant amount of polyphenols. Carrots are also known to have polyphenols and antioxidants. Carrots are consumed either fresh, as a salad crop, or cooked. Large quantities are also processed, either alone or in mixtures with other vegetables, by canning or freezing. Polyphenols are a group of chemical substances found in plants. Polyphenols are naturally present in plants. Polyphenols are not essential nutrients meaning that they are not required by the human body for sustaining life, but they can exert beneficial functions [1]. Fruits and vegetables are sources of polyphenols. Polyphenols play an important role in the prevention of degenerative diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Polyphenols are antioxidants. Antioxidants are the substances that prevent oxidation. Antioxidants, polyphenols and carotenoids, may help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Extraction of molecules from biological materials by conventional techniques, such as simple maceration, is time consuming. The development of modern techniques such as extraction assisted by microwave or extraction assisted by ultrasound. Sonication breaks the cell membranes. It reduces considerably the extraction time and increasing the extract yield. The application of ultrasound disrupts the cell wall structures and accelerates diffusion through membranes; thus, the cell lyses and hence facilitates the release of cell contents. The potential of reducing waste to combat the food security issues are high, as it is estimated that by 50% reduction in current food waste, the world would be saving 1314 trillion kcal per year. This represent a reduction of about 22% of the number of additional calories needed to feed the projected population by 2050. By the year 2100, the global population is expected to increase to 11.2 billion. To feed this projected population and address the food security and the environmental issues, waste reduction and utilization food resources are the important strategies to be developed. The only affected organ in this boy was the heart [1]. We have the following comments and concerns. In the vast majority of the cases noncompaction, also known as left ventricular hypertrabeculation (LVHT), is congenital [2] and LVHT can be detected already prenatally by fetal echocardiography [3]. Which was the reason why LVHT was recognised neither on fetal echocardiography nor on fetal cardiac MRI and not before postnatal echocardiography? Since it is quite unusual that LVHT is missed on echocardiography and cardiac MRI it can be speculated that it developed after the last cardiac imaging at gestation week 32. Were fetal echocardiographies and fetal cardiac MRI reviewed after detection of LVHT on postnatal echocardiography and autopsy?","PeriodicalId":18057,"journal":{"name":"LOJ Medical Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84779936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Last year was the third hottest on record, and 2016 was the hottest ever. And more people are struggling with mental health issues in the US now than any other time in the nation’s history. Superior predatory skills led to the evolutionary triumph of jawed vertebrates. However, the mechanisms by which the vertebrate brain controls predation remain largely unknown. Here, we reveal a critical role for the central nucleus of the amygdala in predatory hunting. Both optogenetic and chemo genetic stimulation of central amygdala of mice elicited predatory-like attacks upon both insect and artificial prey. Coordinated control of cervical and mandibular musculatures, which is necessary for accurately positioning lethal bites on prey, was mediated by a central amygdala projection to the reticular formation in the brainstem.","PeriodicalId":18057,"journal":{"name":"LOJ Medical Sciences","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87470796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research have been proved that 1/3 of agricultural production of world, prized at several billion dollars is ruined by damaging of field and storage insect pests every year. Various toxic, broad-spectrum and synthetic chemicals are used to control pests. Natural ecosystem, human health and our environment can be affected due to excessive use of these harmful chemicals. So now biologically based approaches are developing to control insect pest instead of toxic and synthetic chemicals which are ecofriendly, cost-effective and useful and reliable. There are different types of bio pesticides such as arthropods natural enemies (predators, parasitoids, and parasites), entomopathogens (bacteria, fungi, virus and nematodes), insect hormones and plant derived bio pesticides.","PeriodicalId":18057,"journal":{"name":"LOJ Medical Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80272961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present process, which describes the manufacturing process of Celecoxib, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), has the advantage of scaling up to the industrial level of production. The process uses safe reagents in the process which makes it for industrial scale operations. The yields in the process are high, which makes it a cost-effective process. Formation of isomers are less compared with the all existing process, which makes it effective to make it to the pharmacopoeia grade. Residual solvents play a very important role in the impurity profile of APIs as per the ICH Guidelines ICH Q3C (R4). In this process by carrying out the final step of condensation in the aqueous medium followed by crystallization, the residual solvents limits are well taken care of.","PeriodicalId":18057,"journal":{"name":"LOJ Medical Sciences","volume":"150 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88328184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
