However it suffers from the high computational complexity, thus limiting its practical application. In this paper, a method called Non-Redundant-2q-MUSIC using 2qth order statistics for uniform linear arrays and uniform rectangular arrays is proposed. The proposed method lowers the computational complexity effectively by removing the redundancy of the virtual array and the 2qth-order cumulants matrix. And root-MUSIC can be applied to avoid calculating the pseudo-spectrum. It is illustrated in both theoretical proof and computer simulations that the proposed method performs properly and effectively.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"139 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127594075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast with the existing Generalized Cross Correlation weighting functions that take only the signal's magnitude into account, we introduce a novel fused approach which also makes use of the phase information. In this approach, the phase spectra of the noise-corrupted microphone array signals are restored by an estimate of the sound source's phase information obtained from the noise-suppressed STFT magnitude. The proposed approach can be readily combined with any existing weighting function or Time Delay Estimation algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate the potential of this approach and show that it can improve the acoustic localization in joint noisy and reverberant conditions.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117153682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are two ways to synchronize the air access in wireless systems: unframed (packet based) and framed transmission. Both of them are based on well designed sequences, with a low Peak Average to Power Ratio (PAPR), good low cross-correlation and impulse-like auto-correlation characteristics (e.g., Pseudo Noise (PN) sequence and Constant Amplitude Zero Auto Correlation (CAZAC)). In the present paper we make a comparative study of short and long preambles existing in the literature. Additionally we propose a long preamble, based on a CAZAC sequence weighted by a Golay Rudin Shapiro sequence. The reviewed preambles were evaluated in the Schmidl and Cox timing metric. By simulation in MATLAB we get the Mean Square Error (MSE) of the estimation, and the Bit Error Rate (BER) of transmitted data, in an environment defined by a Rayleigh Fading Channel with Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN), Coarse Timing and Frequency Offset.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120991456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The coordinate descent optimization algorithm is employed with a modified l1- penalized least squares cost function in order to estimate a single parameter and its regularization parameter simultaneously based on the leave one out mean square error (LOOMSE). Our original contribution is to derive a closed form of optimal LOOMSE regularization parameter for a single term model, for which we show that the LOOMSE can be analytically computed without actually splitting the data set leading to a very simple parameter estimation method. We then integrate the new results within the coordinate descent optimization algorithm to update model parameters one at the time for linear-in-the-parameters models. Consequently a fully automated procedure is achieved without resort to any other validation data set for iterative model evaluation. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new approaches.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"25 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127232549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods to address this include the benchmark ICA, SCA, MMCA, and more recently, a dictionary learning based algorithm BMMCA. In this paper, we solve the separation problem by using the recently proposed SimCO optimization framework. Our approach not only allows to unify the two sub-problems emerging in the separation problem, but also mitigates the singularity issue which was reported in the dictionary learning literature. Another unique feature is that only one dictionary is used to sparsely represent the source signals while in the literature typically multiple dictionaries are assumed (one dictionary per source). Numerical experiments are performed and the results show that our scheme significantly improves the performance, especially in terms of the accuracy of the mixing matrix estimation.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116389528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This means a larger array size can be implemented using a relatively small number of antennas. However, careful consideration has to be given to antenna locations to ensure that an acceptable performance level is achieved.Model perturbations can also cause steering vector errors, which in turn cause discrepancies in the array's response and this makes a robust array desirable. This paper presents a design method for robust sparse antenna arrays based on an extension of compressive sensing. An extra constraint is applied to the process to ensure that the change in response due to a norm-bounded steering vector error is kept below an acceptable level. Design examples are presented to validate the effectiveness of the method.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122632683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on a convolutive observation model that relaxes the conditional independence assumption of hidden Markov models, REMOS effectively adapts automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems to noisy and strongly reverberant environments. While uncertainty decoding approaches are typically designed to operate irrespectively of the employed decoding routine of the ASR system, REMOS explicitly considers the additional information provided by the Viterbi decoder. In contrast to previous publications of the REMOS concept, we provide a conclusive derivation of its decoding routine using a Bayesian network representation in order to prove its inherent uncertainty decoding character.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116597414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To allow the transmission of a multiview video over the employed transmission channels, a new data format including texture and the corresponding depth information has been proposed. In this paper we present a novel segmentation-based intra codec for depth maps, utilizing the correlation between depth and color data. Our system performs a low-complexity color segmentation on the texture image and encodes the depth values within the segments. The same segmentation is calculated at the decoder, ensuring the closed-loop property of the system. Experimental results show that the proposed system is a viable alternative for 3D-HEVC in low-complexity applications.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116751384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A multihop WVSN typically consists of source nodes that monitor different areas and relay nodes that retransmit recorded scenes. In order to achieve the best possible video quality at the receiver while consuming the least possible transmission power, we propose a joint optimization scheme that allocates the available resources among the nodes with respect to the imposed constraints. Moreover, we formulate a weighted bi-objective optimization problem and study the tradeoff between video quality and consumed transmission power. The simulation demonstrate that excessive transmission power is used when power control is omitted for a rather small quality gain for certain nodes.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129611557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent works about shape retrieval, methods based on Dynamic Space Warping (DSW) and descriptors with contour information have had a significant presence. This paper introduces a technique for Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) that encompasses a robust corner detector and a new shape descriptor based on local and global features invariant to translation, rotation and scale. Moreover, this technique employs the effective DSW tool for shape matching and retrieval. We have conducted our experiments on binary images from MPEG-7 and Tari 1000 databases and our experiments have shown that the proposed method performed well in comparison with other methods defined by salience points and triangle-area representation.","PeriodicalId":180360,"journal":{"name":"2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128465187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
