The oft-discussed applications for such a capability include: anytime/anyplace e-mail access for owners of portable computers and personal communicators; mobile-off ice connectivity for mobile professionals and workgroups; fleet dispatch and tracking; point-of-sale data collection and credit-card authorization; and telemetry for devices such as vending machines, security systems, utilities, and traffic control systems. Across these market segments, there is considerable variance in the relative value assigned to the significant features of a CDPD modem. The process of developing a CDPD modem or integrating CDPD modem capability into a product must, therefore, begin with a clear understanding of the market being targeted and the feature preferences of that market segment.","PeriodicalId":177121,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of WESCON'95","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132293494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are six methods considered and discussed in this study. They can be classified into three bases, i.e. digital simulation (numerical integration method, direct or Lyapunov methods, and probabilistic), heuristic (expert system), and training (pattem recognition and artificial neural network). The merits and potentialities and the drawbacks of these approaches are described and then compared. The frst based approaches are classified as the conventional transient stability analysis. These approaches usually use very extensive mathematical models of the system. Digital computer simulation with large computational time is needed in solving the problem with these approaches. The heuristic approach is an artificial intelligence (AI) approach. Human expertize is encoded in the rule-based program. This, along with a set of numerical algorithms, constitute an expert system. The training based approaches use off-line generation of pattern sets to train the assessors. The difference between these two is the fact that the artificial neural network (ANN) is able to learn and then generalize the pattem after training stage. ANN has also been used in the last five years in the areas of power systems. It shows its promising potentialities for on-line monitoring. The present achievements on this approach and its future trends are explored and discussed.","PeriodicalId":177121,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of WESCON'95","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131677325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ok Ok so maybe you should expect some small difficulties; maybe a minor number of customers get a little irate, generally only the Beta customers, just make sure you tell them its not production code yet. If beta-test customers would only be more understanding and not so vocal you could work through the issues, its tough to figure out what they want sometimes. Of course expect schedule slips, that's normal in this day-and-age. What really costs is having to revise the product right after First Customer Ship. You may want one or more contingency plans incase a small forum of major customers decides not to purchase the product, that's easily taken care of, just add a few new features they want and give them a special release. Flexibly in the product team to handle fire-fights that's what its all about today, just make sure you keep-an-eye on the next product's schedule.","PeriodicalId":177121,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of WESCON'95","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120944423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In most systems, FPGAs are used to implement \"glue logic\", providing the advantages of high integration levels without the expense and risk of custom ASIC devices. However, as FPGAs have increased in capability, their use as in-systemconfigurable computing elements is receiving considerable attention. The subject of numerous research projects over the past few years, the use of FPGAs as reconfigurable computing elements is poised to expand rapidly in the commercial market, where FPGA-based processors will compete with parallel computers and even supercomputers in computationally-intensive applications. Indeed, reconfigurable FPGA technology holds the potential for re-shaping the future of computing by providing the capability to dynamically alter a computer's hardware resources to optimally service the immediate computational needs.","PeriodicalId":177121,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of WESCON'95","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130639055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
