The educational industry should not fall behind in the use of augmented reality to improve student teaching and learning. In addition, a few published studies have studied the use of AR in education, but the majority of these studies have not focused on content creation or the long-term impact of augmented reality on the respondents. This research is intended to fill a gap in the existing literature. The initiative is significant to the extent that understanding these areas is a useful indicator of what teachers and other stakeholders can do to improve the situation. The purpose of the study was to (a) determine whether there were any significant gender or academic qualification inequalities among respondents, and (b) determine how AR affected their learning process. A total of 76 students, 36 males and 40 females, participated in the study. Over ninety percent of the students surveyed in the study said that the augmented materials effectively communicated teaching and were beneficial to them. In addition, females (N = 40, mean = 29.35, SD = 3.13) showed a more positive outlook on the application of augmented reality than males. In addition, students with a higher level of education were more enthusiastic about the application of augmented reality.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122008287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The researcher used a descriptive research design of survey types for the study, with a sample of 550 respondents chosen randomly from five schools in the Nigerian city of Ado-Ekiti. The researcher gathered data via self-created questionnaires and discovered a reliability coefficient of 0.85. Respondents' opinions were analyzed using simple percentages, and the study hypotheses were examined using the PPMC (Pearson Product Movement Correlation) approach. The result found that 320 students, or 58.2%, agreed with the statement that the environment in which they live determines their understanding of educational technology. The findings also revealed a strong correlation between the variables (environmental factors, a lack of educational technology resources, parental socio-economic position, and gender) and secondary school students' academic awareness. (r =.420**, N = 200, P.05) It is recommended that teachers motivate students to use educational digital learning tools to aid their studies rather than rely on the teachers' teaching notes. Teachers should add more educational internet apps to the school's learning lab and convince learners to use digital learning tools to support their teachers' efforts during challenging home and school periods.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123373704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adopted learning ideas include Vygotsky's theory of constructivism, Ausubel's philosophy of meaningful learning, and the philosophical framework of the CTCA. This study employed sequential explanatory mixed methodologies and a quasi-experimental research methodology. A total of 138 learners in senior secondary II participated in the study. The reliability of the Machine Language Achievement Test (MLAT) was determined using the split-half method, which yielded a Spearman-Brown coefficient of 0.80. There is a statistically significant difference in method of teaching [F (1, 137) = 111.61; p<0.05], which was in favour of the CTCA group (experimental). There is no statistically significant difference in the gender of the students in the experimental group [F (1, 137) = 0.08; p > 0.05]. The interaction effect of methods and gender is not statistically significant [F (1, 137) = 1.61; p = 0.21]. We therefore encouraged and suggested that secondary school computer studies teachers should utilise CTCA in order to improve student learning.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127032016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being education in the non-formal mode, community education seeks to address the immediate needs of the recipients at the personal, group and community levels. This education targets the felt and shared needs of the community, through a collaborative approach that seeks to involve all stakeholders. Sadly however, it has been observed that community education is slipping gradually into the pattern, mode and focus of formal school education, with its attendant shortcomings and incapacity in tackling immediate problem, such as crime, corruption, unemployment, restiveness, ethnic Chauvinism, etc. This paper argues that through adopting creative approaches to the theory and practice of community education, some of these problems could be mitigated planning, conceptualization; such innovation should cover implementation and evaluation processes, hence rendering itself more relevant and responsive to the immediate needs and aspirations of contemporary Nigerian society.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133884901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"Ok I need help! Can CTCA rescue Teaching and Learning Machine Language in an African secondary school?","authors":"M. Adewusi, Tokunbo Odekeye, S. Kazibwe","doi":"10.59568/kjed-2023-3-1-07","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.59568/kjed-2023-3-1-07","url":null,"abstract":"This study was conducted to determine if the use of the Culturo-Techno-Contextual Approach (CTCA), a learning strategy that incorporates the use of cultural knowledge (indigenous knowledge), contextual drawing from the immediate environment to illustrate teaching, and the component of technology, can improve learning. What is the purpose of machine language? It is a difficult-to-learn concept in the computer studies curriculum of Nigeria, despite being the basis of computer programming. It is hypothesised that (i) there is no statistically significant difference in (a) academic achievement and (b) attitudes between males and females when taught in machine language. (ii) There are no statistically significant interaction effects of sex and training method on (a) academic achievement and (b) attitudes of students in machine language. A total of 207 computer studies students in senior secondary year two (SS2), comprising 106 females and 101 males, participated in the study. The instruments used to gather data were the machine language attitudes questionnaire (MLAQ) and machine language achievement test (MLAT), which had reliability coefficients of 0.71 and 0.70, respectively. The one-way MANCOVA multivariate F (Pillai’s Trace) was not significant [F = 0.49; P > 0.05]. Univariate tests on achievement [F (1, 203) = 0.72; P > 0.05] and attitude [F (1, 203) = 0.36; P > 0.05] failed to attain statistical significance. Hypothesis one was not rejected because there was no statistically significant effect of student gender on (a) academic achievement and (b) attitudes when taught using CTCA and the lecture method. The two-way MANCOVA multivariate F (Pillai’s Trace) was not significant [F = 2.26; p > 0.05]. The interaction effect between sex and training method on achievement [F (2, 199) =.90; P =.41] was not significant, but on attitude [F (2, 199) = 3.67; P =.03] attained statistical significance. The study concluded that educators are encouraged to use the CTCA and could demonstrate how it could be used as a pedagogical design for improving the achievement and attitude of students in computer studies and other subjects offered in senior secondary schools by capitalising on its assets. The strategies will assist both teachers and students in gaining respect for local activities and culture, its wisdom and ethics, indigenous science and technology, and the use of local resources, thereby enhancing sustainability, and they will encourage collaboration among students, resulting in improved academic achievement and attitude. Both males and females performed on neutral ground. Giving both male and female students the opportunity to excel on a neutral ground without having any influence over the other.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"165 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123918419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper investigates and identifies the speech act features of the nomination acceptance speech of a notable Nigeria politician, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The theoretical framework of Speech Act Theory of Austin and modified by Searle was adopted for its analysis. The analysis specifically focuses on the illocutionary acts that were used in the speech. These illocutionary acts are: assertives, directives, commissives, expressives and declaratives. The findings reveal that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu uses illocutionary acts: expressives (33.3%), assertives (13.3%), commissives (36.7%), directives (16.7%) and declaratives (0%). He uses the nomination acceptance speech to inform, thank, promise, request, state, assure, persuade and reflect on the present political challenges ahead his party, the All Progressive Congress in the 2023 Presidential election. It was further revealed from the illocutionary acts in the speech that Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the development of the nation cannot be overemphasised. Those identified speech acts further foster his political interest and commitment to the affairs and welfares of Nigerians. The work adds to the knowledge of speech act analysis and provides insights into the relevance of political commitment by politicians in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131505643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
