Also, other dietary combinations have shown effectiveness in the required carbohydrate supply in improving the performance of athletes before and during endurance workouts. The search was made in Green Science Hub, PubMed, Free Full PDF, and World Wide Web for randomized trials published from 1995 to 2022 with a basic interest in performance in endurance exercise. All citations amounted to 22 which were examined based on the inclusion criteria of randomization or crossover allocation to diet and the basic result was endurance performance. Four full-text articles qualified for inclusion and were added to the current review. In the days to weeks before testing, one trial with an increased fat diet versus carbohydrate enhanced performance, others proved infinitesimal in effect. There was no advantage in changing protein for carbohydrates during this period, but hazelnut consumption improved performance. In the pre-event meal, fat improved performance in combination with carbohydrate intake. During endurance events, interchanging carbohydrates with protein had different results on performance and should be studied more. Conclusively, carbohydrate provides the highest energy before and during activities for all endurance performance compared to other ones needed in high amount, including water.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"539 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124266824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The difference in average achievement data of those exposed to the periodic table unit of instruction utilizing concept mapping and those exposed to lecture technique before and after treatment were analyzed, as well as the disparity in mean score among students based on gender. The study's population consisted of 11,094 Senior Secondary 2 students from 11 public schools in Katsina. Sample for the study comprised 128 Chemistry learners. For proper guidance, three questions and three hypotheses were investigated. The samples for the study were randomly allocated to two classes for treatment and non-treatment. The researcher altered the Chemistry Performance Test (CPT) statistical collection. Descriptive statistics was used in answering the research question while a t-test was used for testing the hypotheses at 0.5. There was no difference in mean attainment among learners during the pre-test but a significant difference was recorded among them after the post-test. The mean score of those exposed to the periodic table idea utilizing concept mapping was higher than those exposed to the same unit of learning using the traditional approach. It also showed no disparity in average mean attainment between the sexes who were exposed to the periodic table concept employing therapy. The study advocated for the incorporation of the instructional approach in the school system for effective teaching of Chemistry at the secondary level.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131446850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, African literature dwells more on the functional role of literature than the entertaining role, and that is why African literature is often described as functional literature. African writers see literature as a tool for societal re-education and liberation. They consider themselves as the conscience of the nation and terror on corrupt political leaders. Therefore, they take advantage of the opportunity literature affords and affect the lives of the people. They do so by portraying the everyday socio-political and economic challenges thereby making their literary art a commitment geared toward a reconstruction of the socio-political and economic systems of the society. This paper is therefore an attempt to highlight how Niyi Osundare in State Visit and Ahmed Yerima in Hard Ground depict and attempt to reconstruct the society.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122056881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, the descriptions of proper and improper use of articles by students of Khartoum State universities were done in relation to factors propelling them. The data for the study were drawn from the essays of university students in Khartoum. Through the research design, collection and analysis of first-hand information were done using qualitative approach and techniques. The findings revealed that most Sudan University students are not aware of the right usage of English articles and their application, and using English articles is considered a daunting task during language learning. In addition, most of the challenges faced by students in using articles in English require that both students and teachers pay attention to ways of overcoming them. Hence, teachers should implement academic activities to help English language learners improve their writing abilities, especially on proper usage of articles in English.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"33 1-2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116725694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is expected to engender continued access to learning anywhere irrespective of time and location. This does not preclude the traditional face-to-face method of teaching from providing an opportunity for robust student-teacher interaction. The combination of these two modes of teaching could be termed blended learning or blended learning, and it is fast becoming a popular approach to teaching in this post-COVID-19 era. Blended learning as an approach to the teaching-learning system is a necessary merging of face-to-face traditional teaching approach and online-based class for actual learning that encourages teacher’s control of class activity in post-COVID-19 time. Notwithstanding, the online method of teaching is characterized by problems occasioned by individualization and a series of other challenges in aftermath of post-COVID-19. Blended learning has therefore been shown to encompass numerous benefits that are lacking in either the online or internet-based teaching methods or the traditional face-to-face method of teaching. These are found in examples such as Flipped learning, Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI), live chat and other e-learning environment techniques that have been reported to boost learning outcomes. It is instructive to note that despite the advancements and seeming benefits, teacher-student interaction which is quintessential to student development has been estranged. This is a strong limitation that may make the sole adoption of learning strategies outside the regular classes (Online Learning) more complicated. It is recommended that the blended learning approach should be encouraged to help synchronize the two teaching strategies to maximize the benefits that can minimize or eradicate the inherent deficiencies.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"139 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124364973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose was to describe the visual components and communicative devices employed by the cartoonist to send his message to the viewer/readers. The cartoons essentially were used to satirise represented phenomenon that arose through intrigues that characterised Nigeria 2015 Presidential elections. Data for the study were drawn from both primary and secondary sources. The main data for the study comprised 3 colour cartoons purposively selected from different editions of TELL news-magazines published in 2015. The selection of the cartoons was predicated upon the subject under consideration. Analysis of the data is based on multimodal discourse analysis as explicated by Gunter Kress and Theo Van Leeuwen (2001). The result showed that semiotic resources such as colour, image, symbols and icons, gaze and posture enhance the semantic quality of the cartoons. To this end, five research questions and two research hypotheses were proposed. The data was collected from twenty secondary schools in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. One hundred (100) students and teachers were selected to participate in this study. The instruments used were Students’ Attitude Towards Mathematics Questionnaire (SATMQ) and Teachers’ Attitude Towards Mathematics Questionnaire (TATMQ). T-test and regression statistics were used to analyse data at 0.05 level of confidence. The findings indicated that there was a statistically significant difference between the students’ attitude towards Mathematics in public and private secondary schools. Also, there was a statistically significant difference between the professional status of teachers in public and private secondary schools. This implied that there are more professional qualified teachers in public schools than their private school counterparts which could have positive influence on students’ academic performance in Mathematics. There was, however, no statistically significant influence of teachers’ competence on students’ academic performance of public and private secondary schools in Mathematics. Invariably, this implies that teaching personnel competence is not the only contributing factors on students’ academic performance in Mathematics. Therefore, there was no statistically significant influence of the students’ attitude on the academic performance of public and private secondary schools in Mathematics.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126115669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this research centres around the contributions of contemporary African writers by interrogating the subjects of trauma, memory and migration in African literature. It analyses the transition of trauma from the colonial period till now using contemporary literary text. This discourse also examines the issues arising from migration in the writings of migrant writers. Further, the essay elucidates the issue of collective memory in African literature. It probes the effect of colonialism on the lives of Africans and their response to its trauma throughout history. It concludes by identifying the strategies employed by contemporary African writers in their works to decolonise the African mind and the inherent deficiencies.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133111763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An aspect of these innovations concerns the use of emoticons, emojis and stickers in instant messaging and other digital communication applications. The aim of this study is to examine the extent to which the usage of emoticons, emojis and stickers has influenced communication on social media platforms; how well students use emoticons, emojis and stickers on social media; whether there are problems associated with the usage and attachment of meaning to these devices on social media and how such problems can be addressed. Data for the study was sourced through the administration of a questionnaire on fifty very active users of the social media who were randomly selected from among undergraduate students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria. The responses to the questionnaire were analysed and interpreted using simple percentage, and the results are presented in tables. The findings of the study show that emoticons and emojis are prominent tools that encourage social media communications and interactions, and aid comprehension of messages among active social media users. The study recommends that measures be put in place by the controllers and administrators of social media to prevent negative or illicit usage of emoticons, emojis and stickers given that these devices can sometimes be vulgar, unofficial, misapplied and/or misinterpreted.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"46 1-2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114118866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
