It is in this context that arts and design plays a significant role in creating and preserving some of the societal cultural heritage through painting, carving, molding and building. It is therefore disheartening to note that most of the roles which art as a subject was included in school curriculum to perform have been negated as a result of the inability of the teachers to effectively use strategies like mastery learning that could motivate students’ interest in the subject. The study, therefore, assessed teachers’ use of mastery learning strategy in implementation of basic school art education curriculum for reinforcement of cultural sustainability in Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population comprised of all the basic school teachers in Katsina state, Nigeria. Target population was creative art teachers in basic schools. The sample was 50 creative art teachers purposely selected from five public basic schools in Dutsinma Local Government Area (LGA), Katsina State. Questionnaire tagged: ‘Assessment of Mastery Learning Strategy Questionnaire’ (AMLS) was constructed, validated and trial tested on teachers in Kurfi LGA which yielded a reliability coefficient at 0.75. In an attempt to answer the questions raised, mean, percentage and standard deviation were employed to answer the research questions while chi-square test statistics were made use of in testing the formulated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the study indicated that most teachers were uninformed of the mastery learning strategy. Based on the finding, the study recommended that workshops on mastery learning should be organized to update teachers' knowledge of mastery learning and other motivating learning strategies. The study concluded that similar studies should be carried out in related subjects to ascertain the effectiveness of learning strategies used in imparting knowledge to learners.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115797352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the challenges of online instruction using available e-learning models, many higher educational institutions fail to handle the continuation of the educational process during the lockdown. This paper, using a document review of already done research, moved beyond diagnosis to describe students and institutional experiences, challenges and the prospects of e-learning for higher institutions in Uganda. In developing essence, the study found that higher education in Uganda has forged ahead with its role of teaching, research, community development and storage of knowledge, despite all the challenges. In contribution to the ongoing conversation, these findings x-ray the need for higher institutions to embrace the new normal, to increase access to higher education in Uganda. This paradigm shift has not, in any way, changed the role of higher education in Sub-Saharan Africa, and in Uganda in particular.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132619331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In response to the interest in technology in education and faculty members incorporating technology in their research, this study was carried out to assess faculty needs concerning technology in the educational delivery system of Nigerian universities. The study adopted a qualitative approach to investigate the research needs of faculties concerning technology. This qualitative study randomly selected a convenience sample of 100 faculty and administrators in the faculty of education of 12 universities in Nigeria across several states. Using focus-group discussion sessions and interviews, the researchers met with 100 participants in groups of 10 to 15 for each session. Data were transcribed and entered into a database for analysis. The use of technology in research such as searching (search engines), data gathering, analysis, and publishing was discussed before explaining the needs and concerns of faculties with regard to technology. The study shows that there is a need for government and universities to adopt and institutionalize e-learning which will help to close the gap in technology","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134065266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, this research paper is based on the investigation of the status of English language vis-a-vis its teaching and learning in (ESL) society. Its teaching and learning in such society were x-rayed with the view of finding out the challenges through the analysis of our data (West African Examinations Council’s results). Reasons why users (students) of the language perform poorly/unsatisfactorily in its assessment, compared to their performances in other subjects at the certificate level were also revealed through this research work. The validity of WAEC records justifies its choice for this work and it gives an insight into the actual performance of the users of the language, hence its veracity. Working within the Linguistic framework, this study considers the Sociolinguistic approach in the interpretation of the data. Our basic findings show that the English Language plays some significant roles in any ESL society and learning the language is not without its numerous challenges. This paper concludes that English language teaching and learning in non-native speakers’ society has some challenges despite its crucial place. Besides, the performance of nonnative speakers/users as seen in our data, the prospects of English Language in ESL society cannot be overestimated in terms of its indispensability for national development. Thus, the would-be teachers in schools should be adequately trained and well equipped with necessary and modern trends in the subject. Good reading materials should also be made available and affordable for the students.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115475591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study identified, analyzed, and related the prominent grammatical components in the letter to its socio-political context. The study employed both primary and secondary sources of data. Additionally, the data were analysed using the purview of the linguistic approach of stylistics. It was discovered that the grammar of the language of the text was deployed in a manner of appealing to President Jonathan to willingly and graciously accept the outcome of the 2015 General Elections in Nigeria. The study equally demonstrated that grammatical devices employed in the letter illuminated the style of language use of Osundare in political discourse. The study concluded that grammar has an important role to play in studying political discourses as it enhances the discovering of their intentions.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124641040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, they portend to be important devices in educational development, especially in terms of language acquisition. The linguistic features in these three genres of oral literature make it possible for language to be learnt in a very enjoyable, pedagogical and natural manner. This study was carried out to bring out the peculiar linguistic features in children’s oral literature with the aim of describing how songs, rhymes, and stories aid language acquisition and learning. The data for the study are eight (8) songs, seven (7) rhymes, and two (2) stories randomly selected from some English reading materials. Linguistic Stylistic Model and Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar formed the bases for the analysis. The findings of the study show that composers of children songs, rhymes and stories strategically deploy language to enhance children’s skills in spellings, pronunciations, identifications of words, and arrangement of words into meaningful sentences. The study concludes that songs, rhymes, and stories are useful tools to introduce children to a language and to make the acquisition and learning of such a language easy with fun, activity and motivation.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114300096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In essence, stylistics is relevant in the study of both linguistic and literary texts which serves as the basis for distinguishing linguistic stylistics from literary stylistics. Literary texts are usually analysed to bring to fore the essence of focusing on the language of literature but to also demonstrate the concerns of literary-stylisticians as they set definite boundaries in analysing literary texts. In this paper, a poem titled “Goloba” by Ademola Dasylva is analysed to justify the claim that linguistic stylistics is a veritable approach for analysing and interpreting literary texts, by looking into the graphological features, phonological features, lexico-syntactic features and lexico-semantic features inherent in the poem. These linguistic features are distinctive in interpreting literary texts and the distinctions between linguistic stylistics and literary stylistics have been highlighted. Thus, the paper concludes that literary texts are not only the subject of literary critics but stylisticians.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130077682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The menace has caused developing countries to fall behind in terms of national and international development. This prompted both state actors and international organisations to wage war against corruption through multiple strategies. The Nigerian fourth republic follows the race in combating corruption and enhancing national development through anti-corruption institutions such as EFCC and ICPC to sanitise the political economy of the state. This paper elucidates the challenges in combating corruption with aim of offering solutions. Despite the existence of antigraft institutions, corruption is still going on due to the lack of political will by the government, political interference, lack of autonomy, paucity of funds among others. Descriptive analysis was duly adopted for this study. Secondary data collection methods were used to collect necessary data for the study. In this regard, secondary data were gathered from textbooks, journals and internet facilities. The study recommended, among other things, that only competent, experienced and morally upright persons should be appointed to leadership positions in anti-corruption agencies in the country. It was also recommended that sufficient funds should be voted for anti-corruption agencies to enable them to acquire necessary security equipment.","PeriodicalId":176201,"journal":{"name":"Kampala International University Journal of Education","volume":"02 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129412317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
