The disease is classified by mutations in specific subunits of the NADPH oxidase enzyme. There are one X-linked and four autosomal recessive forms of disease. The organisms cultured from lesion of patients with chronic granulomatous disease are generally catalase-producing including Staphylococci, Escherichia coli, Serratia; or fungi such as Aspergillus species. Recurrent or serious infections usually lead to diagnosis of disease in early childhood. We report three male patients who were diagnosed 5, 10, 13 years old, respectively and showed different clinical presentation.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88491936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, the objective of this study was to assess antibiotic use pattern at Dental Clinic in Nekemte Referral Hospital. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted by reviewing prescription cards of dental patients from February to January, 2016. The sampling frame of the study was the list of prescription cards at the dental clinic during the last one year period (from January 1 to December 31, 2015). Results: Within 386 prescriptions /medical record cards reviewed, a total of 634 medications were prescribed for patients of which 61.04% drugs were antibiotics. Amoxicillin (69.25%) was the most commonly used antibiotics. All drugs were prescribed by generic name. The average number of antibiotics per prescription and the percentage of encounters with an injection prescribed were 1.64% and 0.04%, respectively. The analysis of antibiotic prescriptions showed that a total of 85 prescription errors were detected and the majority of errors were identified to be omission errors. Conclusion: All the antibiotics were prescribed by generic names, but there were a significant number of prescribing errors of antibiotics. Therefore, prescribers should regularly check completeness of prescription and pharmacists should provide continuous drug information on rational use of antibiotics and of course should work in a team sprit with prescribers.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78380898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our study, we aimed to demonstrate our radiologic, hormonal and clinical follow up of adrenal incidentaloma Material and methods: We retrospectively reviewed 276 patients with adrenal incidentaloma and excluded 73 of them. We collected the data of demographic findings, size, hormonal activity of the mass and malignancy. Results: Between 2007-2016 we diagnosed 203 adrenal incidentaloma patients in our clinic. The mean size of the tumors was 22,7±10,8mm. 157 (77,3%) of them were non-functional. We diagnosed 21 (10,3%) tumors with autonomous cortisol secretion, 9 (4,4%) cushing syndrome, 5 (2,5%) pheochromocytoma, 9 (4,4%) primary aldosteronism, 2 (1%) adrenocortical carcinoma. We suggested surgery to patients with 15 functional, 13 non-functional incidentaloma and 2 incidentaloma with suspicious malignancy. 21 cases preferred to undergo adrenalectomy and 12 of them had retroperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy. During their routine follow up there was not any change in size of the tumors (p:0,12). Conclusion: The incidence of non-functional adrenal incidentolama (%77,3) was similar to the literature (4-5-6). There was not any change in size of the tumors during 3,9 year follow up of the patients. Although we had limited number of patients, we showed that radiologic evolvement contributes to differentiation of benign and malign lesions. By this way, we could follow patients more conservatively.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75118735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be complete or incomplete and commonly seen in deciduous than in the permanent dentition with higher frequency in anterior maxillary regions. Talon’s cusp is an unusual cuspal projection from the lingual aspect of the tooth with normal enamel and dentin and varying degree of pulp tissue. It commonly affects the permanent maxillary lateral incisors followed by central incisors and canines. Talon cusp is mostly found on the lingual aspect of teeth and rarely it projects from the facial aspect. We hereby report a case of fusion of permanent left central and lateral incisor with facial talon cusp which is rarely reported.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84804086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and method: This prospective study included 123 premature and 121 mature newborns, totally 244 cases. All cases had sonographic investigation from the anterior fontanel with 4.8-11.0 MHz linear transducer. The subarachnoid space/ventricular width ratio was calculated. Analysis of variables was completed with SPSS 22.0 program; and independent samples T test was used for the comparisons between the groups. Results: The birth week, head circumference, weight and height values of mature newborns were higher compared to the premature newborns (p<0.001, for each). The subarachnoid space and ventricular width values for mature and premature newborns were 3.13±0.39 mm, 1.79±0.45 mm, and 3.45±0.47 mm and 2.02±0.54 mm, respectively (p<0.001, for each). The subarachnoid space/ventricular width ratios were 0.90±0.02 and 0.89±0.05 in mature and premature newborns with no difference identified between the groups (p=0.432). The result of Receiver Operating Curve analysis was that the threshold values for premature-mature distinction were 2.29 mm for subarachnoid space and 2.49 mm for ventricular width; and the sensitivity and specificity for both values were found to be 100% (p<0.001, for each). Conclusion: Subarachnoid space and ventricular width values vary according to the birth week of newborns, though the subarachnoid space/ventricular width ratio is not different. Transfontanel sonography is a useful imaging method for measurement of cerebrospinal fluid spaces in newborns.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84809229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to evaluate the life quality of diabetic children and adolescents who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus and compare the perceptions of life quality through the life quality scale before and after summer camp. Materials and Method: A scale of life quality was applied to 31 children/adolescents with type 1 Diabetes Mellitus between ages 9-16 years in the Diabetes Summer Camp. Results: The perceived quality of life of children / adolescents with type 1 diabetes were better after diabetes camp (p< 0.05). When the Quality of Life Scale scores compared by gender, it was found that the emotional well-being and self esteem subscale scores and the total scores of boys were statistically significantly higher after diabetes camp. But the Quality of Life Scale scores of girls did not show a significant increase. Conclusion: This study showed that the diabetes camp, which promoted the ability of diabetic children and adolescents to manage their illnesses, changed the perception of quality of life of male diabetic patients in particular. However, repeating similar studies involving a larger number of cases will allow better evaluation of the results of such activities.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82448593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Asymptomatic, as well as paroxysmal headache, gait disturbance, nausea, vomiting, learning difficulty and death may occur. Computed tomography (CT) is also seen as a round or oval, non-contrasting lesion. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) also shows hyperintense at T1 weighed and isointens at T2 weighed sequences. Stereotactic aspiration, microscopic or endoscopic approaches, shunt can be applied. Total excision should be targeted. Materials and Methods: We aimed to investigate the age, sex, complaint, hydrocephalus presence, neurological examination findings, surgical method and results of 19 cases of colloid cyst in our clinic between 2012-2017. Results: Eleven of 19 cases were female (57.9%) and 8 were male (42.1%).The average age was 27.2 (2-62). The most common complaint was headache. Ptosis due to visual disturbance was seen in 5.3% (1 patient), ataxia in 10.5% (2 patients), hydrocephalus with memory loss in 31.5% (6 patients). Six patients underwent cystectomy with endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) and transcranial surgery in 13 patients. Ventriculoperitoneal shunt was performed to one patient at eight months after surgery. Rhinorrhea and menengitis was seen in one patient. Medical theraphy was given to this patient. One patient died because of acute cerebral anfarct. Conclusion: Asymptomatic old patients must be followed periodically.
