Material and Method: Medical records from 201 women in reproductive period presenting with nonspecific abdominal pain admitted to emergency department between 2010 and 2014 are evaluated retrospectively. Results: Diagnostic laparoscopy was performed in 125 of 201 patients. The mean age of patients was 8.5 years, mean white blood cell (WBC) count:10.9 103/uL, mean C-reactive protein (CRP) levels: 2.6 mg/dl, mean preoperative follow-up time 7.8 hours, mean operation time 32 min., mean postoperative follow-up duration time was 15 hours. In ultrasonography, 38% of patients had minimal liquid in Douglas’s area. In Computerized Tomography (CT) with intravenous, oral-rectal contrast, 30% of patients had minimal liquid. In 89% of patients, who underwent laparoscopic exploration, cause of the abdominal pain was found. In 57 explorations, purulent fluid was detected and associated to pelvic inflammatory disease, in 42 patients sero-hemorrhagic fluid was detected and associated to hemorrhagic cyst rupture. 9 patients had acute appendicitis, 2 patients had Meckel’s diverticulitis and one patient had a left lower quadrant brid. Conclusion: Our results indicate that laparoscopy serves not only as diagnostic, but also as diagnostic tool for female patients in reproductive age with nonspecific abdominal pain.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87552363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Infective endocarditis usually affects the native valve and may lead to non-cardiac complications such as embolism, metastatic infection and septicemia due to the embolus of septic vegetations. Devel-opment of heart failure, systemic embolization, and perivalvular abscess are indications for emergency surgery. Complication rate of vegetations which are greater than 10 mm is more than 90% however, the complication rate of vegetations which are less than 10 mm is 48%. Medical treatment alone may not always be sufficient and may lead to more serious complications such as peripheral embolism. Here, we present a patient diagnosed with acute aortic valve infective endocarditis and left femoral artery embolism in the light of current literature.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86511307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is found most often in the posterior mandible and occurs as a slow growing painless mass. Diagnosis is made based on the clinical, radiographic and histopathologic features. Newer imaging modalities such as cone beam computed tomography offer massive advantage over traditional radiography thereby helping in better diagnosis and treatment planning. The goal of treatment is complete elimination of the tumor with reconstruction of the defect. This can be achieved with precise radiographic images concerning the size and extension of the lesion as is obtained by cone beam computed tomography. We present here a case of follicular ameloblastoma with a detailed description of its various radiographic features thereby improving the body of knowledge regarding the use of this new development in the field of imaging.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86339331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Method: This prospective study included 56 males and 41 females for a total of 97 adolescents. Cases were divided into three groups as those healthy according to BMI and hepatosteatosis (Group 1), those obese without hepatosteatosis (Group 2) and those obese with hepatosteatosis (Group 3). Palatine tonsil size was assessed with a 4.8-11.0 MHz linear transducer, while liver echo was assessed with a 3.5-5 MHz convex transducer. Cut-off values for variables in the groups were analyzed with Receiver Operating Curve. Results: The mean ages in Groups 1, 2 and 3 were 159.67±24.9, 159.17±24.7 and 160.7±25.8 months, respectively. Tonsil volumes were 3.18±0.5, 3.73±0.9 and 4.45±0.7 ml in Groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively and there was a statistically significant difference between the groups (p values for Groups 1-2 0.011, Groups 1-3 <0.001 and Groups 2-3 0.002). The sensitivity and specificity of threshold tonsil volume for differentiation between groups was calculated as 50% and 90% for the threshold value of 3.73 ml between Groups 1 and 2, 86.7% and 100% for the threshold value of 3.88 ml between Groups 1 and 3 and 86.7% and 63.3% for the threshold value of 3.88 ml between Groups 2 and 3. Conclusion: TCU is beneficial method to objectively assess palatine tonsil volume. There is a positive increasing correlation between palatine tonsil volume with BMI and hepatosteatosis in adolescents.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88985705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Genetics, environment and lifestyle are among aetiological factors of this disease. Genetic contribution associated with this disease is generally classified into 2 types: monogenic syndromes that display severe obesity, and the polygenic model of common obesity. Single-gene mutations can cause severe obesity resulting from alteration in central and peripheral appetite control mechanisms. Candidate gene and genome-wide association studies have led to the identification of nine loci associated with Mendelian forms of obesity and 58 loci contributing to polygenic obesity. These loci explain a small fraction of the heritability for obesity and many genes remain to be identified. The interaction of several polymorphisms and epigenetic modifications open a new research field for common obesity. As a result, still remains to be a mystery.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83528102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: 132 limbs of 128 patients treated with electromyography with a preliminary clinical diagnosis of cubital tunnel syndrome between the years of January 2009 and January 2016 were evaluated. Patients were evaluated according to gender, affected side and electromyography results to assess the presence of neuropathy. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by Kormogonov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk test. Results: 70 patients (54%) were male and 58 (46%) were female and the average age was 40.25±12.66. The affected side was right extremity in 70 (53%) of cases and left extremity in 62 (47%) who underwent electromyography with a preliminary diagnosis of neuropathy. Symptoms were bilateral in 4 cases. As a result of electromyography 43 (32.6%) (27 male, 16 female) patients had neuropathy. Affected side in 23 of these patients (53.5%) was left limb and 20 (46.5%) was right limb and 30 of involved patients were in the range of 30-60 years. Conclusion: According to the results of our study, we found that history and neurological examination have a low efficiency in the diagnosis of cubital tunnel syndrome. This may be associated with relatively subjective evaluation of neurological examination and history and also many pathologies in the differential diagnosis of cubital tunnel syndrome. We believe that electromyelography application is required in addition to a detailed physical examination for cubital tunnel syndrome in order to avoid delayed diagnosis and incomplete/incorrect treatment.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86641873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ultrasonic elastography is a new diagnostic method, the use of which has diversified considerably in recent years. An increase in intima media thickness in the carotid arteries is an early finding of atherosclerosis. Our purpose was to investigate the effect of atherosclerosis in the development of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms and to be able to recommend a non-invasive and inexpensive scanning method aiming at early diagnosis. Material and Methods: Thirty-three patients with ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms (aTAA group) and 40 patients with normal measurement (control group) values were included in the study. The carotid artery intima media thicknessof carotid arteries were measured using B mode ultrasonography. Elastographic examination of the intima-media was then performed. Results: Body mass index, past smoking status, hypertension, presence of coronary artery disease and hyperlipidemia were higher in the aTAA group than in the control group (p<0.05). No significant difference was determined between these two groups’ ultrasonic elastography or intima media thickness in the carotid arteries values (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that the effect of atherosclerosis in the pathogenesis of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms is limited. Vascular ultrasonic elastography and intima media thickness determination in the carotid arteries appear not to be effective in the evaluation of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85257906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
