We presented this case to remind eosinophilic acid in cases with unexplained etiology. A 29-years old man presented to an emergency department with abdominal swelling, progressively worsening nausea, and fatigue over one month. The patient had no history of allergic disease. There was moderate ascites in the physical examination. Percent eosinophil was 60% in peripheral blood smear while IgE level was increased in the serum. There was ascites on abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan. Serum ascites-albumin gradient (SAAG) was non-portal. Eosinophilic infiltration was detected biopsy samples obtained by upper GI tract endoscopy and in bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. The abdominal pain, ascites and all laboratory tests were completely recovered after 12 weeks of prednisolone therapy. Eosinophilic gastroenteritis should be considered in case of markedly increased eosinophilia in ascites fluid.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83652512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, the ingestion of foreign bodies in children is one of the most important health problems. Material and Methods: Between January 2014 and June 2017, 119 patients, admitted to Mustafa Kemal University [MKU] Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery with foreign body ingestion diagnosis, were retrospectively studied. Patients were evaluated in terms of age, gender, complaints of arrival, ingested foreign body quality, location in the gastrointestinal tract and treatment approaches. Results: Of the patients, 74 were males [62%] and 45 were females [38%]. The mean age of the patients was 4.3 years [6 months-15 years]. Foreign bodies most commonly seen in the esophagus first stenosis in 73 patients [61%].Most commonly complaint at presentation was parental recognition of the ingested object and hypersalivation. The most commonly ingested foreign bodies included coins. Conclusion: In case of clinical suspicion, the possibility of foreign body ingestion must be kept in mind. Education of the parents and taking some precautions where the children play are the most important protective factors.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72769598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Methods: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of asthma and other allergic disorders in an industrial town.Study Design: Prospective, Cross-sectional study. This cross-sectional population-based study was conducted in Kemalpasa, Azmir, Turkey, which is an industrial town. Using the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC), the questionnaire was carried out on 1511 school-children aged between 13-14 years living in the district center. Results: The ISAAC Phase One questionnaire was answered by 1373 (90.87%) students. Six hundred ninety two (50.5%) of the children were girls and 681 (49.5%) were boys. The frequency of ever wheezing was 34%,that of current wheezing was 31.1% and that of physician-diagnosed asthma was 4.1%. The frequency of ever rhinitis was 36.6%, current rhinitis was 31.3%, current allergic rhino-conjunctivitis was 22.1% and physician-diagnosed allergic rhinitis was 11.1%. The frequency of ever eczema was 11.3% and that of physician-diagnosed eczema was 3.6%. Conclusion: The prevalence of asthma was found to be significantly higher, although there was no significant difference in allergic rhinitis and eczema compared with non-industrial neighboring states. The incidence of asthma was higher than other provinces which may be explained by the risk factors associated with this industrialized area. The fact that only children of the same age group and residence were evaluated contributed to the epidemiological value of our study.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81856673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is called papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) if the nodule is less than 10 mm in diameter. It has been shown that platelets may play an essential role during chronic inflammation, cancer progression, and metastasis. The aim of this study was to examine the value of platelet indices including platelet count, mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), and plateletcrit (PCT) in PTC. Material and Methods: 26 patients (19 female, 7 male) with PTC diagnosis were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups: papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) and PTC. All patients who were included in the study were examined for complete blood count parameters. Results: There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of age and gender. Leukocyte count, neutrophil count and percentage, lymphocyte count and percentage, platelet count, plateletcrit, and MPV were not statistically different between groups. PDW were significantly higher in patients with PTC than in those with PTMC. Conclusion: Our results show that patients with PTC have higher PDW levels compared to patients with PTMC. Elevated PDW in PTC may be useful in diagnosis of the disease and for better understanding of its pathogenesis.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90936412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Visual Analogue Scale was used for pain assessment, Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity Motor Assessment Scale was used for upper extremity function evaluation, and Motor Activity Log-28 was used for evaluating motor activity after the demographic data of the subjects were recorded. Brunnstrom stages were used to identify, define, and quantify the recovery stages after stroke. Results: The average age of the individuals participating in the study was 54.56±8.10, and the Body Mass Index was 26.12±3.68. The subjects’ rest pain score was 30.00±19.90 and the activity pain score 42.83±24.44. The total score of the Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity Motor Evaluatıon Scale was 18.84±17.08, the Quality of Movement sub-parameter score of the Motor Activity Log was 28 0.89±0.87, and the Amount of Use sub parameter score was 0.93±0.92. The relationship between the upper extremity function of the patients and motor activity was observed, which showed that all sub-parameters had a moderate correlation in the positive direction (r=0.539-0.779, p<0.001). However, there was no relationship between pain, function and motor activity (r=0.054-0.238, p=0.086-0.700). Conclusion: This study showed that upper extremity motor activity and function were significantly affected and closely related to each other in early hemiplegic patients. However, there was no correlation between pain, function and motor activity.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77052122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Methods: A total of 25 individuals (19 male, 6 female) diagnosed with SCD were included in the study. Pulmonary system, quality of life and pain was measured. Pain in rest and activity was questioned with Visual Analog Scale. The quality of life was assessed by the Short Form-36 (SF-36) Scale. Results: It was determined that the individuals experienced an important level of pain in rest and activity levels, however it was seen that the pain level in activity was higher. It was determined that the oxygen saturation average was 91% and incidence of secretion and the number of coughing individuals was 6 and that 2 individuals used accessory respiration muscles. It was also found out that the SF-36 Scale’s parameters’ scores were low and that the quality of life of individuals were negatively affected. There was a moderate, negative and significant correlation between pain in rest and SF-36 Scale’s physical function, pain, general health, mental health parameters. Conclusion: It has been concluded that in the treatment of patients with SCD, although it is not mentioned in patient history, pain related problems should be taken into consideration. We believe that pulmonary and pain rehabilitation to patients with SCD will support their wellbeing.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75443931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bone generally has the ability to regenerate completely but requires a very small fracture space or some sort of scaffold to do so. Successful results of allografts or autograft in reconstruction of bone defect after tumor resection encouraged its utilization in post-traumatic defects. In this study, prospective representation of clinical and radiological medium-period outcomes of used autgrafts and allografts is aimed. Materials and Methods: 45 patients who were treated, for whom reconstruction was performed by using allograft or autograft following tumor excision or curettage between the years 2005-2015 in Inonu University Faculty of Medicine were included in the study. Patients were evaluated in regard to age, gender, tumor localization and union. Obtained data were analyzed by SPSS software version 15.0 Results: During follow-ups of the patients; union was radiologically observed in an average of 6.1 months in 43 (91%) patients (in 21 autografts it was 5.8 months, in 22 allografts it was 6.5 months). Nonunion occurred in 2 (9%) patients. No statistically significant difference was determined between groups with allografts and autografts (P>0.05). Conclusion: No difference was determined between use of either autogenous or allogenous grafts in segmental or cavitary bone defects, and reconstruction is a method with high success.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75420471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Viral infection due to herpes zoster and herpes simplex is the most common known cause of Bell’s palsy. It is seen in about 20-35 out of 100.000 people each year. Its incidence is low in children under the age of 14 and it is more frequent within the range of 15-45 years. It is also known to occur equally in men and women. In the third trimester of pregnancy and postpartum in the first week, its frequency increases 3-fold. Unilateral paralysis, lagophthalmos, keratitis, droop of eyelid and edge of mouth, mouth and eye dryness, conjunctivitis and decreasing sensation and 2/3 taste of luxury in front of lingua are its common symptoms. 3 days from the onset of palsy, patients begin to use corticosteroid and antiviral drugs. 71% of patients had improvement after recovery but 29% of patients were shown to have hemifacial weakness and residual sequela throughout life. Synkinesis is the most common sequela of Bell’s palsy. The effects of physiotherapy methods and their different combinations with other methods on prognosis were discussed in the treatment of Bell’s palsy.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74215225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
