Material and Methods: 150 patients with psoriasis who were referred to our dermatology clinic between January 2017 and January 2018 were included in the study. Parameters of age, gender, occupation, age of onset, joint or nail involvement, lesion morphology, lesion distribution, disease severity, family history, accompanying diseases, received or ongoing treatments, smoking and alcohol use and body mass index were recorded. The data were analyzed statistically. Results: Of the patients participating in the study, 65 were female and 85 were male. The mean age of onset was 21.65 ± 15.70. Family history was present in 26%, early onset 72%, accompanying diseases 16%, joint involvement 24%, nail involvement 28%, smoking 31.33% and alcohol intake 2.66% of the patients. The most common clinical type was plaque (58.66%), the most common site was scalp/face region (81.33%), and the most commonly used systemic treatment was acitretin (30.66%). Conclusion: Our study results were similar to those of domestic and international studies evaluating the clinical and demographic characteristics of psoriasis. Smoking rates, age of onset and age of admission to hospital were lower in females. Accompanying disease rates were higher in patients with positive family history. We believe that a comprehensive history including alcohol and cigarette use, comorbidities, joint and nail involvement in psoriasis-diagnosed patients will be more useful in terms of the disease progression.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78027290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bariatric surgical methods, particularly laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), provide effective weight loss and control (1). Patients should be examined with respect to concomitant pathologies before LSG. In particular, gastric pathologies may alter the surgical procedure. Two-thirds of the gastrointestinal stromal tumors develop in the stomach (2). Such slowly-growing sub-mucosal tumors can occasionally ulcerate and result in bleeding, but in most cases they are only incidentally identified. Very large lesions may result in abdominal pain, a sense of fullness and weight loss. While endoscopy and biopsy are crucial for diagnosis, endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) may also be helpful. Computerized tomography of the abdomen, pelvis and thorax is crucial to identify metastases and the primary tumor. In such tumors, wedge resection with clean borders is the adequate method of surgical therapy (3). While there is no known relation between gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and obesity, patients should be examined before bariatric surgery in terms of lesions that may have an asymptomatic course, such as GIST, lymphoma and leiomyoma. Several studies have reported that GIST-like pathologies may be detected during bariatric surgery procedures or postoperative histopathological examinations of the resected gastric specimen (4). A 57 years-old male patient was admitted to our clinics for a planned LSG due to morbid obesity. His body weight was 153 kg and height was 164 cm, his BMI was calculated as 56.6 kg/m2. Upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy indicated chronic active gastritis and an abdominal ultrasonography was performed as the patient reported abdominal pain. Ultrasonography showed cholelithiasis and a mass with an unclear origin located in the epigastric region of the posterior aspect of anterior abdominal wall. Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass originating from the stomach wall, starting from the antrum with an anterior superior exophytic extension towards the large curvature. The mass was measured as 90 x 50 x 53 mm at the most pronounced position and it was found to be consistent with GIST (Figure 1-2).","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82387180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to many histopathological changes caused by alkaline reflux gastritis, the relationship of alkaline reflux gastritis with intestinal metaplasia is also important. Gastric intestinal metaplasia is a precancerous lesion that requires a follow-up protocol. Material and Methods: This study included 1005 patients who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy and were diagnosed with alkaline reflux gastritis at Endoscopy Unit of Gastroenterology Department of KarabA¼k University, Medical School between January 2013 and January 2016. Results: When the data of these patients were retrospectively reviewed, intestinal metaplasia was detected in 203 patients (20.2%), whereas Helicobacter pylori was detected in 466 patients (46.4%). Conclusion: In our study, it was found that there was an increase in the frequency of intestinal metaplasia in patients with alkaline reflux gastritis who had increased with age, male gender and Helicobacter pylori. This was a retrospective study indicating the association of H. pylori with intestinal metaplasia in patients with alkaline reflux gastritis. We think that there is a need for further prospective studies to investigate the presence of intestinal metaplasia in patients with alkaline reflux gastritis.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88426973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ameloblastomas are of the following types namely peripheral, solid or multicystic, unicystic, desmoplastic, and malignant (1,2). Unicystic ameloblastoma is a rare variant of ameloblastoma and accounts for around 6% of all ameloblastomas (1). Clinically and radiographically, it resembles a cyst but on histopathological examination has features of ameloblastoma (1). Cases with multilocular radiolucency and histopathology of unicystic ameloblastomas were earlier termed as cystic ameloblastomas. However, this term is no longer used; instead, the lesions are termed as unicystic ameloblastoma (1). The present case describes unicystic ameloblastoma of the posterior mandible in a 42 years old male patient. A 42 years-old-male reported to our department with complaint of pain in the lower left back tooth region last 15 days. He gave history of a fall two weeks previously followed by continuous, throbbing, diffuse pain in the area of the lower jaw and on the right side of the face, radiating till the right ear. There was mild swelling and difficulty in eating and wide opening of the mouth. He consulted a dental practitioner who prescribed antibiotics and advised a panoramic radiograph. Panoramic radiograph showed a welldefined radiolucent lesion approximately 2x4 cms in size located distal to the mandibular left third molar. He was then referred to our institution.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82162366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most common spinal dysraphism is tethered cord syndrome (TCS). In this study, patients who had been diagnosed with TCS in the past 5 years were retrospectively reviewed and clinical, radiological and surgical characteristics of these patients were tried to be revealed. Material and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data about 26 patients with the diagnosis of TCS in our clinic between 20112015. The results of these surgeries were evaluated by age, gender, additional malformations, clinic symptoms, radiological and electrophysiological evaluation. The patient with urological symptoms was additionally performed in urodynamic tests. Results: These 26 cases, 23% were children and 77% were adults. 81% of the patients were male and 19% female. Only 3.8% of the patients were primary TCS, 96.2% of the patients had other malformations. Urine incontinence was found in 19.2% of the patients and orthopedic deformities were found in 7.7% of the patients. Surgical treatment was done to 65% of the patients, and 35% of the patients were followed because they didn’t want to be operated.
