Whereas, complication rate of the peptic ulcer, such as perforations or bleedings have not reduced significantly yet. The aim of the current study is to analysis the surgical treatment outcomes of our experience in 86 patients with peptic ulcer perforation. Material and methods: Between January 2012 and December 2017, 86 patients who were operated emergently for perforated peptic ulcer disease with GrahamÂ’s omental patch procedure in our hospital were included in this study. Demographic, clinical data, diagnostic studies, surgical procedures, operative findings, postoperative complications and patient follow-up were analyzed. Results: The mean age was (41.57±16.09) years. Out of 86 cases there were 65 (75.6%) male patients and 21 (24.4%) female patients. The mean operation time was 66.98±18.61 minutes. The mean hospital stay period was 7.95±2.02. In three months follow- up period, endoscopy was done to all of these patients and peptic ulcer disease was not seen in any of them. Conclusion: Our findings revealed that GrahamÂ’s omental patch repair is still a useful method for perforated peptic ulcer disease. Low complication rates, low duration of hospital stay and also low postoperative morbidity can be achieved with good preoperative and postoperative supportive care in open surgery for peptic ulcer perforation. Laparoscopic surgery should be performed only in the presence of experienced surgeon and also in the presence of sufficient laparoscopic materials.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":"6 1","pages":"1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84079487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It affects both growth and mental motor development. Iron decrease then irons deficiency (ID) occurs during the developing of IDA. In the literature, there is no information about ultrasonography (US) and Doppler US findings in the development of IDA. The aim of this study is to search the US and Doppler US findings of liver, spleen and main vascular structures of children with the iron decrease, ID, and IDA. Material and Methods: This study including 160 patients who have the iron decrease (n=43), ID (n=52), and IDA (n=65) in laboratory findings. The control group was 50 children. The liver and spleen sizes with parenchymal echogenicity, CCA Vmax -Vmin, ICA Vmax -Vmin, their pulsatility (PI) and resistive index (RI) were measured. Results: 23 patients (35%) were diagnosed with hepatomegaly and 8 patients (12%) were diagnosed with splenomegaly having IDA. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of CCA Vmax -Vmin, ICA Vmax -Vmin, and also RI PI index of CCA with ICA (p<0.05). Conclusion: Hepatomegaly and splenomegaly can be seen in IDA. Increasing of anemia cause changes in the vascular flow velocities, and also increase the blood volume of the brain. In this study, we evaluated clinic-pathologic features and short-term surgical results in obese and non-obese patients with rectal cancer. Material and Methods: 54 obese and 326 non-obese patients are evaluated for clinic-pathological features, postoperative complications, re-operation rates and mortality rates. Results: The rate of distally located rectal tumor is found significantly higher in obese patients than non-obese patients (p<0.05). Although anterior resection has been performed more commonly in Group-I, abdominoperineal resection procedure is found significantly higher in Group-II, (p<0.05)..Harvested lymph nodes ratio between two groups was quite close to each other so this difference is not statistically significant. .Postoperative results were similar between the groups except total postoperative complications and re-operations for anastomotic leak. Although re-operation rates for anastomotic leak are found different, they are quite close between the two groups and this difference is not statistically significant. In contrast to some of the previously published articles, there was not any significant difference in morbidity and mortality between the two groups in our study. Conclusion: In our opinion there is not a clear conclusion to change the operative strategy for enough number of harvested lymph nodes but meticulous technique should be utilized to reduce the rate of anastomotic leak and resultant re-operations in this group of patients.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":"107 1","pages":"1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80800575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The high rate of dubiousness in diagnosis, high rate of negative appendectomy led to the introduction of scoring systems. Despite today’s advanced imaging methods and various scoring methods like Alvarado, making the diagnosis may not always be easy. On the other hand, negative appendectomy rate is reported to be 15-30%. Therefore accurate and rapid diagnosis is fundamental in acute appendicitis. In our study we aimed to determine the place of scoring systems defined by Alvarado, Ohmann and Eskelinen for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis and their efficacy in lowering negative appendectomy rates. Material and Methods: In our study, 120 patients who were operated as a result of diagnosis of acute appendicitis between May-2011 and July-2011 were retrospectively evaluated. Patients’ Alvarado, Ohmann and Eskelinen scores were calculated for evaluation. Result: It was seen that there was a statistically significant between high Alvarado and Ohmann scores and pathological acute appendicitis. Considering Eskelinen score, significant difference could not be determined. Discussion: In conclusion, Alvarado, Ohmann and Eskelinen scoring systems were evaluated with regard to acute appendicitis and found a meaningful relationship between Alvarado and Ohmann scoring systems and the acute appendicitisit is thought that the use of the scoring system especially for children and the elder would decrease negative appendectomy and perforations. In addition, its coefficients which create a calculation difficulty in practical use limit the use of this scoring system in emergencies which work intensively.","PeriodicalId":17427,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Turgut Ozal Medical Center","volume":"14 1","pages":"1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75619334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
