Data regarding the effectiveness and safety were analysed.RESULTSIn total, 211 MF patients were enrolled (males, 68.3%) with a median (IQR) age of diagnosis at 68.3 (56-75) years. Late-stage (IIB-IVB) disease was present in 124 patients (59.3%). MTX monotherapy was administered to 112 (53.1%) patients, with 99 receiving combination regimens with phototherapy, interferon and retinoids. MTX was used as first-line regimen in 103 (48.9%) cases. An overall response rate (ORR) of 55.5% was observed with 29.9% of patients achieving complete responses. MTX demonstrated greater effectiveness as a first-line treatment compared to subsequent use with no significant differences between monotherapy and combination therapy. The median time to best response was 3.8 months (IQR 2.3-9.9 months). Patients with erythrodermic disease (Stage III) had better ORRs compared to patients with tumour stage disease (Stage II) (61.1% vs. 44.8% respectively). The progression-free survival (PFS) varied according to stage, with a median PFS of 17.1 months for early-stage disease, 5.7 months for Stage IIB disease, 46 months for Stage III and 9.6 months for Stage IV disease (0.7-.). Serious adverse (Grade 3) events leading to treatment discontinuation occurred in 14 (6.7%) cases. All patients received oral MTX once weekly with a median weekly dose of 15 mg/week (7.5-25).CONCLUSIONOur findings support MTX as a viable treatment option for MF, particularly when used in the first-line setting, offering a favourable benefit/risk profile. Response rates are stage-dependent, with erythrodermic patients achieving superior and durable responses.","PeriodicalId":17351,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":9.2,"publicationDate":"2024-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142262237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this review, we outline the BP disease course, diagnosis, epidemiology and comorbidities, and describe tools commonly used to assess BP disease activity and severity and the impact of BP on health-related quality of life. We also outline biologic treatments currently under investigation for the treatment of BP and highlight the importance of considering safety when treating elderly patients.","PeriodicalId":17351,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology","volume":"50 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":9.2,"publicationDate":"2024-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142262238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We included birth cohorts from 1982 to 1988 and compared those with and without acne identified using hospital diagnosis codes and redeemed prescriptions. Our main educational outcome was educational attainment. The main labour market outcomes were earned income at age 30 and long‐term unemployment at any time before age 30. The main relationship outcomes were single partnership and childlessness by age 30. Outcomes were assessed using Poisson regression for binary outcomes and linear regression for continuous outcomes, adjusted for sex, calendar year, mother's socio‐economic position and hormonal contraception use.ResultsThose with acne had a lower risk of not completing upper secondary education (relative risk (RR): 0.79; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.76–0.83) and higher education (RR: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.88–0.91), with absolute differences up to 4 percentage points. Persons with acne had slightly higher income (mean percentile difference: 2.6%, 95% CI: 2.2–2.9) and lower risk of long‐term unemployment than those without acne (9.8% vs. 11.4%; RR: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.87–0.93). The prevalence of being single until age 30 was similar (19.7% vs. 20.1%; adjusted RR: 0.96; 95% CI: 0.94–0.98) but childlessness was slightly more prevalent (60.5% vs. 57.5%; adjusted RR: 1.03; 95% CI: 1.02–1.04). However, all associations were attenuated or lost in secondary analysis restricted to exposure‐discordant siblings to address confounding from family‐related factors.ConclusionsAcne during adolescence does not seem to affect long‐term educational, labour market or relationship outcomes. However, there is a need for additional studies to validate the findings in untreated patients and different health and social systems.","PeriodicalId":17351,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":9.2,"publicationDate":"2024-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142262247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
