MATERIALS: This experiment was carried out at Medical Imaging Centre of the Affiliated Hospital, Weifang Medical University from February 2002 to September 2008. Eighty-one patients with histopathology proved advanced gastric carcinoma (seventy-two cases adenocarcinoma, five cases signet-ring cell carcinoma, three cases mucinous adenocarcinoma, and one case carcinoid) were included. METHODS: PV-9000 immunohistochemical staining was used to investigate the expression of VEGF and VEGF-C in all the specimens. The antibody against factor VIII-related antigen was used to display vascular endothelial cells, and MVD was examined by counting the factor VIII-positive vascular endothelial cells. RESULTS: The positive rates of VEGF and VEGF-C expression in 81 cases were 74.1% (60/81) and 64.2% (52/81) respectively, and the MVD averaged 60.86±23.48. The positive rates of VEGF and VEGF-C expression in the PGC were 78.6% (33/42) and 69.0% (29/42) respectively, and the MVD averaged 60.45±23.45. The positive rates of VEGF and VEGF-C expression in the MGC/DGC were 69.2% (27/39) and 59.0% (23/39) respectively, and the MVD averaged 62.23±23.48. The TNM staging difference was significantly between the PGC and the MGC/DGC (P<0.05). Histologic differentiated had no difference between the PGC and the MGC/DGC (P>0.05). The gastric bare area (GBA) involved was common in the PGC than the MGC/DGC (P<0.05). The averaged MVD, the expression of VEGF and VEGF-C had no difference between the PGC and the MGC/DGC (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The prognostic difference of PGC, MGC and DGC may be not related to the different expression of the MVD, VEGF, VEGF-C.","PeriodicalId":170838,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on IT in Medicine and Education","volume":"07 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127141469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a key role on osteogenesis, cbfa1 regulates its downstream genes by binding to the target DNA or forming a ternary complex in which pRb binds p204 to cbfa1. p204 is also identified as an important regulator in modulating cell proliferation, cell cycling, skeletogenesis and so on. Exogenous p204 and cbfa1 were introduced into zebrafish embryos to study their effects on skeleton development in vivo. The results showed that p204 and cbfa1 were expressed throughout the whole embryo at early embryogenesis stages, then their expression decreased gradually and focused on ventral cells and retina capsules. Malformations and differentiation of cartilage were induced by foreign p204 and cbfa1 injection, and the top level of malformation rate was induced by p204&cbfa1 double injection. Moreover, the expression of three genes (osx, tcf7 and vent) involved in osteogenesis and dorsoventral patterning were significantly upregulated after injection. Similar with the malformation rate, the top expression level of the three genes is also caused by double injection. The results of acid-free double staining showed that endochondral ossification was more obviously affected by p204&cbfa1 injection compared with other injection groups. This study showed that p204 and cbfa1 have the synergistic effect on osteogenesis and dorsoventral patterning, not only in vitro, but also in zebrafish embryogenesis.","PeriodicalId":170838,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on IT in Medicine and Education","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125170089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods The protein patterns of 47 salivary specimens (26 cases of liver-qi stagnation of breast cancer, 21 cases of liver-kidney yin deficiency of breast cancer) were examined with SELDI-TOF-MS to establish a TCM syndrome diagnosis model for breast cancer. Results 243 protein peaks were detected in the specimens, 33 of which showed significant difference between the two groups. The liver-qi stagnation syndrome and the liver-kidney yin deficiency syndrome of breast cancer could be correctly distinguished by the diagnostic model comprised of two proteins with M/Z of 8087.575 and 3378.142 Da, respectively; 25 out of the 26 cases of liver-qi stagnation syndrome was correctly diagnosed, and all the 21 cases of liver-kidney yin deficiency were correctly excluded; the sensitivity reached 96.15% (25/26) and the specificity was 80.95%(17/21). Conclusion The salivary protein fingerprint model for TCM syndrome differentiation established with SELDI-TOF-MS provided a highly specific, sensitive new method that is worth further study and application.","PeriodicalId":170838,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on IT in Medicine and Education","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125568782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In mammography, low dose x-ray is used for imaging, due to which the images are poor in contrast and are contaminated by noise. Hence it is difficult for the radiologist to screen the mammograms for diagnostic signs such as micro calcifications and masses. This ensures the need for image enhancement to aid radiologist. In this paper we present a different algorithm for enhancement of digital mammographic images. The proposed methodology uses mathematical morphology for contrast enhancement and wavelet for denoising. The main contribution of this paper is in differentiating the edge pixels from noise. A quantitative measure of Contrast Improvement Index (CII) and Edge Preservation Index (EPI) are used to evaluate the performance of the algorithm. The algorithm has been tested on a large number of images from standard dataset, comparing the results with the state-of-the- art. By both the analytical indices and ROC analysis, the proposed algorithm shows promising results in early detection of breast cancer and diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":170838,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on IT in Medicine and Education","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122581576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
