As a result, integrated planning (IP) is gradually appearing as a novel approach to resolving some of the challenges associated with traditional work planning practices. The IP aims at achieving desired planning goals through more effective and efficient coordination of multi-disciplinary planning tasks under various limitations and constraints involving a systematic and a well-defined process. This paper presents a benchmarking portal together with a pilot framework of IP, based on the field data collected through a case study performed in Norway and China. This aimed at the definition of comprehensive details of the IP process for systematic follow up, the development of a mechanism to periodically evaluate the current status and find gaps in the existing IP process, and the development of means to prioritise the important tasks in continuity with the IP development and implementation process.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126476439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two possible alternatives considered are: imperfect maintenance and replacement. The maintenance model incorporates both the corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance actions. GA search heuristic is used to optimise the choice of maintenance or replacement to achieve the minimum cost with target reliability. The model is evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation in terms of present value of the cost. The flexibility of the Monte Carlo method allows the inclusion of several practical aspects such as deteriorating repairs, aging and service variations. This study is carried out in the raw-mill section of a cement industry in Tamil Nadu, India.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"329 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125785601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus of this new approach is on development of new systems, by selecting and assembling a set of COTS components. One of the critical problems in this approach is how to handle selection of COTS components from the available pool of alternatives in an effective manner. In this paper, an integrated decision approach for COTS selection is proposed. An illustrative example is also given to describe the utility and dimension of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127763372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Construction time is a basis for evaluating the success of a project and the efficiency of the project organisation. The study was limited to views expressed by registered members of the CIOB-South Africa in the Gauteng Province. The data was analysed using multi-attribute methods, content analysis and bi-variate analysis, involving rank order correlation tests. The findings of the study reveal the appropriateness of time management techniques as used by practitioners in scheduling various projects, prioritised or key constraints to effective time management, and ways of improving on-time project delivery. These findings will benefit the key role players in project development namely; clients, consultants and contractors in effective time management policy formulation and implementation.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129448557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The economic pressures, changing business dimensions further create pressures on organisations to find ways of handling the crisis situations. In such a situation, human dimensions of crises management gain utmost importance. This paper seeks to study and provide an insight into the human dimensions relating to crisis preparedness in the context of the banking sector. Using qualitative and quantitative research tools, 11 such human variables were identified for better crisis preparedness. ISM-based approach was adapted to model such variables for effective and efficient crisis management in banking the sector. The results present a model showing a path for attaining excellent crisis preparedness in the contexts of banks.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114829097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increase of the influence of the service industry on the economy causes more and more firms to be sensitised to service and service management. As one of the businesses, bank branches have a pioneering role in the service sector. Therefore, analysis of bank branches efficiency is important for investors, creditors, business partners and the government. But due to locating in different environments, bank branches have different performance form each other. A part of this difference is caused by non-discretionary environmental factors such as population density. These factors are not controllable by the branch manager. With respect to the importance of the problem, this research applies fuzzy logic for evaluating bank branches efficiency in order to consider the environmental variables with imprecise data.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127516453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is clear that the spatial variability of components and impacts is inherently connected to the process of site selection. The present research initially aims to provide decision-makers with a spatial methodology for the early stages of planning when a number of alternative locations are considered. Geographical information systems (GIS) are being used which can serve as a platform providing to all parties involved in such a process with thematic maps excluding areas unsuitable for SWML. The methodology further assists the decision making at the later stages of planning, when the subjectivity of factors assigned by both planners and consultants is being tested. The methodology allows the sensitivity of the apparent 'best' option to the allocation of weightings to be explored criticising eventually the outcome of conducted studies. Although European legislations have been taken into consideration, the principal motivation of the present research is to examine how the proposed methodology relates to current Greek procedures for siting a SWM landfill. The application of the methodology is illustrated using a case study which is a SWM landfill in West Attica, Greece.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128897147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The protocol relies on two distinct authorities for the secure gathering of data and makes use of a token for each database record, making unencrypted data accessible only to the system participants. The protocol is suitable for decision support systems among non-mutually trusted parties as it protects the anonymity and privacy of the parties by dissociating the data from their origin and protects both the validity of the data sent by each party and the system by intruders and malicious participants.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133995695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
