This period was extremely difficult for the country with financial depression that led to irrevocable credibility, trust and reliability problems. Recognising the importance that ICT can have to the economy of a whole country, it was decided to analyse the impact the financial crisis can have to the commercial performance of this important industry. The analysis was carried out for the 16 listed companies in the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) and included a strategic evaluation of the macro and micro business environment and the determination of commercial performance based on both the reported financial results of the companies and the views of experienced practitioners of the industry. The analysis performed revealed that the IT industry experienced crisis in all sectors (hardware, software and services) but despite the unfavourable conditions and the general negative climate, it has demonstrated remarkable resilience. The companies that survived during the crisis period learned from the problematic practices of the past, improved their operating business models, focused on more profitable initiatives and demonstrated extroversion, leading to an optimistic forecast for the future performance of the sector.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133006977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We find that the buyer-initiated trades in upstairs market have a positive temporary impact on the main market which confirms the liquidity hypotheses. The Tunisian market is found to react positively after the block initiated by a seller, which is not unexpected. This reaction can be explained by the visibility hypothesis initially developed by Miller (1977) who argues that a volume shock increases the probability that an investor is interested in buying this stock especially when short selling is limited or prohibited. We also think that some Tunisian investors (individual small shareholders) react regardless of the direction of the block transaction, showing a naive behaviour. Our results reject the information hypothesis suggesting that the upstairs brokers have the informational advantage about unexpressed demand and thus the market can absorb large block trades (Grossman, 1992). Then, we highlight the information leakage dealing with block trades according to the position of block brokers (application negotiation or construction pools of counterparts).","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123985055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper reports on an econometric model of three demographic variables (age dependency ratio, ageing ratio and fertility ratio) and five fiscal variables (debt to GDP ratio, total expenditure to GDP ratio, total revenue to GDP ratio, social benefits to GDP ratio, and the social contributions to GDP ratio). The main empirical evidence supported by other research studies suggests that there is a relationship between demographic changes and public finance. Considering the current situation of the demographic changes as well as the predictions, one can conclude that actions and reforms are needed to address the problems that arise from the ageing of the population in Greece.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126927284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The primary purpose of this study is to examine the use of social media (SM) among hotel firms, the role of organisational characteristics in SM adoption, and then the impact of SM adoption level on hotel performance outcomes. Using a sample of 60 small and mid-sized hotels located in Crete Island, Greece, we collected data through a questionnaire designed for hotel managers. The findings revealed that hotels are increasingly adopting social media. The results also indicated that the degree of previous experience and the satisfaction from the use of SM are highly related to SM adoption, while hotel size and hotel rating do not have a significant effect on social media adoption. Also, the adoption level of social media is an effective determinant of performance benefits. Managerial implications are being provided for tourism marketing and for hoteliers who want to adopt social media marketing tools.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126065051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The assembly of rotors is a very critical process and risk assessment method is crucial to ensure operation safety. The application of the method revealed that the most significant risks are related to software malfunction, program failure, system function failure and poor integration of hardware and software. The paper proposes responses to these risks aiming at preventing the occurrence of failure. The analysis put forward here may be an invaluable source for maintenance professionals, safety engineers and decision makers in companies, in the sense that it augments their information and helps to identify critical risks in the rotor assembly process. The identification and prioritisation of risk factor makes it easier to allocate resources to prevent rotor failure and improve product quality and ensure organisation sustainability.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130009219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, to the best of our knowledge, a risk analysis of Chinese vertical integration in tourist businesses has received a rather limited research attention. The purpose of this paper is to investigate Chinese investment in the Greek tourism sector via a multiple dimensional risk analysis involving economic, environmental, social and cultural risks that could be possibly faced by prospective Chinese tourism investors in Greece. This paper will help Chinese public agents in reducing asymmetric information associated with an expansion in Greek tourism market.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132620062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The gradual reforms of the Chinese economy starting from the late 70s until the country's accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001 triggered an unprecedented growth of all sectors of the shipping industry, with the dry bulk sector being in the epicentre of the trading boom. China became one of the main driving forces of the demand and supply of ship transportation. An econometric model has been developed to test the validity of the theoretical analysis. Through a multiple regression model, a series of Chinese economy-related variables, potential drivers of the demand and supply of ship transportation, have been estimated as to their effect on the dry bulk market earnings using the OLS technique. Six of these factors, including the Chinese industrial production growth, the Chinese dry bulk seaborne imports, the Chinese-owned dry bulk fleet and the Chinese shipyards' output, are proved to be statistically significant determinants of the dry bulk vessels' earnings. The evaluation of the regression results provides sufficient comfort in relation to the validity of the conclusions.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121397716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Greek Airport Network is mainly a public organisational system, with the most important part of it currently transformed into a privately operated subsystem. The present work aims to assess the Greek public airports' efficiency, operated by Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) for the years 2009-2014. The technical efficiency is estimated in a relative manner using the non-parametric method of data envelopment analysis (DEA), establishing which airports operate relative efficiently and which are inefficient. Airports are assessed as uniform production and decision making units (DMUs) and additionally with respect to the two well recognised and defined, airside and landside processes. Particular emphasis is given on weighing the relative importance of inputs and outputs, whilst focusing on the efficiency improvement through output maximisation efforts.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121427907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a descriptive and analytical research analysis based on primary data collected using a questionnaire. The sample comprises 190 managers of all types of 'IT and communications Greek enterprises' (SEPE), from small to multinational ones. The sample was analysed to investigate whether coaching is significant as a process to the administrative role of managers. The results indicated that managers have a clear perception of coaching though they do not trust the process as far as it concerns how beneficiary as a process is. They found it quite challenging to insert coaching as a process to the companies they work in though they recognised that it is all about lack of knowledge to use this tool correctly. So, it appears that coaching is very effectual and well known in Western countries, Greek organisations, companies and smaller businesses. But its use is somewhat limited or non-existent.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116215783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
