The results were mainly based on the statistical analysis of relative data gathered from an empirical survey conducted in civil, criminal and administrative courts of Thessaloniki, among citizens and judicial officials. Serious differentiations have been reported in different segments and also in different courts and respondents type. Interesting findings and figures also came out of the data gathered from administrative records regarding human recourses and the adoption and usage of information and communication technologies. The main results of this research point out the need for a reform in the Greek judicial system in accordance with the key dimensions of the new public management.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124876768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, it determines the overall degree of job satisfaction among call centre employees presents the level of motivators - hygiene factors provided by call centre companies and finally describes the relationship between motivators - hygiene factors and job satisfaction. Given the virtual absence of research on job satisfaction and motivation in call centres in Greece, this paper aims to fill this gap. In addition to the theoretical importance, this research has practical relevance. In a stressful working environment like call centres, identifying the factors that contribute to job satisfaction can help companies achieve higher productivity, lower staff turnover and simultaneously satisfy their employees.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117307957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lately, companies have realised that the only asset that cannot be imitated is the employees. Consequently HR is expected to contribute, more now than ever before, towards achieving a sustainable competitive advantage. To that end, more and more companies have adopted Ulrich's model or 'the three legged stool', as the latter has been named after the use of three main pillars that depict the roles of the model. This study analyses the successful adoption of the model by a Romanian bank. It describes the process and highlights possible best practices by providing a process-map and encapsulating some thorny issues raised during the process of change.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"10 27","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114044285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this paper is to investigate how focus on human resources (HR), especially in a service environment, affects quality management system (QMS) implementation through ISO 9001 certification, towards the goal of attaining continuous quality improvement. The research was undertaken in the form of multiple case studies at five service-oriented ISO 9001 certified companies pertaining to different business sectors. The results obtained suggest that when a company exhibits limited focus on people, alongside a downgraded view of the HR department in the organisational structure, all quality initiatives are likely to serve as an end-point towards certification. As such, the companies bearing these features cannot reap the benefits that a successful QMS implementation could potentially offer in the long run. On the other hand, a broad focus on people, combined with a strategic orientation of the HR department, is expected to drive the companies at issue towards real quality. As such, ISO 9001 certification can be an actual driver of continuous quality improvement.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132210538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SDOE has carried out audits on freelancers, companies and individuals, using data from the bank accounts of the audited persons or legal entities. The results of these audits are significant, both numerically and qualitatively. This paper analyses data and results from a field survey, measuring the contribution of human resources and their management towards the achievement of these results. The progress observed so far is also documented, and proposals to further improve the efficacy of tax audits are made along with a proposal to reform the tax system.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126818342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consumers are no longer passive receivers but actively participate in the marketing and buying process. On the other hand, although companies need to adjust to the new market rules in order to gain competitive advantage, many of them are unable to comprehend social media's broad environment and evaluate its effective use as a marketing tool. This paper aims to conceptualise the integration of social media into the marketing process focusing on the Greek business field, through the conduction of a quantitative online survey research. The main findings indicate that Greek companies acknowledge its importance as a marketing tool while indicating that the main benefits are the increase of exposure and sales' improvement. Among those companies that do not use social media, a significant number show eagerness in incorporating it into their marketing strategies in the near future. Almost half of the respondents seem to follow a certain social media strategy, a significant number use a distinct budget for social media, while only a small number of companies were able to measure its usefulness and return of investment.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133458813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, genetic algorithms have been used in the literature for a vast range of optimisation problems ranging from electromagnetic optimisation to mechanical design, industrial control and genetic engineering. In this work, we propose to use the former in predicting future values of a time-series of particular interest, i.e., the future values of stock market indices. Based on a large body of work that is present in the literature, we develop, test and present a set of neural networks for predicting future stock market index values. Furthermore, we evaluate the use of modified GAs as a stand-alone tool for prediction, but also the use of GAs as neural network training and optimising tools. We also test two benchmark time-series extrapolation techniques based on linear regression. The proposed stock market prediction tools are fine-tuned and applied to a number of stock market index time-series and numerical results are presented demonstrating their superiority compared to standard benchmark techniques.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121200936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It focuses on online booking and the behaviour of Greek tourists. It is an attempt to detect the level of consumers' involvement with OCRs, primarily by measuring the effect of OCRs on their perception and by examining their attitude towards the management of OCRs by the hotel administration. Although findings are drawn from a small sample and cannot be extrapolated to the whole population, the findings combined with the literature review, proffer useful insights and lay foundations for a larger research project. Analysis suggests 'clarity in reviews' as being the most important factor for tourists. They are highly affected by negative reviews, especially when these are related to accommodation cleanliness. Moreover, although hotel management's responses to reviews are considered important, their absence does not affect the tourists' level of involvement.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"19 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113975153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The valuation method applied is the discounted free cash flow to the firm. The method's inputs were decided by comparing the firms' financial ratios to the industry's for a limited period of time (time series and cross-sectional analysis), as part of the strategic analysis. The models applied in the strategic analysis are the Boston Consulting Group Matrix and the Strategic Group Map Analysis. For the calculation of the discount rate, the capital asset pricing model is used. A combination of both the capital asset pricing model and the discounted cash flow to the firm is used in the valuation of synergy. Finally, the results reveal that both firms are divesting wealth instead of creating it. We also demonstrate that synergy value does exist in the merger; however the fiscal and financial conditions under which the Greek aquaculture firms operate may prevent them from surviving the competition in the long run.","PeriodicalId":170104,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133132003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
