Modeling methodologies for mixed signal chips can be distinguished by the way they deal with analog signals. The methodology uses a custom Verilog PLI function to model analog blocks for a digital simulator. The PLI function passes multiple real numbers through one port, in either direction, at any point in time. The key issues the methodology addresses are execution speed, capacity, model portability, and coverage.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123065614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The entire CAN physical layer is simulated by using behavior modeling language (VHDL-AMS) in comparison to measurement. The modeling of measurement environment of the CAN network is discussed, showing how to get the measurement and simulation results well matched. This demonstrates that the simulation solution is reliable, which is highly desired and very important for the verification requirement in CAN physical layer design. With the developed CAN measurement system, application layer is also proven working properly when implementing different non-standard topologies at high speed transmission rate.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125251375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the digital part verification has gained a speed increase through the use of Accllera's Property Specification Language (PSL), the analog part suffers from not being supported by this language. To speed up the verification of the analog part innovation is needed. Based on assertion concepts, this paper presents an innovative methodology for the verification of mixed-signal circuits. Electrical validation of a sensor amplifier design serves aas demonstrator for this methodology.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129624490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The event driven analog modeling approach uses the double precision data type wreal (supported by VerilogAMS), that enables analog accuracy in the digital simulation domain. It is therefore possible to separate high frequency signal paths in the frequency synthesizers from the analog domain, in order to archive higher simulation efficiency for fast verification purposes. The modeling approach and an investigation of the necessary accuracy requirements for the verification including phase noise performances of the analog frequency synthesizers is presented. The proposed approach is demonstrated on baseof a sub micron CMOS Fractional-N frequency synthesizer and compared with different traditional modeling approaches, like phase model and pure digital model. The paper concludes with a proposal of a verification approach for RF mixed signal systems.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122237170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We focus on short circuit events in an automotive environment where high power dissipation and thermal stress severely affect device reliability. For accurate temperature calculation, a non-linear thermal network including coupling between power transistor channels is used. A digital strategy for over current limitation, short circuit detection and over-temperature shutdown is modeled using SystemC-AMS and verified experimentally using a hardware-in-the-loop system.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115288685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The device used to validate the model is Texas Instruments' ADS6129; a 12-bit, 250 MSPS1 pipelined ADC. The performance of the model is measured using single tones in the first Nyquist zone, with an amplitude ranging between −1 dBFS2 and −46 dBFS. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and Spurious Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) are used as metrics to compare the performance of the model to the actual ADC. The results indicate that a model for High Code Frequency (HCF) INL is essential for correct prediction of distortion for input signals with small amplitudes. The results also suggest that dynamic INL models offer an effective method to model the distortion in ADCs until Nyquist frequency only. Beyond Nyquist frequency, the non-linear effects of Track and Hold (T/H) start manifesting and the INL model can no longer account for all the distortion seen at the output of ADCs.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134604386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike previous behavioural models, this model incorporates the non-linear electro-mechanical relation of the CMUT. VHDL-AMS was chosen for the ease with which it can be used to implement these relations, and for its portability between software platforms. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported VHDL-AMS model of a CMUT. The simulation results demonstrate that the model can be used to sumulate a number of scenarios, including frequency responses, time responses and effects of DC bias voltage. Results are compared to a finite element method model, and show excellent agreement in resonant frequency and a 16% error in pull-in voltage.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129729785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An FPRA combines CMOS reprogrammable logic with micro-robots having constrained motion and sensing capabilities. The goal of the FPRAs is to build digital-logic structures by physical motion as well as the electronic reconfiguration (commonly used in prior programmable logic). In this paper, we present the development of a circuit for powering the digital logic portion of FPRAs. We assume for physical motion the FPRA uses MEMS-based scratch drive actuator (SDA) micro-robots like those developed by Donald et al. [2] as a foundation to build other features needed to develop FPRA. We validate this by developing Verilog-A model of an electrostatic actuator and simulating in Cadence AMS (Analog Mixed Signal) environment.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116202984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As both trends increase design complexity and concurrently make the outcome of manufacturing processes less predictable, manufacturing yield is potentially endangered. As a countermeasure, new methodologies for the simulation of mixed-signal-circuits are required. In this paper, we describe a new simulation kernel for the previously presented PRAISE methodology. It accelerates the transient simulation of analog mixed-signal systems by generating and employing abstract circuit models during runtime. We apply the methodology to wire models and discuss results and runtime behavior of different implementations. Furthermore, we present an automated XML-based approach at interfacing PRAISE with arbitrary simulation environments using SystemC.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129666959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, all variables and parameters of the system model need to be annotated with their measurement units in such a way that they become intrinsic part of the data type. This enforces correct model assembly through strict interfaces and coherent formulas describing the analog behavior by means of dimensional analysis. A library of generic block diagram components has been developed to demonstrate how both requirements can be met using the Boost libraries together with SystemC-AMS. The demonstrated implementation techniques are the key to integrate new Models of Computation (MoCs) into SystemC-AMS to facilitate further the description of multi-domain systems.","PeriodicalId":169567,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Behavioral Modeling and Simulation Workshop","volume":"363 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115975747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
