These three well-known and analyzed systems ensure the stability of the cable-stayed bridges in a variety\u0000of conditions. In order to reduce the amount of materials various solutions are used. One way to reduce the cost of steel\u0000may be a new, innovative structural form. A new cable-stayed bridge structure, which requires smaller quantities of\u0000materials, is proposed in this Paper. New structural form is compared with traditional cable-stayed structures and the\u0000conclusions, which reflect the advantages of this construction, are presented. Result of the analysis is evaluation of\u0000innovative cable-stayed structure bending moments, axial forces, deflections and non-linear behavior compared with\u0000traditional cable-stayed structure under the influence of both symmetric as asymmetric loads. Technical-economical\u0000assessment is also proposed in the Paper. The Paper gives an overview of the differences between traditional and innovative design of cable-stayed bridges.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

Non-linear analysis and design equations from the relevant\u0000codes of practise are used for the prediction of the punching resistance of flat slab specimens supported by the rectangular columns with different ratio h/d of the column’s cross-section. The non-linear models were calibrated using experimental results from the laboratory tests. The main goal of the study is an investigation of the effect of the openings\u0000on the punching capacity and as well as testing accuracy of the design equations for the prediction of the punching\u0000resistance. Several methods for the reduction of the control perimeter length accounting for presence of the openings\u0000were tested in order to find the most general method for the estimation of the punching capacity. However, standard\u0000methods introduced in the relevant codes of practise provide very inconsistent results concerning of the model’s safety\u0000for different position of the openings as well as for different cross-section of the columns. Therefore modification of the\u0000methods was proposed and verified using obtained results.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

The main reason for\u0000unexpected wide cracks in foundation slabs is restraint due to development and discharge of hydration heat, shrinkage\u0000and climatic actions. The amount of restraint is dependent on friction forces between the lower side of the foundation\u0000slab and the substructure. Friction coefficient is influenced by the properties of the sliding layer that is in many cases\u0000provided by two layers of PE foil.\u0000In various normative regulations and design recommendations there are proposals for mean values of friction coefficients in the context of design of foundation slabs. Because these friction coefficients strongly differ even for comparable\u0000sliding layers an experimental investigation has been carried out aiming on better understanding of the friction behavior\u0000between foundation slabs and substructure. The paper describes the test program and reports the investigated friction\u0000coefficients.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

Thus, it has\u0000to be timely repaired and reconstructed. However, any interruption to traffic by implementing repair and rehabilitation\u0000works leads to user’s discomfort and traffic congestion. Modular pavements also known as precast concrete pavements\u0000can be constructed at night, consequently they eliminate or reduce traffic flow limitation related to repair works. They\u0000consist of prefabricated concrete slabs that are transported to the construction site only after the curing period when the\u0000desirable concrete strength is achieved and installed on a prepared foundation. Slabs prefabrication in a plant results in\u0000better concrete quality, controlled concrete curing conditions, wider period for pavement construction, reduced time\u0000before opening to traffic, elimination of early-age failures and material segregation which may occur during concrete or\u0000asphalt mixture transportation to the project site and laying. Despite these advantageous, modular pavements are barely\u0000used in Europe. In order to enhance the usage of modular pavements in Europe, paper focuses on the identification of\u0000the most promising modular pavements application areas and their type selection. The most promising application areas\u0000such as motorways and arterial streets were identified on the basis of the conducted survey among high qualified researchers. Low volume roads, private roads, bicycle and pedestrian paths could be included as modular pavements\u0000special application areas with slightly different approach.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

The\u0000motion of granular medium is simulated using the discrete element model (DEM). As the drum rotates, the free surface sloping angle changes periodically as it attains the limit repose angle leading to an avalanche, after which its value is reduced to below the repose angle. Systems of this type are of interest from both theoretical and application\u0000viewpoints: similar setups are used in industry, such as rotary kilns and mixers; besides, dynamics of granular matter\u0000leads to macroscopic effects, such as segregation and emergence of patterns. Observable macroscopic effects depend\u0000largely on the underlying structure of force chains arising from pairwise mechanical contacts between the particles.\u0000Discrete element simulations produce the data for each individual particle: position, translational and rotational velocity, force vector between the interacting particle pairs. These data about the microscopic state must be processed to obtain the observable macroscopic states. Particle configurations at each time moment available from DEM simulations\u0000can be represented as graphs: each particle is represented as a graph vertex, the vertex pairs are connected by edges if\u0000the respective particle pairs are in contact, and the edge weights are proportional to the interaction force. After the\u0000graph for a particle state is created, the algorithms of the graph analysis can be applied to analyze the corresponding\u0000state of granular matter. Among such algorithms, we use the community detection algorithms to analyse the emergence of force groups among the particles, i.e., the groups of particles that have stronger mechanical forces among the\u0000particles in the group than the forces with particles that do not belong to the given group. Such groups are structures of\u0000larger scale than the usual force chains. Distribution of group sizes (number of particles belonging to the group) and\u0000their positions depend on the rotation velocities of the drum; in turn, they influence the variation of the repose angle\u0000and the process of the avalanches. We report the relations between the characteristics of the detected force groups and\u0000the observable effects in the granular matter obtained by DEM simulations.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

Reliability of building is the practice of designing, constructing, operating, maintaining and removing buildings in such a way, which\u0000prevents the health deterioration, injuries or death during the use of the building. Evaluation and improvement of existing\u0000buildings becomes more and more substantial. For the most of the existing buildings the design life has been already reached or will be reached in the nearest future.\u0000The structures of these buildings need to be reassessed in order to find out whether the safety requirements are met.\u0000The safety requirements provided by the Eurocodes are starting point for the assessment of reliability. However, it would\u0000be uneconomical to require all existing buildings and structures to fully comply with these new codes and corresponding\u0000reliability levels. Therefore, the assessment of existing buildings differs from design situation. This case study describes the practice of\u0000determination of reliability level of structures of existing public building designed in accordance with different\u0000codes/regulations that differ from Eurocodes. It allows to reassess the actual reliability level of existing buildings under\u0000the operational load. Also, the evaluation methodology of the global reliability level of the whole building in terms of\u0000mechanical strength and stability of building is proposed.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)
