Following aspects were considered – chemical, physical and granulometrical characterization of\u0000historic mortars, as well as the level of soluble salts in the masonry. The chemical and physical properties of the historical\u0000mortars were characterized by visual observation, granulometric analysis, classical wet chemical analysis, XRD, SEM\u0000and hydro tests. The results showed that the historic mortars are based on two types of weakly hydraulic lime – calcitic\u0000and dolomitic – with brick dust additive. The main crystallized salt in the object was KNO3. The aim of the investigation\u0000was to provide compatibility of restoration materials and sustainability of the ancient building.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

However, the culmination of poor air problem noticeably occurs in winter as a result of the need for supplying buildings with a great\u0000amount of heat energy to defy influence of severe climate conditions. One of the most important causes for such situation deals with the application of solid fuel-based heat sources for heating buildings. The widespread burning of cheap\u0000coal in outdated home stoves results in producing smoke rife that includes carcinogens like dioxins and benzo(a)pyrene, as well as the small sooty particles that are strongly linked to heart disease, respiratory diseases and other\u0000sickness. Economical and social reasons make the application of such energy sources popular among single family\u0000house owners. Popularity of single family houses in Polish cities thus makes air pollution problem even more serious.\u0000Therefore, the effectiveness of selected solutions which would hopefully help to limit low pollution emission are discussed in the paper. They correspond well to current Polish government air improvement initiatives towards the improvement of air quality in Polish cities.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

Therefore, one can expect, that the bending strength and other material parameters\u0000depend on the position in the plate. This means that the position the samples for testing are taken from may play a\u0000significant role in assessing the mechanical properties and strength of composite materials. Often, the investigation of\u0000fiber concrete properties have been performed by testing small size beams. The results can be influenced by the boundary\u0000restrictions, such as wall-effect, which influences the fiber distribution. In this study the four-point bending strength of\u0000beams cut out of a large plate was investigated, the results represent the local strength of the plate in this particular place.\u0000The fiber orientation and distribution have been evaluated by X-ray Computed Tomography and Image Analysis\u0000Method. The results of the experiments have shown that the position of the beam inside of a large-size plate has a strong\u0000influence on the mechanical properties and post-cracking behavior. The analysis of the obtained outcomes proposes the\u0000following conclusions: the beams that were located near the edges of the formwork have shown a strong, strain-hardening behavior, and the beams that were located on the way of the casting bucket (a zone of the high turbulence/perturbation/disturbance) have shown a weak, strain-softening behavior.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

Two\u0000methods of the assessment are used: simplified analytical formulations and linear finite element analysis (LFEA). The\u0000obtained results are consequently compared with the test results taken from three experimental campaigns. The analyses show big differences among the results obtained from the simplified analytical methods that are based on the design equations introduced in the relevant standards. The main objective of the probability-oriented sensitivity analysis is structural\u0000reliability. The structural reliability methodology uses random variables as inputs. The subject of interest is the identification\u0000of those random variables that are most important when the limit state of a steel bridge member is reached. The limit state is\u0000defined by the occurrence of brittle fracture, which results from stress changes caused by multiple repeated loads. The propagation of a single-edge crack from initial to critical size is analysed using linear fracture mechanics. The failure probability\u0000and sensitivity indices are calculated using sampling-based methods. The sensitivity indices are estimated using double-nested-loop simulation of the Latin Hypercube Sampling method. New findings indicate that interaction effects among\u0000input variables strongly influence the probability of failure especially at the beginning of the operating period.
The proceedings of the 13th international conference "Modern Building Materials, Structures and Techniques" (MBMST 2019)

Studies worldwide have already investigated modern structural systems for wooden construction. However, the\u0000selection of alternative structural systems is rarely discussed, alternatives are seldom compared. To close a gap this\u0000paper proposes a framework for selection of the structural system for a wooden public building based on a Simple\u0000Additive Weighting (SAW) multiple criteria assessment method. The proposed methodology is applied for the case of\u0000a public wooden building – shopping centre in Lithuania. Three structural systems (1) double tapered glued laminated\u0000beams and columns, (2) laminated veneer lumber (LVL) trusses and columns and (3) single tapered glued laminated\u0000beam and I type steel column are compared. The research allowed distinguishing the most efficient structural system\u0000according to eight conflicting quantitative and qualitative criteria, which, in this case, contains double tapered glued\u0000laminated beams and columns.
