In line with the harmonized view of the Ultimate Limit State verification which is currently developed in the framework of a novel European design standard for membrane structures, a strength modification factor considering ageing effects is proposed to describe the deterioration arising from environmental impacts. The objective of this paper is to broaden the data basis for the long-term behaviour of a typical structural membrane made of PET-PVC material for environmental impacts. In this way, an overview about different data achieved from two practical applications and experimental artificial weathering tests is presented for the destructive effect of weathering on tensile strength of coated woven fabrics. Finally, related weathering-induced ageing modification factors are derived.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132586502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The usage of light-weight girders was advantageous because the girders were erected in the vertical position and rotated into the final horizontal position during the first application of the balanced lowering method. After filling of the girders with in-situ concrete the webs of the bridges were com- pleted. On top of the webs a deck slab was cast using a formwork carriage. While the application of the balanced lowering method permitted a fast construction of the webs, the production of the deck slab with a formwork carriage was a slow process. Therefore a method for the fast production of the deck slab was developed. In this new method precast slab elements, which are stiffened by cross-beams, are placed on top of the webs. This enables a fast construction of post-tensioned con- crete bridges with a plate girder cross-section.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134307524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Designed and installed by Sixense upon the specification of the Client, the system will manage more than 1000 sensors. This monitoring architecture will allow to measure any external event happening on the bridge such as strong, wind, earthquake, lightning, heavy traffic. It will also record all the reaction behavior of the structure such as temperature, displacement, vibration, fatigue stresses. Amongst all the recorded data, dynamic record of such a slender structure is key. The acquisition system provided by Sixense will allow to record, compute, sample, analyses, store and analyse a tremendous quantity of data from all kind of mechanical beaviour of the structure. It will for instance allow rainflow treatment of the stress of the orthotropic slab in order to survey and prevent fatigue failure.But more than simply recording data for visualization and immediate maintenance, the system provided by Sixense will also allow to perform predictive computation of the future behavior of the infrastructure : regression analysis from the available data combined with tuneable environment parameters (temperature, traffic), will allow the owner of the bride to anticipate the behavior of the bridge and plan the maintenance operation far in advance out of critical service activity phases. This will increase the safety of the bridge, save money for the owner and allow this signature bridge to last for a very long time.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133493342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Built in 1988 its length reach 2926m.Unfortunately the viaduct experienced in 2018 a failure of one of its external post tensioning tendon. The Department de la Charente, owner of the bridge asked Sixense and Freyssinet to secure the structure in order to enable the replacement of the broken tendon. This securing operation consisted in 3 phases: Ultrasonic inspection of the cables anchorage zone, installation of acoustic monitoring and finally strapping of the group of cables together.The objective of the ultrasonic inspection is to qualify the current state of degradation of the anchorage. Indeed, the cause and location of cable failure was known to be a few meter behind the anchorage head because of corrosion due to poor injection of cement grout inside the cable duct.Once the current state is qualified, the acoustic monitoring allowed to detect remotely any future failure of wire from the tendons. Any overpassing of the maximum allowed broken wire or any acceleration of failing wire would stop the progress of the cable replacement job.Finally once the way was secured by ultrasonic inspection and equipped with acoustic monitoring, the external post tensioning cables were strapped by group in order to prevent any whipping effect that would hurt the operator in case of cables failure. The quantity, strength, and location of straps has been carefully calculated with dynamic load cases.Thanks to this monitoring securing of 85 anchorages, the broken cable and three additional cables in poor state were replaced between 2019 and 2020 allowing the securing of the whole viaduct.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127741861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their versatility made them desirable in many Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) application. A significant issue with their use is the fact that traditional commercial accelerometers are very expensive. Moreover, the low-cost solutions are not very accurate.To tackle this drawback and to enable low-cost accelerometers applicable to more SHM applications, a novel methodology for improving the resolution of low-cost MEMS accelerometers is presented in this paper. To this end the noise density level of more than one accelerometer was controlled by aligning on the same location for reading the same input wave.The results of the performed laboratory tests showed that the higher the number of aligned accelerometers the lower the reported noise. Aligning a higher number of accelerometers also improve.the system's final resolution in frequency domain diagrams.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121180081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During geopolymerization, only small amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) is generated and reinforcing it with banana fibers (BFs) made the matrix compact and more earth-friendly. BFs treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) enhanced its surface roughness and significantly increased its tensile properties. Design of experiment (DOE) with 13 design mixtures are aimed to obtain the highest value of compressive strength. Factors considered in the DOE are the silica fume (SF) and BF content, ratios of the activator to precursor, water to solids, NaOH to water glass (WG) and fly ash (FA) to sand. The experiment revealed the optimum BFRG mortar and the compatibility of BF to the geopolymer which gained great values for workability, split tensile strength and compressive strength.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128910098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the lack of a worldwide consensus, much research about externally bonded (EB) FRPs on beams focus on determining the shear capacity contribution (𝑉𝑉𝑓𝑓), in which a parameter called the effective strain (𝜀𝜀𝑓𝑓𝑓𝑓) is often used. The 𝜀𝜀𝑓𝑓𝑓𝑓 is often limited by the governing failure mode (typically debonding). Factors like the complexity of shear phenomenon and composite systems hinder such consensus. Machine learning (ML) applications have been used to model complex behaviour using datasets. A hyperbox modelling ML approach with mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) is used, providing interpretability and versatility in results modelling. This study determines the 𝑉𝑉𝑓𝑓 sufficiency of EB CFRPs on beams while minimizing prediction errors through the 8 rule-based models produced for the EB CFRP configurations.</p>","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115576503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The horizontal profile is typically arch shaped to provide lateral stiffness which makes the skew wind angle (incident angle in the horizontal plane) a function of the position along the bridge. Hence, skew wind effects may be important. In this paper, a wind load module is developed for OrcaFlex based on classical buffeting theory extended to account for variations of the aerodynamic coefficients with variation of the skew wind angle relative to the bridge. Using this load module, the response of a 3 km floating bridge is investigated with and without skew wind effects.","PeriodicalId":168532,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Symposium, Prague 2022: Challenges for Existing and Oncoming Structures","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114601363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
