However, the works didn’t achieve public acclaim through the Concursos de Literatura Colonial, nor are they part of the corpus of recent publication on colonial literature with a Mozambican theme (Noa, 2002; Sousa, 2013), except for the thesis by Neves (2016). In this article, from the analysis of the books Cartas da Zambézia (1920), Costumes e Lendas da Zambézia (1925) and Figuras e Episódios da Zambézia (1929), we seek to understand how the author constructs miscegenation and the relations between colonizers and colonized, just as we seek to infer gender and sexuality perspectives on African populations, especially non-assimilated ones.","PeriodicalId":168458,"journal":{"name":"Moderna Språk","volume":"35 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141716880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Doris Bachmann-Medick talks about a ‘pandemic turn’ and claims, that the coronavirus pandemic implies a kind of crisis situation for human existence in our global reality. Everything has changed with the pandemic. Especially the biopolitical measures as well as health policy have entailed significant changes in social and individual living conditions. Literary discourses as a particular part of culture have the significant potential to reflect and criticize certain aspects of society and culture. Thea Dorn’s Corona novel Trost. Briefe an Max can obviously be described as a reaction to and literary reception of the Corona-era since 2020. The first-person narrator Johanna works as a culture journalist. She recently lost her mother, who travelled to Italy despite the pandemic. In her letters to her philosophy teacher, she expresses her immeasurable sadness and anger due to the new way of living because of the pandemic. The critical attitude of the novel is remarkable in terms of absolutization since helping becomes a part of biopolitics in times of the pandemic that leads to a tragic situation for the subject. In this article, I will analyze Thea Dorn’s Trost. Briefe an Max with reference to the approaches of Giorgio Agamben in Homo Sacer concerning biopolitics. In this context, especially the critical potential and attitude of this novel get important.","PeriodicalId":168458,"journal":{"name":"Moderna Språk","volume":"45 1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141705397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We recorded minimum four consecutive lessons in each classroom across two school years, totaling 90 lessons. Research on intercultural competence in second and foreign language classrooms has involved analyses of curricula, textbooks, literary texts in class, and intervention studies, but few scholars have observed naturally occurring instruction. Even fewer studies have used video observations to compare language subjects. This study aims to fill this gap by providing an overview of how intercultural competence is addressed in English and French instruction and identifying similarities and differences between the two subjects. Using the model elaborated in the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) as an analytical lens, we found that the model’s area knowledge and critical understanding was most prominent in both subjects and that cultural stereotypes both occurred and were challenged by students across subjects. However, we found more, and more varied, evidence of intercultural competence in the English classrooms, where topics were studied in-depth, whereas the French classes often studied an array of topics more superficially.","PeriodicalId":168458,"journal":{"name":"Moderna Språk","volume":"2018 45","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141706646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While intuition plays a crucial role in various cognitive processes, its specific implications in linguistics and foreign language pedagogy remain incompletely understood. The first part presents the main theses and research findings on intuition in linguistics (Chomsky, Guillaume, Benveniste, Langacker) and foreign language didactics (Krashen, Ellis, Oxford, DeKeyser, etc.). The second part outlines an empirical study of linguistic behaviours based on intuition.\u0000The study focuses on the evaluative function of intuition linked to the rapid judgment of the grammatical correctness of sentences and the compensation function, which involves the immediate inference of the meaning of unknown lexical units from the context. The study results, conducted with 102 students of French as a foreign language, show that at the level of intuitive behaviours concerning the morphological and syntactic subsystems, their linguistic reactions, fast and unconscious behaviours, are characterised by more significant correction than conscious behaviours. On the other hand, as far as the intuitive behaviour related to the lexical-semantic subsystem is concerned, better results are generated by longer reaction times. The study also demonstrated that intuition supports not only native users, but also foreign langue learners at intermediate level of proficiency.","PeriodicalId":168458,"journal":{"name":"Moderna Språk","volume":"74 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141690772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It analyses the extent of Swedish translations of their works and the type and amount of attention they received in the Swedish press. Using a bibliometric approach for the translations, and analysing press material on the authors from the evening papers Aftonbladet and Expressen, the study found that 258 of the 532 works translated from Spanish to Swedish during the investigated period were Latin American, with 52 (20%) by the feautured authors. The press material reveals that García Márquez was the most covered, especially around his 1982 Nobel Prize, and the assessment of his literature and public persona was generally positive. Fuentes received significant attention in the 1980s and was also favourably regarded. Vargas Llosa was introduced early on to the Swedish readership, but his literary work and political engagement elicited mixed reactions. Cortázar received the least press coverage, correlating with fewer translations and less public attention.","PeriodicalId":168458,"journal":{"name":"Moderna Språk","volume":"486 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141707904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Así, este trabajo se enmarca en el ámbito del estudio de géneros de formación en español (Navarro, 2018) y recurre al análisis del género situado (Swales, 2018; Pérez-Llantada, 2015) como plataforma metodológica. El objetivo de este estudio es configurar un mapa de géneros de formación a partir de un corpus textual de aprendientes del área de la ingeniería. De esta forma, la investigación y descripción lingüística se vinculan a las necesidades pedagógicas en lenguas con propósitos específicos (Breeze & Sancho Guinda, 2017) y consideran las prácticas reales en las comunidades, así como a los escritores en estas disciplinas (Curry & Hanauer, 2014).
