To exclude the possible benefit related to the washout effect of placebo drops, a second control group with no treatment was included. Clinical healing time was significantly shorter in the moxifloxacin group than in the non-intervention group (3.8 vs. 5.7 days). An additional analysis was performed on the 2 control groups from which a shorter clinical healing time was found for placebo drops compared with no treatment; however, the difference was not statistically significant. The study was included in a meta-analysis with 3 previous studies comparing antibiotic therapy versus a control group with no antibiotic for the treatment of acute conjunctivitis in children aged 1 month to 18 years, with substantial confirmation of the already known results.","PeriodicalId":168380,"journal":{"name":"PAGINE ELETTRONICHE DI QUADERNI ACP","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114713547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rates and risk factors for severe COVID-19 among a group of 2,293 children primarily admitted for COVID-19 are defined. Approximately 30% of the hospitalized children had severe COVID-19 and 0.5% died during hospitalization. By means of a multivariate analysis the possible risks of severe COVID-19 were identified. Among children aged <2 years, chronic lung disease, neurologic disorders, cardiovascular disease, prematurity and airway abnormality were associated with severe COVID-19. Among children aged 2‒17 years, feeding tube dependence, diabetes mellitus and obesity were associated with severe COVID-19. These results are considered useful to identify children at risk of severe disease and who can benefit from COVID-19 prevention strategies, including vaccination.","PeriodicalId":168380,"journal":{"name":"PAGINE ELETTRONICHE DI QUADERNI ACP","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132275184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The RADAR score used by the authors to assess superiority considers not only the clinical response to therapy and resolution of symptoms but also the presence and severity of adverse effects of antibiotic therapy (box.1). Slightly less than 10% of children in each strategy have an inadequate clinical response. Short therapy has a 69% probability (95% CI, 63-75) of presenting a more desirable RADAR score than standard therapy. In addition, the authors performed antibiotic resistance (resistoma) gene analysis for a group of 171 children. The average number of antibiotic resistance genes per prokaryotic cell (RGPC) was significantly lower with short therapy and thus helpful in counteracting the problematic phenomenon of antibiotic resistance.","PeriodicalId":168380,"journal":{"name":"PAGINE ELETTRONICHE DI QUADERNI ACP","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126290199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
