L'antibioticoterapia topica è efficace nel trattamento della congiuntivite acuta nei bambini
Local antibiotic therapy is effective in acute infectious conjunctivitis Ten years after the last Cochrane review on the subject, this small randomized trial (88 participants aged 6 months to 7 years) aimed to test the efficacy of local antibiotic therapy (moxifloxacin) vs placebo in acute infectious conjunctivitis. To exclude the possible benefit related to the washout effect of placebo drops, a second control group with no treatment was included. Clinical healing time was significantly shorter in the moxifloxacin group than in the non-intervention group (3.8 vs. 5.7 days). An additional analysis was performed on the 2 control groups from which a shorter clinical healing time was found for placebo drops compared with no treatment; however, the difference was not statistically significant. The study was included in a meta-analysis with 3 previous studies comparing antibiotic therapy versus a control group with no antibiotic for the treatment of acute conjunctivitis in children aged 1 month to 18 years, with substantial confirmation of the already known results.
