Each element is designed by utilizing an ENG ZOR unit cell with size of 10 mm × 6 mm × 6 mm. The lower resonant frequency is fixed by the zeroth order resonance of the ENG ZOR and the higher is selected by the radiator utilizing the first order resonance of the ENG ZOR. An isolator is added between the two elements in order to enhance the isolation characteristic at higher band of the designed MIMO antenna. The MIMO antenna is fabricated on the top side of the ground plane with size of 48 mm × 108 mm × 0.4 mm. The fabricated antenna has the isolation of about 20 dB at the lower band and higher than 13 dB at the higher band.","PeriodicalId":166472,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130903522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antennas discussed here are based on antennas designed from metamaterial inspired concepts. An electromagnetic reverberation chamber is used for the tests of the antennas. A reverberation chamber is basically a shielded room (metallic wall) with an arbitrarily shaped metallic rotating paddle and is an ideal environment for measuring the total radiated power of an antenna. The proposed antenna comprised a dual-band main inverted-F resonator and two parasitic elements. This compact antenna operates in GSM900, DCS, PCS, UMTS, Bluetooth/WLAN, WiMAX, HiperLAN/2 and IEEE 802.11a, with return loss better than −6 dB. The wide bandwidth was achieved by just using the capacitive-coupled parasitic element.
