In the proposed load-pull set-up the mobile terminal itself is used as a source. The presented method can provide valuable data for antenna design since it determines the optimal impedance at the antenna connector/pad taken into account the full output circuitry of the mobile terminal. It reveals the modification of the power amplifier, PA, output impedance caused by the presence of SAW filter, antenna switch, and transmission line possibly present between the PA and the antenna. With the presented method it is not only possible to characterize the optimum antenna impedance to be presented to the terminal' PA in different bands and channels but also to reveal the impedance miss-match sensitivity of the PA for each channel.","PeriodicalId":166472,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115499613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed CRLH TL unit cell consists of a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor to realize left-handed (LH) series capacitance and a shorted-stub shunt arm to realize LH shunt inductance and total three cells are used for the antenna design. The proposed antenna has very compact size (total size; 24.2 mm x 25 mm, unit cell size p is 7.2 mm, p ≈ λg/9). This antenna is designed for wide bandwidth and omni-directional radiation pattern. The measured result shows that the prototype antenna has wide impedance band-width of 100 %, near omni directional radiation pattern and maximum gain of − 0.3 dBi. In our work, cavity-backed structures are utilized with bowtie exciters. The patterns of the proposed cavity-backed triangular bowtie antenna (TBA) with rounded corners can be stabilized within a 92% frequency band without side lobes, by placing a circular ring between the ground plane of the cavity and the TBA. Similar performances can also be achieved by a dual-folded TBA backed by the same cavity. Much wider available bandwidth can be achieved by employing complex cavity.","PeriodicalId":166472,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129768940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The integrated design of a low noise amplifier (LNA) stage and an enhanced patch antenna is presented. The antenna consists of a microstrip patch integrated with one-dimensional DGS in ground plane and two-dimensional PBG. It is demonstrated that application of DGS and PBG eliminates the second and third harmonics and improve the return loss level. Moreover, the combination use of PBG and DGS decreases the occupied area by 61%. Also, by adopting DGS pattern on the ground plane, the length of the output matching network of the LNA shortened by about 39%, while maintaining the matching and performances of the amplifier. This, also, eliminates the third harmonic.","PeriodicalId":166472,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134016030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
