It was recorded that mean value of APC for breast samples was 7.6×105 CFU/g and 4.9×106 CFU/g for thigh samples. Also, it was recorded that mean value of Staphylococci count for breast samples was 6.3×102 CFU/g and 2.5×103 CFU/g for thigh samples. In addition, it was recorded that mean value of EC for breast samples was 1.6×105 CFU/g and 3.6×105 CFU/g for thigh samples while mean value of CC for breast samples was 6.4×104 CFU/g and 3.7×105 CFU/g for thigh samples. It was clear that mean value of EC and CC of thigh samples was higher than that of breast samples. Finally, mean value of Mold count for breast samples was 3.6×102 CFU/g and 6.2×102 CFU/g for thigh samples while mean value of Yeasts count for breast samples was 1.9×103 CFU/g and 8.9×103 CFU/g for thigh samples. Detection of potential pathogenic bacteria revealed that the incidence of E. coli was higher in the examined samples of breast (54%) compared to that of thigh (48%) while the incidence of Salmonella was in the examined samples of breast and thigh was 9% for each. The obtained results clarified that imported chicken carcasses had higher bacterial counts and significant potential pathogenic bacteria that may be attributed to cross contamination and unsanitary personal hygiene during handling, packaging, storage and distribution.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116070289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary propolis supplementation on semen characteristics, including volume, sperm motility, viability, physiological abnormalities, sperm count, seminal antioxidant level, seminal α-glucosidase activity, and serum testosterone level. This study was carried out on nine buffalo bulls divided into three groups supplemented daily with 150 mg/kg DM/head propolis, 100 mg/kg DM/head propolis, or fed a basal control. After 2 months, semen samples were collected for biochemical analysis of various parameters and serum samples were collected for measuring total testosterone levels. Results showed that propolis supplementation increased semen volume, sperm motility, and live sperm percentage, with a concomitant reduction in the percentage of abnormal sperm. Antioxidant activity of glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase increased in groups that received propolis, with a concurrent decline in malondialdehyde concentration. Also, α-glucosidase activity in seminal plasma and serum testosterone levels showed a marked increase after propolis supplementation. In conclusion, these results suggest that dietary propolis may enhance semen characteristics in Egyptian buffaloes","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117095862","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A grand total of 100 samples of raw milk were randomly collected from small breeders and supermarkets then transferred directly to the laboratory with a minimum of delay, where they were examined bacteriologically for detection of some food poisoning bacteria including; Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella. The obtained results clarified that the prevalence of E. coli, Staph. aureus and Salmonella in raw milk samples was 64, 35 and 3%, respectively. Serological identification of E. coli isolates revealed that only 4 isolates of E. coli (6.25%) were belonged to Enteropathogenic E. coli where serological identification revealed the presence of O86, O119: H6, O26: H11 and O125: H21 serotypes. Moreover, multiplex PCR was employed for detection of stx1, stx2 and eaeA virulence genes specific for Enteropathogenic E. coli. Also, it was found that the prevalence of Coagulase positive Staph. aureus based on coagulase test was 60% (21 out of 35 isolates) while it was 54.3% based on presence of clfA gene. Finally, serological identification of Salmonella isolates revealed the presence of S. Infantis, S. Typhimurium and S. Enteritidis. The recorded results in the current work highlighted the role of raw milk in transmitting food poisoning bacteria to consumers so strict hygienic measures must be considered during production and distribution of raw milk.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133674265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 500 females and 55 males Ross 308 broiler breeders were allotted into two groups; the first received one cm of Activo@ * (specific formulation of essential oils) per liter of drinking water for five successive days each month throughout the experimental period (six months of production), while the second was a control one. 64,320 eggs were used for investigating fertility and hatchability traits throughout three production stages; the first one extended from the 6th to the 13th week, the second was extended from the 14th to the 21st week and the third stage extended from the 22nd till the 29th week of laying. Phytogenic supplementation significantly improved fertility and hatchability percentages (scientific and commercial) as well as the weight of hatched chick. Uunhatched and culled percentages were significantly declined especially those of early stages of production. Meanwhile there was none significant influence on embryonic mortality, piped live and dead percentages. Supplementation of essential oils to broiler breeders' flocks during early stages of production is recommended.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124348510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 100 camels and 100 human serum samples were examined serologically for brucellosis using RBPT, BAPAT, and CFT. In addition, multiplex PCR was carried out as further confirmation. The overall prevalence of brucellosis in camels by RBPT, BAPAT, CFT, and PCR were 10, 10, 9 and 9%, respectively while they were 17, 15, 14 and 13% for human samples with non-significant statistical association between them. Molecular characterization of seropositive samples of camels as tested by multiplex PCR clarified that B. abortus was the highest detected Brucella spp. while B. melitensis was the highest detected in humans. Females and older camels were more affected and the highest prevalence rate was observed during winter season. Concerning humans, the results of testing were 17, 15, 14, and 13%, respectively. It was noticed that males were more seropositive than females and age group 20 - 40 years appeared to be the most group at the risk than younger or/and older ones. On studying the effect of locality, it was clear that the highest seroprevalence was recorded in Sallum (26.67%). Finally, winter season showed the highest seasonal prevalence of human brucellosis. Conclusively, brucellosis is alarming in Matrouh Province so there was an urgent need for implementing a proper control program for brucellosis in camels and more attention should be paid towards improving the animal health delivery system in those Provinces that are large in size and share borders with other countries.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128354861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was designed to clarify hematological, biochemical, and pathological alterations associated with hepatic coccidiosis in rabbits and to investigate the effect of diclazuril on the course of the disease for both protection and treatment. Rabbits experimentally infected with 2×104 sporulated oocysts of E. stiedae. Rabbits were equally divided into 4 groups. Group 1, non-infected non-treated, was served as control negative. Group 2 was considered a control positive. Group 3 treated on the day 10 post-infection with a dose of 5 ppm of diclazuril given orally in drinking water for 2 days. Finally, group 4 or the protected group was administered diclazuril at a dose of 1 ppm orally in drinking water for seven days before infection. Blood and serum samples were collected at 18th, 25th, 32th, and 39th days post-infection. Rabbits of group 2 showed significant alterations of hematological parameters [reduced of RBCs, Hb, MCV, lymphocyte counts and increased of TLC, Neutrophil counts]; serum biochemical parameters [reduced concentrations of total protein, albumin, calcium, and increase of bilirubin, urea, enzymatic activities of ALT, AST, ALP, GGT]; and histological picture of liver indicated hepatic coccidiosis, while rabbits either treated by or protected with diclazuril showed no significant hematological, biochemical and histopathological changes from negative control. In conclusion, diclazuril appeared to be a potent anticoccidial drug against E. stiedae infection in rabbit either for treatment or as prophylaxis.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128120706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
