The present study aimed at estimation of the residual content of Pb, Cd, and Al in the retailed cow’s and buffaloes’ milk collected from urban and rural areas in Sharkia Governorate, Egypt. In addition, the effects of the heat treatment of the milk in different cooking wares (made from aluminum, glass, and stainless steel) were further examined. The public health significance of the studied metals was discussed. The obtained results revealed detection of the tested metals in all examined samples at variable concentrations. In general cow’s milk had higher contents of Pb, Cd, and Al compared with the milk of buffaloes. Moreover, milk sampled from rural areas had significantly higher metal load compared with that sampled from urban areas. Heating of the milk in aluminum-made cooking wares significantly increased Al residues in the heat-treated milk with slight increase in the load of Pb, and Cd. While heating of the milk in cooking wares made from glass had slight reduction in the metal load of the milk. Therefore, it is highly recommended to use glass wares for heating of the milk instead of aluminum wares to avoid leaching of toxic metals to the heated milk.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132940527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, determination of the antibiotic sensitivity of some E. coli isolates to select the suitable antibiotics for treatment of mastitis and finally, application of PCR for detection of some virulence genes. Escherichia coli were isolated from milk, bedding and water of sheep farms at the rate of 8.67, 16 and 10%, respectively while it were isolated from milk, bedding and water of goats farms at the rate of 15.33, 24 and 10%, respectively. Moreover, Twenty E. coli isolates were serologically identified revealing the presence of serotypes; O114:H21, O111:H4 and O124. Results of antibiogram test performed for E. coli O114:H21 clarified that it was highly sensitive for Ciprofloxacin (CIP 5 µg), Enrofloxacin (5 µg) and Oxytetracycline (30 µg). E. coli isolates were tested by multiplex PCR for detection of stx1 (555 bp) and eaeA (425 bp) genes for characterization of Enteropathogenic E. coli successfully. Finally, it was concluded that, E. coli could be isolated from the examined samples of milk, bedding and water of different farms under investigation. Also, it was noticed that the isolation rates of bacteria was higher in goats farms compared to sheep farms which may be due to the defects in the hygienic conditions inside these farms.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"361 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115985593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it has been noted that milk also could be considered as a vehicle for pathogenic microorganisms. Milk likely to be intentionally/unintentionally polluted at different production, manufacturing and marketing stages. Therefore, the following study was conducted to ascertain the prevalence of zoonotic Y. enterocolitica in raw milk and to evaluate the risk effects of milk adulteration with addition of water with an emphasis on the quality of this water that might be used in the adulteration process. Raw cow milk samples were gathered randomly from different households at El-Beheira province, Egypt and subjected to some chemical and microbiological investigations. One hundred and thirty-two raw milk samples and 53 water samples were randomly collected from the same source. The results showed that the isolation rate of Y. enterocolitica from the milk samples was 8.3%. The percentage of milk fraud by water addition was 52.8%. Our findings suggested that milk contaminated and adulterated by water addition could be a potential source for many zoonoses. Also revealed high adulteration percentage of milk with addition of low hygienic quality water that represents a great health hazard in addition to poor nutritional quality.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127373860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quercetin (QT); a natural flavonoid , strong antioxidant , free radical scavenger and iron chelator, has multiple therapeutic effects. The present study aimed to explore role of IONPs and QT in rat body weight and possible protective effect of QT in chelating iron preventing fenton reaction. Twenty five male adult rats were allocated equally into five groups: control, IONPs (50 mg/kg b.w i.p. 3 times/week), QT (25 mg/kg b.w. daily per os)+IONPs, QT (50 mg/kg b.w. daily per os) + IONPs, QT (100 mg/kg b.w. daily per os) + IONPs. Rat body weights were assessed weekly till end of the study. after the 30 days brain tissues were collected for measurement of iron level. IONPs induced a non-significant difference in all weeks except at day of sacrifice there was a significant increment in body weight. Compared to IONPs group, QT 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg b.w.+IONPs induced a non-significant difference in body weight in all weeks. IONPs induced a significant increment in Fe level. Compared to IONPs group, QT 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg+IONPs induced a non-significant reduction in Fe level. the results of this study showed role of IONPs and quercetin in body weight gain and suggested protective role of quercetin in chelating Fe preventing fenton reaction occurred from its increase by IONPs.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133774709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fifty, one-day old, Avian 48 unsexed commercial broiler chickens were used on a completely randomized design in 2 groups each consisting of 25 broilers. The groups included the control group (basal diet) and the other group with basal diet and Aloe vera gel supplemented in the drinking water. The results obtained regarding performance of the broilers showed that Aloe vera gel group brought higher body weight gain and feed efficiency compared to the control group; however, significant difference was observed in mean body weight between the groups supplemented by Aloe vera gel and the control group (P < 0.05) and Aloe vera was better. Aloe vera resulted in the better hemoglobin concentration and red blood cells counts which were even significantly higher than the control group. The Aloe vera gel group had the largest cecal villus height and the greatest villus height to crypt depth ratio compared to the control group. Supplementation of Aloe vera extract in the water of chicks enhanced the gut health and gut development. Aloe vera, as an additive to broiler chicken feed, has a great potential for improving growth performance, hematological parameters, intestinal health, and immune system response.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126394787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the current study, we evaluated the hepatotoxicity of EMB on male rats and the possible ameliorative role of Nigella Sativa oil (NSO). Rats (Thirty-five) were randomly divided into 5 equal groups. Control group the rats were treated orally with distilled water, NSO group; the rats received NSO at a dose of 3 ml kg-1 B.W orally day after day for 6 weeks by stomach tube, EMB group; the rats received EMB at a dose of 9 mg kg-1 orally day after day for 6 weeks by stomach tube; EMB+ NSO group; the rats received EMB and NSO day after day for 6 weeks; EMB then NSO group; the rats received EMB orally day after day for 4weeks alone then received NSO day after day for 2 weeks. Intoxication of rats with EMB significantly showed that EMB treatment resulted in a decrease in the body weight in compared with the control group. Regarding to the histopathological examination, EMB treatment induced coagulative necrosis and blood vessels congestion of the liver in treated rats. Furthermore, it resulted in sporadic cell necrosis in individual hepatocytes, central vein and blood sinusoids revealed dilatation and congestion. Portal areas revealed moderate fibrosis with few mononuclear inflammatory cells infiltration and hyperplasia of bile duct lining epithelium. Hemorrhage and hemosiderosis in liver parenchyma. The co-administration of NSO with EMB modulated the EMB induced alterations in body weight and liver structure.","PeriodicalId":166243,"journal":{"name":"Damanhour Journal of Veterinary Sciences","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115128955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
