However, controllers are often designed without considering the dynamic behavior of the actuators; situation that leads to excessive controller actuation and diminishes the overall performance of the aircraft, including its energy consumption. In this paper, we discuss the dynamic effects of the airflow induced by a propeller, in hover mode, on the thrust produced, the dynamic response of the actuators, and we determine a thrust correction factor for the effective thrust as well as a bandwidth of the dynamic response, which can be used as designing parameters to improve the controller design. Using a mechanical analogy, we show the implicit assumption on the inertial frame of reference when the Conservation of Momentum Theory is used to calculate the thrust in a hovering propeller; assumption that modifies the perception of the produced thrust with respect to the effective thrust observed in an absolute frame of reference. This highlights the importance of the horizontal change of momentum of the incoming airflow, neglected in traditional approaches but responsible of the effective force of lift in the steady state of the propeller when an ideal fluid is assumed. Finally, we introduce a simple dynamic model of the airflow induced by the propeller and provide an estimation of the maximum bandwidth response to be expected from the actuators.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123203811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, a methodology based on adaptive filter using the least mean squares algorithm for tracking of voltage variations and a fuzzy logic system for automatic classification are proposed. The proposal consists of three stages: 1) denoising through a lowpass filter to remove non-fundamental frequency components, 2) envelope and type of voltage tracking, and 3) final classification according to the IEEE Std. 1159 using a rule-based decision process. In order to validate and test the proposal, a set of synthetic and real signals is used. The obtained results demonstrate the proposal effectiveness to detect and classify voltage variations, even when they are embedded in high level noise. Unlike other reported works, the proposed fuzzy logic system allows the tracking of the voltage variation such as sag, swell, or interruption over time, it means sample to sample.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125417304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this design, the ground aerodynamic effect is considered to stablish the member functions and the linguistic rules for the fuzzy system. A direct fuzzy controller with an integrator stage structure is proposed in order to enhance the error in steady-state and obtain a good stabilization. Some control surfaces haven been generated to visualize the effects of the controller according to working zones in which the VTOL is located. The simulation results show this controller stabilizes the VTOL system by obtaining a soft landing and reducing vertigo.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130724171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Sliding mode control design for three phase load is formulated in terms of switching devices of the power converter. The main obstacle for application of the sliding mode control is called chattering and the amplitude of chattering can be reduced by increasing switching frequency. However, it should not exceed some certain value. Otherwise, it causes non-admissible heat losses in the power converters. The two problems are handled in this paper. The first one is minimizing the switching frequency for a given hysteresis loop of switching devices. The second problem is minimizing the hysteresis loop such that switching frequency does not exceed the admissible value, which would let us improve the accuracy of the system.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128823361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FMS problem is defined as a multi-objective problem where Cross Validation Error Rate (CVER) and the spent runtime (RT) of each candidate model are considered as objectives to be optimized through the well-known NSGA-II algorithm. The intuitive idea is to select competitive models that are not too computationally expensive. Four strategies for preferences handling from the Pareto front obtained by the proposed approach called N2FMS (NSGA-II for FMS) are compared, where three of them are ensemble solutions and the last one is the selection of the nearest solution to a reference point, which results to be the best strategy. The overall assessment suggests that N2FMS is an useful tool to find competitive models and it is capable of suggesting solutions with a lower runtime and competitive error rate.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125979246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, failures in transformer windings are still a major cause of transformer outages, and failure rates vary widely between different countries and systems, depending on many factors. Therefore, in this work, interturn faults with various levels of severity were imposed on the winding of a 120 VA, 24/125 V dry type transformer to diagnose it. The obtained signals during the experiments are processed using the Wavelet Transform and correlation modes. This technique only takes into account the high frequency information produced during the energization of a winding with interturn faults.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129225931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
