If the number of papers published is a parameter of scholars’ productivity, the number of citations received by each paper serves as an indicator of the quality of the research. The number of citations is often used to assess the quality of an article. In this bibliometric measure, papers that attract citations are considered to have a meaningful contribution. A high number of citations, especially when they come immediately after the papers are published, indicates that the paper is well accepted by scholars in the field and contributes to the advancement of science.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128172950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This new experience, however, received mixed responses from the public in different countries including India. A quantitative self-report, the Pro-Lockdown Compliance Scale (Pro-LCS), was developed to help 1) the Government and enforcing agents understand the compliance level of the public and 2) researchers investigate the antecedent factors of the compliance of the lockdown measures. The initial 10 items were administered to 309 male residents in Kerala via an online survey. The responses were randomly divided and submitted to exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Both analyses consistently support that the scale is best represented by a 5-item unidimensional model. Moreover, the Pro-LBS also demonstrated adequate internal consistency. The preliminary findings suggest that the scale is a brief and useful tool to examine the compliance level of the lockdown measures.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117311716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a response to these challenges, Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia made several changes. First, we now publish incrementally to accommodate the requirement to publish in time. In Indonesia, as well as in many parts of Asia, publications in journals are increasingly used to satisfy administrative requirements. We have received requests for faster publication due to graduation requirements from authors from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan. The importance of journal publication is increasing in the region. Second, the everchanging scientific landscape triggers a response from Clarivate Analytics that decided to include Journal Impact Factor (JIFTM) in the subsequent publication of the Journal Citation Reports (JCRTM) in 2023.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132133536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has emerged due to the rapid digital movement, which produces numerous digital applications that can widen the connection among humans from various backgrounds. Sometimes, different values and perceptions are the factors that incinerate violence on the internet, particularly verbal violence. In this study, we apply the term cyber aggression (CA), a form of structured and unstructured behavior to harm others online, to explain this phenomenon. The emergence of this new-kind of behavior must be addressed by the government and other stakeholders in managing social and political stability that requires intergroup relation. This study aims to explain two specific predictors that can empirically understand CA from the psychological perspective, namely, moral emotions and frequency of social media usage. Result shows that one dimension of moral emotion—guilt—is a significant predictor to inhibit CA. Moreover, shame precisely encourages people to conduct CA.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129677760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to assess current conditions associated with the availability of halal-friendly tourism elements and services and future implications for halal tourism in Korea through the lenses of diaspora from Muslim-dominated countries, including Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan. A qualitative approach with the descriptive exploratory design was employed and data were collected through in-depth interviews (N = 27) and direct observation. Results in the marketing context indicated that Koreans have basic knowledge of the concept of halal, halal food, halal services, and halal tourism. Muslim residents have a remarkable positive attitude when recommending others to visit Korea as a tourist destination, but the availability of halal tourism is insufficient. Thus, this study contributes to the literature on halal tourism and can serve as an information source for stakeholders and policymakers involved in the halal food market. A few marketing implications are also noted. Muslim consumers are unsatisfied with the facilities of halal tourism. They suggest that tourism organizations, hotel managers, and policymakers improve such facilities according to the sharia-based needs of Muslim tourists.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129057213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Little is known about how demographic dissimilarity affects individuals’ attraction to a team in the first place. The present research focused on the attraction component of the attraction selection-attrition model to investigate factors that contribute to team attraction and their associated underlying processes. Specifically, we identified anxiety towards potential teammates as an affective response to cultural dissimilarity, which in turn influenced performance expectations and team attraction. We also examined implicit and explicit cognitions that might shape the impact of anxiety. To this end, we tested the effects of implicit bias and perceptions of diversity culture in moderating the impact of anxiety on expected team performance and team attraction. Across two experiments, we found that anxiety mediated the effects of cultural dissimilarity on team attraction and performance expectations. Implicit bias, although not influencing the outcomes directly, moderated the link between anxiety and expected team performance. This effect was further moderated by whether diversity was valued. Specifically, when valuing diversity, individuals with heightened anxiety and lower implicit biases had lower expectations of performance from teams with dissimilar (vs. similar) members.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115920934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Economic studies have observed that physical attractiveness is associated with a higher wage. The benefits of being attractive have been perceived from early age, to the labor market, and to the marriage market. Despite all the advantages that beauty brings, efforts are being made to achieve or maintain attractiveness. People spend substantial resources, such as time and money, to enhance appearance. Using Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression, this study examines the correlation between perceived attractiveness and earnings among urban working women in Indonesia. Findings show that the income of women who perceive themselves as attractive is 19% higher than those who are unattractive after makeup application. Meanwhile, attractiveness without makeup application is found uncorrelated with earnings. Thus, grooming behavior may be a source of the observed wage premium for female workers.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126982303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A qualitative study using grounded theory method is employed. Study participants comprised five adolescent girls, aged 16–17 years, with the following interethnic friendships: Javanese–Arabic–Tionghoa, Javanese–Arabic, and Javanese–Tionghoa. Data on the formation process of closeness in interethnic friendship were collected using semi-structured interview referring to the Closeness Interethnic Friendship Guideline for Adolescents. Data were analyzed using initial coding, focused coding, axial coding, and theoretical coding. Results reveal seven composites of closeness in interethnic friendship: disclosure, comfort, compatibility, reappraisal of the characters and other ethnic groups, support, similarity, and togetherness. Closeness led to the continuity of friendship, along with positive emotions, such as excited, comfortable, fun, happy, joyful, content, safe, and proud. This process occurred when the situation supported togetherness as well as, personal quality, experience, and appraisal toward the different ethnic groups, and the shared values understood by all the ethnic groups.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129044378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Drawing on third-person effect (TPE) theory, this study aims to explain such feelings among viewers and examine the effect of appearance self-schema as an underlying cause of negative body image and the perceived impact of Fitspiration images on the self and others. A total of 301 university students who were viewers of Fitspiration images were recruited to complete a survey on demographic characteristics, body image, appearance self-schema, and the perceived impact of Fitspiration images on the self and others. Results show that the perceived effect of Fitspiration is greater on others than on the self. Appearance self-schema and the perceived impact of the media on others are negatively correlated with body image. Moreover, appearance self-schema positively counts for the perceived impact of Fitspiration images on the self and others. The robustness of TPE theory was confirmed in the context of Fitspiration images. Theoretically, TPE theory was expanded by introducing appearance self-schema as a predictor of first- and third-person perceptions. Some practical recommendations were made for young viewers and educationalists about the physical and mental health education related to the findings of this study.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116816321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Still, the rise of Islamophobia in Western countries has increased the same sentiment among Malaysian non-Muslim Indians, with the HIND RAF protest in 2007 demonstrating their deep concern for religious freedom. This study aims to understand the formation of Islamophobia among Malaysian non-Muslim Indians and their perceptions of Islam. This study employed the focus group method to collect data, thematic analysis to analyze data and purposive sampling to recruit 16 non-Muslim Indian undergraduate students. Intergroup contact theory was used as a framework to understand the mechanism for the formation of Islamophobia. Results showed that although participants from public universities have more contact with Muslim classmates than those from private universities, their knowledge and perception of Islam, as well as the levels of their Islamophobia are quite the same. The results suggest that it is important not only to increase contact between Muslims and non-Muslims in Malaysia but also to increase knowledge of each other’s cultures and religions, because increasing contact without knowledge will only further strengthen the existing prejudice. Through increasing contact and knowledge of both Muslims and non-Muslims, it is believed that the Islamophobia among non-Muslims would be reduced, thus increasing harmony among different ethnic groups.","PeriodicalId":165722,"journal":{"name":"Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125091228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
