Nutrition can play a critical role in muscle damage by playing a vital role in both protein synthesis and catabolism. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of four weeks of separate and concomitant leucine and taurine supplementation on delayed muscle soreness indices and muscle pain perception rate after eccentric resistance exercise in young non-trained men. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 48 non-trained young men were randomly divided into four groups of taurine + leucine supplement (2 g of taurine and 0.1 g of leucine per kg of body weight per day), taurine supplement (2 g taurine per day), leucine supplement (0.1 g leucine per kg body weight per day) and placebo (1500 mg maltodextrin per day) and took supplement and placebo for four weeks. Delayed onset muscle soreness in lower body muscles developed using knee flexion with a weight equivalent to 70% of 1RM (3 sets and 15 repetitions). Serum creatinine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase enzymes were measured by photometry and muscle pain perception rate was measured using the Pain Assessment scale (PAS) at the time before, immediately after, 24, 48 and 72 hours after eccentric resistance training. Results: Comparison of changes in creatinine kinase activity and muscle pain perception rate showed a significant difference in different stages before and after eccentric resistance exercise (P<0.05). These changes were significant in the leucine + taurine group in the pre-test times up to 24 hours and 48 hours post-test compared to the leucine, taurine and placebo groups (P <0.05). Changes in lactate dehydrogenase activity between groups were not significant at different times. Conclusion: Concomitant use of leucine and taurine supplements can reduce some of the indicators of muscle damage and muscle pain perception rate after eccentric resistance exercise.","PeriodicalId":16394,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Military Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41436186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of exhaustive protocol on knee muscle co-contraction in pronated and healthy individuals while running. Methods: Fourteen young men with pronated feet and 14 healthy feet participated in the study. Electromyography activities of the selected muscles before and after fatigue protocol were recorded. The statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS software and repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) (P ≤0.05). Results: Findings in the pronated foot compared with the healthy foot group showed that the knee general cocontraction during the mid-stance phase (P = 0.026, d = 0.81) and swing (P = 0.046, d = 0.81) and Vastuslateralis/vastusmedialis directed co-contraction of the knee was significantly lower during the heel contact phase (P = 0.049, d = 0.81). Flexural/extensor directed co-contraction in comparison of pretest to posttest during heel propulsion phase in both groups of pronated foot (P = 0.037, d = 0.81) and healthy foot (P = 0.037, 0.81 = d) decreased significantly. The other components did not show any significant differences. Conclusion: The co-contraction of the examined muscles in the knee joint has decreased in pronated foot in different stages of stance compared to the healthy foot group. This may be due to the over-activity of a group of muscles to overcome the instability of the knee and to prevent the extra movements of this joint when fatigue occurs, and it is also possible that this over-activity of a group of muscles has affected the running mechanics of individual with pronated foot and at different stages of the running cycle caused additional pressure on the knee joint and the musculoskeletal system in the knee joint loses its ability to properly absorb shock when running, increasing joint looseness and the risk of joint damage due to fatigue Increase.","PeriodicalId":16394,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Military Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44811214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was carried out to assess the quality of life and general health of the personnel of a military force and effective factors. Methods: The present research is a descriptive cross-sectional study in 2017. Four hundred members of a military force were selected by simple random sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria from Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and Mahshahr cities. The data collection tools included a self-report questionnaire consisting of three as demographic characteristics, a 36-item (SF-36) and a GHQ-28 general health questionnaire. Finally, the data were entered into SPSS software version 16 and it examined with descriptive statistics (frequency, mean and standard deviation) and also analytical statistics such as independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and Tukey test for multiple comparisons. Results: The results showed that Staffs quality of life scores were moderate. Also, the average of general health score had a normal condition without symptoms. On the quality of life subscales, pain and physical function had the highest and lowest mean, respectively. The lowest average score in subscale’s depression in general health. There was a statistically significant relation between the quality of life score and all demographic variables except military-grade (P<0.05). General health score had a significant relation with the majority of demographic variables, especially the Participant’s income level (P <0.05). Conclusion: It seems that training and supportive measures are needed to maintain and improve the existing conditions.
