The study looked at the impact of consumer demographics variables on consumer store choice. The study analysed the difference between retail choice based on consumer sex, age, marital status, education, income amongst others. A sample of 435 consumers was randomly and clustered selected from four major commercial cities in Nigeria namely; Kano, Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt, while Pearson chi-square was adopted to test the hypotheses. Results indicated that there is no significant difference between retail pattern choice and sex, marital status and religion while there is a significant difference between store choice based on income, age, education and economic position of the consumer. It concluded that demographic has a great difference on the patronage and choice of retail outlet. It recommended the possibility of targeting and segmenting retail along demographic profile.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126255925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In total, 120 small scale enterprises were interviewed. The study showed that most small scale businesses lacked in-depth knowledge on the issue of debt management. The study further revealed that the major cause of debts among small scale businesses were lack of advice on the business type and finances, lack of knowledge on the type of business and poor methods of keeping financial records. The study therefore recommends that Small scale businesses must hire financial experts to help them manage their businesses through prudent record keeping. Moreover, it argues that small scale businesses should work within their budgets in order to avoid higher expenditure and subsequent incurring of debts which could be detrimental to the running of their business. It posits that financial institutions should strive to give expert advice on business management to their clients.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121917995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, increasing globalization requires human resource management keep abreast with diverse cultures, values, beliefs and backgrounds. Therefore, capitalizing on workforce diversity is an important issue for leadership and management today. The paper evaluated the workforce diversity in Gulf College Oman in terms of four (4) dimensions; personality, internal, external and organizational. It also discussed the diversity dimensions affecting workforce personality as well as recessive and progressive diversity dimensions. Descriptive research was employed using a self-made survey tool anchored on `Dimensions of Diversity Wheel` by Gardenswartz & Rowe (2003) and `Dimensions of Diversity` by Compass Point Management Group Inc. (2010). Frequency count, mean, average weighted mean and rank were used to statistically analyze the gathered data. Results show that workforce diversity is highly evident in Gulf College Oman. Therefore, a differentiated employee development plan addressing various issues and concerns on workforce diversity should be developed. Motivational techniques should also be in place to further enhance productivity. The college should set the ?music? that transcends all boundaries to unify its people and achieve its goals.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130624123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Work affects family and personal life and vice versa. The relationship of work and family could lead to positive consequences (e.g. Improved skills, morale) or negative consequences (e.g. Conflict, strain, exhaustion) to employees. The ?aims of this paper is to investigate the effects of work-family conflict on job satisfaction and compare the differences between employees working in State-owned enterprises (SOEs) and Foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) in Vietnam. Respondents for this study were obtained from 49 employees from SOEs and 35 employees from FIEs in Vietnam. Descriptive analysis, independent-sample t-test and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted to analyse the data. The results of the study reveal that job satisfaction were found to be significantly different, but work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict were not significantly differ between the employees from SOEs and FIEs. Moreover, work-to-family conflict (WIF) and family-to-work (FIW) conflict are not the significant predictors for employee job satisfaction in both enterprises. The findings suggest that cultural value affects the link between work-family conflict and job satisfaction to some extent. Research limitation and recommendation for future research on this topic were discussed.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128005869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some regions have gained great benefits from foreign trade and developed in a dramatic speed while many other regions have not caught up with the high speed of development. The present work investigates whether (and how) the development of foreign trade in China is related to the ever-increasing economic disparity across different regions.
