The Enlightened Self Interest concept in business ethics however contends that social performance indirectly supports the financial performance of these corporations. This assertion is based on the logic that consumers who are the ultimate drivers of the economic bottom line always perceive the social actions and sanction accordingly through loyalty and purchase preferences. Do Customers really perceive Corporate Social responsibility as intended by the corporations? This work answers this question by applying the stakeholder theory with five dimensions of social responsibility expenses on; education; sports; health; environment; art and culture in the leading Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) Company in Cameroon. The study adopts a time series approach and regresses quarterly expenses on five Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) dimensions from 2001-2014 against the financial performance of the organization. The study equally applied a stratified random sample of 1000 consumers from different classes. The analyses established a highly significant relationship between corporate social responsibility expenses and the financial performance of the company, depicted by a fitness measure (adjusted R squared) of 0.986.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122579914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research shows that the main challenge for getting loans is information asymmetry between external creditors and SMEs themselves. This makes SMEs investment more risky and vulnerable for the investors. In this situation, credit rating agencies play an important role by rating the SMEs that reflects overall creditworthiness of the SMEs. The aim of this paper is to identify major problems and prospects of SMEs financing and comparative rating process of SMEs in Bangladesh. Presently, credit rating agencies in Bangladesh follow the similar process as in Japan and India. A major problem arises because rating fees is the key source of revenue for credit rating agencies which infuses a conflict of interest of marking high ratings. Moreover, Bangladesh still could not establish institutions which exists in developed countries e.g., Credit Guarantee Corporations (CGC) that supports SMEs as a credit guarantor in Japan. Apart from this, Bangladesh government may encourage boosting investor pay or subsidized model (this is at practice in India) that increases SMEs rating.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127742130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The nature of Oil and Gas Industry is such that involved very huge costs and project risks are enormous, especially where the project requires new infrastructure for successful undertaking. Even the few Oil companies that are capable of conducting such projects are usually not willing to take the huge risks alone. For such reasons therefore, Oil Companies in other to mitigate its various levels of costs and risks make joint applications for licence acreage. The purpose of this application is to enable two or more companies to share costs, risks and benefits in agreed proportions in the licence acreage regime they obtained together. The method commonly used by Oil Companies in achieving these joint objectives is through JOA. The paper adopts doctrinal methodology where relevant primary and secondary data were utilised. The paper observed that parties to JOA used sole risk and non-consent clauses in order allow dissenting parties an opportunity to benefit from their omission without terminating the main agreement of the parties. The paper recommends that parties shall from the onset recognise the consequences of JOA and couched the sole risk and non-consent clauses in a flexible manner that will not jeopardise the objectives of JOA. That is to say, the clauses should not be used in a manner that will defeat the major aim of the parties? relationship.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123609574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A large proportion of the Indonesian population is young but business start-ups are low and youth unemployment is high. Gaps in institutional development, economic growth, social and environmental wellbeing are all massive challenges for the country, which also faces a huge geographical spread of its population. Entrepreneurship is now being promoted by the government as a policy direction to help reduce some of the economic and social inequities which exist. Global organisations, such as ILO, OECD and UN, are also actively encouraging young entrepreneurship and eco-business as sustainable options for many social, economic and environmental challenges. This study proposes a relationship model between entrepreneurial characteristics, institutional environment and young entrepreneurs? innovativeness. While the response rate to the web-based survey was too low to test the proposed hypotheses, the paper does provide a meaningful introduction to this important topic, along with a comprehensive summary of constructs and measures of variables to encourage further research and to assist future researchers.?","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122508666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
