One of these social protection instruments is the informal pension scheme. In this study, the objective was to identify the factors that influenced informal sector workers' decision into pension scheme as well as their contribution levels. Heckman two-stage approach was adopted in analyzing the data collected from 150 informal sector workers in the Tamale metropolis. It was revealed that the elderly, the single, the highly educated, highly depended and higher income workers have a higher probability of contributing to the informal pension scheme. Similarly, traders, artisans, highly educated and highly depended upon workers contribute higher amounts monthly. Although informal sector workers in general should be encouraged to remain loyal or join pension schemes, farmers in particular need to be re-targeted. In order to restore confidence in the pension scheme and ensure its sustenance, public education must be intensified.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128087051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article, we aim to know and test whether the similarity of the institutional framework has to stimulate international trade between Tunisia and the European Union. In this context, we built a variable called “Institutional distance” to valid the institutional dimension of international trade, near borders effects reported in the literature. To this end, a gravity model was used initially (Tunisia and 21 European countries). Secondly, the estimate shows the existence of spatial autocorrelation. The latter has been corrected using spatial econometrics. The results show that the geographical distance remains more important than the institutions in this type of agreement between north and south shores of the Mediterranean.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131268026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have analyzed data from 2005 to 2011 for 220 listed non-financial firms, including manufacturing and services industries. This study reveals that joint board of directors of a firm and a commercial bank leads to easy availability of bank loan and thus decrease firm’s demand for trade credit. Moreover, some control variables like fixed assets, inventory and size has been found significant for trade credit demand.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127547624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several researchers have attempted to study the different effects of some options such as tax aggressiveness on firms and individuals. Overall, tax aggressiveness affects negatively the longevity of companies but what remains unanswered is by what specific means corporate governance decreases tax aggressiveness activities. In this paper, we examine the effect of some governance mechanisms on corporate tax aggressiveness. The study is based on the analysis of a sample of Tunisian listed firms over the 2006-2012 periods. Our regression results indicate that diversity in gender on corporate board, managerial and concentration ownership has significant effects on firms` tax aggressiveness activities. Board`s diversity and managerial ownership exhibit a positive association with the effective tax rate while increases in concentration ownership tend to affect it negatively. However, findings don`t show any significant effects of corporate board size and external auditor`s profile on the tax aggressiveness.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-02-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123067990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Finally, port efficiency also can cause customer satisfaction, demand increase and profitability rising up. In this light, this paper aims to identify and assess the Factors Causing Reduction of Performance in Container Handling Operation at the relevant studied container terminal; the present research has been conducted by use of TOPSIS method. In the first, having considered the daily census of container L/U in the pertinent terminal of the port, As well, brain storming cessions attended by experts from the mentioned terminal were held during which twenty two numbers of causes of delay were detected. Then, based on the criteria occurrence, severity, and probability of detection, the causes were scored. Then based on the obtained scores by each one of the causes, the matrix of decision making was formed and the mentioned causes were ranked by use of TOPSIS method. The obtained results via TOPSIS show that financial and administrative issues (Ci = 0.80048) jointed with the factor of deficiency of horizontal L/U equipment (Ci = 0.80048), then insufficiency of container yard (Ci = 0.67782) and unpreparedness of factors external to the port (Ci = 0.67577) were detected as the most important Factors Causing Reduction of Performance in Container Handling Operation of the studied port, respectively.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132817870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, SMEs have an ample and untapped potential to contribute in economic growth though enhancing entrepreneurial skills and indigenous technology. The contribution of SMEs sector to economic growth is thus a principle component in raising the internal efficiency of the resources. This study endeavors to find out the potential role of SME?s output in GDP growth for Pakistan considering some macroeconomic variables. While using data from 1980 to 2017, ARDL bound testing approach has been used to incorporate the dynamic perspective in the study. In model estimation, the GDP growth rate has been taken as a dependent variable, whereas, output of small sale industry, unemployment rate, government expenditure, interest rate, domestic investment, foreign direct investment and finance provided by banks to private sector have been included as independent variables. The estimation findings of dynamic model confirmed the direct and significant association between output of SMEs and GDP growth in Pakistan. However; the sector still requires a policy design to overcome the problems of the sector in war-footing grounds. These policies require a pro-active strategy that can cater more growth of the economy through progress of SMEs. In this regard, the strengthening and elevation of potential output of SMEs, made in Pakistan, tentative policy plan for Industry 4.0; and the distribution of SMEs in remote areas are the relevant recommended policy initiatives.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131722844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose that MNEs’ local business orientations and political behaviors are highly related to firms’ CSR selection as internal and external determinants, respectively, and we integrate the actual CSR practices from different characteristics to exploring and exploiting strategies. A multiple regression analysis was conducted by using survey data collected from MNE subsidiaries operating in Ethiopia. We found that firms who are oriented to raise competitiveness with collaborative attitudes toward host governments seek more exploring CSR practices. On the other hand, firms’ local orientation that is to build legitimacy with accommodative attitudes toward host governments has positive relations with exploiting CSR practices. Furthermore, contrary to the expectation the result revealed that exploiting CSR practices are positively related to both orientations, which implies that traditional CSR practices are treated fundamentally of importance in developing countries.","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129749656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effective tax rate presents for the tax avoidance level, in which higher effective tax rate means the lower tax avoidance level. In this research, the authors check robustness by using different methods to calculate the level of tax avoidance of corporates. Using Feasible Generalized Least Squares (FGLS) method with data of 460 enterprises listed on Vietnam Stock Exchange market from 2009 to 2015, the empirical result shows that the level of state ownership has an inverse relationship with tax avoidance behavior of corporates. In other words, the higher level of state-owned is, the fewer taxes they avoid. Empirical evidence also confirms that low concentration (≤ 30%) of state ownership has a positive effect on tax avoidance behavior. Besides that, size, firm performance, tangible assets level, and debt ratio have a meaningful positive relationship with the degree of tax avoidance, similarly prior studies.?","PeriodicalId":163871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asian Business Strategy","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127159803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
