The proposed HRES design specifies the operation of the following units: a pumped-storage hydro power plant, a wind power plant and a solar power plant. Since the pumped-storage hydro power plant represents the most complex entity of the HRES, special emphasis is placed on its two control loops: the water tank level control loop and the load-depended frequency control loop. Models of these control loops provide the means for efficient controller design and implementation. In order to achieve effective energy distribution and reliable power supply of the consumers, a switch logic architecture has been developed. Since the HRES's final energy production highly depends on the process of energy conversion, the performances of three types of power converters are analysed. This includes the parametrisation, modelling and simulation of such converters. Finally, a graphical user interface (GUI) for purposes of data monitoring, control and supervision within the designed SCADA system, is presented. The proposed HRES design represents the foundation of the system implementation that aims at serving as a platform for research, education and a broad range of projects on renewable energy.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134119367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents and discusses the results achieved so far by the project, with special emphasis on the implementation of a web services-based wrapper to seamlessly integrate new energy sources (renewable ones) into the NEMO network. Such a wrapper relies on the adoption of two standards, namely DPWS and the IEC 61850 series. The former handles service oriented related aspects whilst the latter helps to support the interoperability of Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), through the use of the Abstract Communication Service Interface (ACSI) and the Substation Configuration Language (SCL). Main problems raised and solutions found are also included in the paper as well as the future steps to be performed.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134216673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we present an example of characterization of the elaboration delay introduced by a commercial access point. The pdfs of such a delay, obtained under different traffic conditions, show that the considered device enters a sort of sleep mode if it remains inactive for a period longer than a measured threshold. Resuming the access point from this sleep state makes the delay it introduces higher and more variable. The aforementioned delay pdfs are used to analyze via numerical simulations the behavior of a hybrid (wired/wireless) industrial network using a master-slave protocol. We consider as a performance indicator, the jitter on the cyclic queries of the slaves, relevant to two different polling strategies, namely continuous and TDMA-based polling. The simulation results show that the jitter introduced by the access point behavior is relevant. On the other hand, the TDMA-based technique allows to mitigate such negative effects provided that the TDMA slots assigned to the slaves are chosen carefully.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131174316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The constituent PWA modules of the hierarchical solution have fewer inputs and/or coarser partitions, so that they can reduce considerably the hardware resources required and/or the time response of the controller. A design methodology aided by CAD tools is employed to design the parameters of the controller, implement its architecture in an FPGA, and verify the static and dynamic behavior of the digital implementation by applying hardware-in-the-loop testing.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130839421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two techniques are used to reduce required number of stages and improve power efficiency, namely clock boosting and Vt cancellation. Clock boosting is employed to increase the output voltage per stage resulting in lower number of stages, and hence smaller output resistance. Vt cancellation is achieved by using an auxiliary circuit that enables the charge pump to operate at input voltages as low as 300mV. Compared to conventional charge pump techniques, the proposed technique is shown to offer higher power efficiency and voltage gain. The charge pump is designed using TSMC 0.25µm CMOS technology.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133523589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HBMI uses the body motion which is caused by the voluntary motion. From our previous research, it has been confirmed that HBMI, which uses the center of weight on the pressure sensor attached on the backrest, has the ability of an interface. However the problem has also remained. The velocities of each wheel have determined based on the error between initial and current position of center of weight. When user tries to stop the wheelchair, user has to rigorously return the center of weight to the initial position. Therefore, if a slight error remains on the center of weight, the wheelchair is not able to stop exactly. This paper absorbs ambiguous human motion, and proposes the control scheme to prevent miss operation of wheelchair caused by slight variation of the center of weight.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133754995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
