Several manufacturers are working on the development of new and efficient elevator lifts based on energy-recovery schemes. This paper is focused on the retrofit of already existing inverter-based non-efficient elevator actuators. This purpose is achieved through a) the connection of only two wires to the DC bus of the existing inverter, and b) a very simple but robust control based on several voltage hysteresis-bands. Simulation and experimental results show the validity of the approach.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120993812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays reliability is more of a concern than in the past especially for the offshore wind turbines since the access to offshore wind turbines in case of failures is both costly and difficult. Lifetime modeling of future large wind turbines is needed in order to make reliability predictions about these new wind turbines early in the design phase. By doing reliability prediction in the design phase the manufacturer can ensure that the new wind turbines will live long enough. This paper represents an overview of the different aspects of lifetime modeling of high power IGBTs in wind power applications. In the beginning, wind turbine reliability survey results are briefly reviewed in order to gain an insight into wind turbine subassembly failure rates and associated downtimes. After that the most common high power IGBT failure mechanisms and lifetime prediction models are reviewed in more detail.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116436799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The torque characteristic of BLDC motor presents a very important factor in design of the BLDC motor drive system, so it is necessary to predict the precise value of torque, which is determined by the waveforms of back-EMF. After development of simple mathematical model of the BLDC motor with sinusoidal and trapezoidal waveforms of back-EMF the motor is simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. Based on analysis of the time responses a comparison study of results of both BLDC motor types is presented in Graphical User Interface of MATLAB environment.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126780954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Main design specifications are robustness to load electrical parameters, fast dynamic response, reduced switching frequency and simple hardware implementation. To meet previous specifications a switching two types of controllers are developed: hysteresis type and Lyapunov type. The voltage source inverter (VSI) is represented as event driven system with 23 modes of operation. The switching among these modes is governed by the supervisory control approach. The overall stability of the system is shown using Lyapunov technique. The Lyapunov functions used contain a term penalizing incremental energy of control error, torque and stator currents, enhancing the stability. The regulation with the proposed control law provides good transient response of the brushless BLDC motor control. A new logical FPGA torque controller based on Lyapunov stability theory are developed, analyzed and experimentally verified.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121027383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed approach, offering a variable gain property, is demonstrated to be more effective over classical and sliding mode control methods for the fast locking and low phase noise requirements of PLL based frequency synthesizers in frequency hopping spread spectrum communication and radar applications. The obtained simulation results are compared with those of a PID, a SMC, and traditional FS controller design and it has been concluded that the settling time and the phase noise of the frequency synthesizer can be optimized using the developed fuzzy gain scheduling based PLL.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127324323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This topology is relatively simple for practical realisation. It offers a higher number of switching states without the need for capacitor voltage balancing algorithms, when compared to the equivalent standard multi-level converter in single-sided supply mode. The extension of the idea to multi-phase machines is however not straightforward. The main reason is that inclusion of a multi-phase machine leads to exponential increase in the number of possible switching states, so that the design of a suitable space vector modulator (SVM) represents a considerable challenge. This paper considers for the first time a seven-phase open-end winding topology. A relatively simple SVM algorithm, based on already developed seven-phase two-level drive SVM method, is used for operation of both inverters. The proposed modulation technique is straightforward to implement and is capable of generating pure sinusoidal output voltages, without any low-order harmonic components. The method generates up to 25-level load phase voltage and therefore offers superior harmonic performance when compared to the two-level seven-phase topology in single-sided supply mode. The developed scheme is verified by simulation, using a seven-phase induction machine operated under V/f control.","PeriodicalId":162453,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"44 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132605430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
