Within the preparation of the 2nd generation of the Eurocodes a 3rd (final) draft of an updated EN 1991-1-7 is edited [2]. Rules and background information for the Eurocode impact rules concerning inland and maritime waterway traffic are given. The rules and recommendations cover aspects like impact dynamics, load-indentation-functions, collision angles, collision probabili- ties and reliability criteria. For seagoing vessels new impact mechanics have been included. Infor- mation from some National Annexes and open questions are mentioned. Examples with determined ship impact forces are presented.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"532 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123088788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially when a quick assessment of a structure is necessary, easily measurable characteristics, such as geometric properties have to be used. In this paper, the existing Application BRASSCO-NG is extended for masonry arch bridges by implementing the methodology described in paper [16] of this conference proceedings. Embedded into a worked example, the application of the tool is explained in detail from the first reconnaissance to the interpretation of the results. A subsequent benchmark evaluation to the static calculation and the empirical MEXE methodology compares the outcome to the techniques currently used in military and civil engineering. Even though the tool is mainly aimed for military application, the basic structure can easily be adopted for civil use, e.g. the rapid assessment of a structure after a natural disaster.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124912393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the beginning, feasible shear-connector concepts are presented, which are analysed in a first shear test series with regard to load-bearing capacity, stiffness, fracture behaviour, and also manufacturability and economic efficiency. Based on the shear tests, a connector is finally selected which can be used in timber-granite-composite structures and will be further investigated in the progressing research project.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"258 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122746512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To tackle the complicated traffic problems of BWIM, this paper develops a novel BWIM method by integrating the bridge influence surface theory and deep-learning based computer vision technique. For illustration and verification, the proposed method is applied to identify gross weights of vehicles in scale experiments, where various complicated traffic scenarios are simulated. Identification results confirm the favourable robustness, accuracy, and cost- effectiveness of the method.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125182803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a method is presented that gives an approximation of the load bearing capacity using only very few geometrical dimensions. Unlike other commercial software kits, the methodology is not tailored to do an exact structural analysis using as-built drawings and documentations, but it is made for a rapid classification of civil engineering structures in the field. Characteristics of the proposed methodology are the analysis using thrust lines and the minimized time consumption for the exploration of the structural properties, which makes the approach the first choice for rapid classification tasks within the German Armed Forces. The application that will be delivered as an App for tablets and other mobile devices shall be used for rapid classification of masonry arches with regard to the crossing of military vehicles, but can easily be adapted for civil applications. For a worked example on the presented methodology, see [25].","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125408043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fracture mechanical investigation of glass, however, is challenging due to e.g. the randomness of flaw size, flaw orientation and quality. Generation of radial and median cracks is inevitable while using a mechanical indenter with direct contact. These undesirable effects, along with uncertainty about the groove’s depth and geometry, degrade the accuracy of results and underline the need for a more reliable tool. Consequently, this contribution focuses instead on the application of ultra-short laser as a non-contact tool, which recently has proved to be a promising solution because of its precision, high speed, and repeatability. Here, artificial grooves with a well-controlled depth are realized on the surface of soda-lime silica glass to investigate the effects of loading rate, flaw size and flaw orientation on the glass strength. Four- point bending tests are performed to assess the failure loads. The method manages to capture the results with a very low standard deviation of the failure stress (approximately 1 MPa), eliminating the need for using large series of specimens.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125753818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of seismic analyses of the bridges revealed the considerable sway-mode vibrations in longitudinal direction, and seismic devices such as viscous dampers and stoppers were found to be necessary to mitigate the above vibrations. In this paper, the vibration characteristics of the cable-stayed bridges of different sizes and the difference in the seismic retrofit design for the bridges are presented.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124541143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The unanimous observation reported in the literature is the early debonding of FRP shear reinforcement around the internal angles of the I-section. Because of this undesirable phenomenon, the strength of the FRP is utilized inefficiently. This paper gives an overview of the techniques utilized in the past and their relative performance in order to develop a rational solution to the debonding problem, particularly for I-sections. The anchoring techniques used in the past includes different types of FRP anchors as well as mechanical anchors to protect FRP shear reinforcement from debonding on the I-section. It can be concluded that the definite solution to the debonding problem on I-sections has not been obtained yet. This is because of the complex failure modes of FRP shear reinforcement and PC I-girders.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123772984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the characteristics of the existing methods dealing with different kinds of measured data are not yet clear enough for practical use. Therefore, this paper conducts a comparative study of several popular rule-based methods based on monitoring data of an arch-tied bridge in China. For measured data, outliers are not known in advance. In this way, this study evaluates and compares the detection performances rely on two indicators: the quantity of the detected outliers and the extreme value of the outliers deviating from the mean of the data. Conclusions on the features and applicable situations of involved methods are given. Additionally, combining the results of different methods proves to be beneficial. Finally, a software incorporating the research results is developed for outlier detection.","PeriodicalId":162435,"journal":{"name":"IABSE Congress, Ghent 2021: Structural Engineering for Future Societal Needs","volume":"58 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120853835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
