In fact the extended evolution of GLASS-based applications will imply the growth of fast and precise navigation systems. The aim of this study is to found an alternative solution to the classical non-coherent delay lock loop. In particular, the proposed method, based on self organizing map (SOM) a particular type of neural networks, allows to improve the performances in multipath channel.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. The semantic information of Landsat images is too poor for the generation of topographic maps, while QuickBird images do allow a mapping in the scale 1:5000. Not only the GSD is determining the possible map scale, also the spectral and radiometric resolution is important. The imaging conditions, especially the sun elevation with the corresponding length of shadows, do lead to quite different results especially in cities with narrow streets. The possibilities and limitations of mapping with the different space images, partially with the same image type taken in different month, has been analysed.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. The micro thruster has low power and energy thresholds for ignition and no moving parts, so they are expected to be highly reliable. Fabrication and assembly of array of 36 micropropulsion units proved the technological feasibility and the functioning performances. The electro-thermal process and gas dynamic characteristic of the micropropulsion is modeled and analyzed,. Eventually, a test platform is designed for micro-Newton second impulse bit. The initial test shows that the impulse is 4-11 /spl mu/Ns.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. This work present approaches for fire detection and fire monitoring. The described rare detection algorithm exploits a physical radiative transfer model based on a sub-pixel description of the remote sensing data. This model allows refining the detection capabilities in order to perform early detection by exploiting geostationary sensors which have a low spatial resolution but high temporal resolution. Polar sensors are used to supply updated parameters to the physical model. The described fire monitoring approaches allows estimating fire parameters and defining the evolution of the fire, using different spatial resolutions, in order to complete and refine the analysis performed by the detection algorithm.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. Since it's invention by Dr. Holland in 1990's, Genetic Algorithm (GA) has already gained popularity in a wide range of engineering applications. The genetic approach is used for processing of SAR imagery to find a region of a pre-defined criterion. In this study, the Memetic algorithm is used for the search method. It was seen that, the algorithm is superior to deterministic methods in terms of processing times and finding the global minimum points. The proposed method is suitable to SAR image processing where huge amounts of data have to be processed in very short time intervals.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. The satellite was launched by a COSMOS 3M launch vehicle from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia on September 27, 2003. After being injected in a sun synchronous orbit at a 686 km altitude, it was commissioned successfully via ground control station at TUBITAK-BILTEN. After commissioning, the regular operations have started. Many images have been gathered over Turkey and over various locations around the world. In contrast to large national Earth Observation satellites such as LANDSAT, EO-1 and Terra, BILSAT-1 addresses similar applications, with an emphasis on temporal resolution. BILSAT is a member of DMC (Disaster Monitoring Constellation), which is an international consortium with the member countries Turkey, UK, Algeria, Nigeria and China. The DMC satellites share the same orbit and separated from each other with a phase angle of 90 degrees. BILSAT as well as other DMC satellites has an on board propulsion and GPS navigation system by means of which the phasing of the DMC satellites is managed in a regular 6 months basis. BILSAT-1 also accommodates some experimental payloads on board, including a multi-band imaging system, a real time image compression module, a GPS attitude receiver and a Control Moment Gyro. First two of these payloads are Turkish payloads designed and developed by BILTEN engineers at TUBITAK-BILTEN. As well as these experimental payloads, BILSAT-1 also hosts some new technologies such as high capacity solid-state data recorders and star trackers. These experimental payloads and new technologies are being operated and in orbit performances are being tested. Since this is the very first LEO satellite that BILTEN has ever operated, some very valuable experience has been gained by BILTEN engineers about satellite operations.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. A major change of the predominantly theoretical nature of the satellite projects came into being in 2004, with the completion of an in-house Class 100.000 Clean Room. Along with equipment in laboratories located at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, this facility enables Delft University to not only design, but to actually produce and assemble a small student satellite in house as well. Learning about this affordable access to space, the space company Dutch Space approached the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering to discuss the possibility to test a new type of thin film solar cells in the space environment. In addition, the Dutch research institute TNO Science & Industry showed interest to join in with an autonomous Sun Sensor using a wireless link for data transfer. A third new technology is an advanced high efficiency transceiver sized for application in pico- and nanosatellites. With these three new technologies as primary payloads and the space proven CubeSat concept as a basic principle of design, the Delfi-C3 nanosatellite is to be the first satellite that is designed and realized at Delft University of Technology. The paper discusses the Delfi-C3 mission and its design philosophy. Furthermore, a description of its subsystems and payloads is given. Delfi-C3 is scheduled for a piggyback launch by the end of 2006.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. Taking salt crust as a criterion, Landsat TM with bands other than two and six was found effective, to a greater extent, in classifying the extremely and moderately saline area. Integration of GIS was found effective in classifying low and potential saline area as well as in correcting some of such area misclassified as extremely or moderately. The resulted salinity classes were confirmed with field check, existing map and soil analysis. Moreover, the classification result show more details. This study was tended lead to implement the integration of GIS with digital image processing of TM more effectively for classifying and monitoring saline soils in arid regions.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. Results are presented from a remote sensing study of the peculiarities of the leaf spectral reflectance of pea plants (Pisum salivum L.) treated with atrazine and 2.4-D (2.4 - phenoxyacetic acid) at three low concentrations (0.01 /spl mu/M, 0.1 /spl mu/M and 1 /spl mu/M, respectively 2.15, 21.5, and 215 /spl mu/g/l for atrazine and 2.59, 25.9, and 259 /spl mu/g/l for 2.4-D) as compared to the field dose of these herbicides commonly used in the agricultural practice. The physiological status of the plants was assessed using biometric and biochemical parameters such as length, fresh weight, dry weight and electrolyte leakage. The high-resolution spectral data were obtained using a multichannel spectrometer in the visible and near infrared ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum in 128 channels at a spectral resolution (halfwidth) of 2.6 nm. Using the technique which employs discriminant analysis and other statistical methods we established the presence of statistically significant differences in the arising variations of the leaf spectral reflectance characteristics between control and treated plants in the green (520+580 nm), red and near infrared (690+800 nm) ranges of the spectrum.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005.
