Another task is to compare variations of two main ionospheric parameters, f/sub 0/F2 and h/sub max/F2, on two chains of ionosondes located in Europe and North America during the interval October 16-28, 2003. This interval precedes the Halloween storm and includes its onset. Analysis is based on ionospheric data of the SPIDR system. The key findings are as follows. A positive peak of delta f/sub 0/F2 occurs some hours before onset of a magnetic storm or substorm, where delta is a deviation from the quiet value. This peak can serve as a forerunner of disturbance development. Delta f/sub 0/F2 peak amplitude reaches the sizes 20-100% of f/sub 0/F2 values. Similarities of delta f/sub 0/F2 variations on two chains are: (i) the delta f/sub 0/F2 peak mentioned above occurs simultaneously as a rule before disturbances on both chains; (ii) similar delta f/sub 0/F2 variations are observed on all of the mid-latitude (or high-latitude) ionosondes of each of the chain. Delta h/sub max/F2 variations are approximately the opposite of the f/sub 0/F2 variations. Their amplitudes fall in the range 15 - 25% from the average h/sub max/F2 value. The SSPS reference system, the SPS2000, the Sun Tower and recent Japanese models are among them. Some of them are designed with microwave power transmission (MPT) technology based on a microwave power transmitter with microwave tubes. Electronic tubes, such as klystron or magnetron, have high efficiency (>70%) and high power output (over kW). The other MPT system is a microwave power transmitter with semiconductor amplifiers. However, the efficiency of the semiconductor amplifier is still below 40% and still much more expensive compared with the microwave tubes. The power-to-weight ratio of the semiconductor amplifier is over 50g/W, and heavier than that of a microwave tube (below 30g/W). The higher the efficiency, the less launching weight and size required. We show a new concept of a microwave power transmission system using phase and amplitude controlled magnetrons (PACM) with high efficiency and we propose a new phased array system with PACMs for the SSPS.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. The ways to reach the autonomy are described - high reliability and adaptability of the system, reached by application of AI elements formal structural models (specification, verification and real time control) and dynamic reconfiguration. A method using trace models In real time for testing of system operations is described. The method is suitable for systems specified by process algebras (CSP - Communicating Sequential Processes, Timed CSP, ASM - Abstract State Machine, and TAM - Temporal Agent Model) where process tracts are used. The computing processes and these in the hardware are observed. Special control processes (tracers) are specified. They allow to control in real time the correspondence of the real system traces and preliminary computed traces (the formal specification) and send messages to the other subsystems when no correspondence (e.g. to specification and dynamic reconfiguration subsystems). The method allows finding in real, time the software and hardware incorrectly functioning (disparity of the traces) based on rigorous mathematical specification. In the paper are described: an autonomous control system structural model, an algorithm for real time traces control, software simulations (laboratory models) of autonomous systems, the faults and reaction of the tracer-processes, all based on CPPCSP - C++ Communicating Sequential Processes library. The application of trace models in real time allows find any system incorrectly operating and this is one of the ways for,increasing the onboard computer systeme reliability and to achieve full operation autonomy.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. The project is an initiative under the ESA Education Department and the Student Space Exploration and Technology Initiative (SSETI), an European student organisation. The satellite is currently scheduled for launch on the 30th or June 2005 atop a \"Cosmos\" launch vehicle from Plesetsk in Russia. This paper provides a description of the organisation behind the project and the mission of the satellite. Highly energetic electrons in the outer radiation belt disappear during the main phase of a magnetic storm, and rebuilding of highly energetic electrons is made during the recovery phase of the magnetic storm. The increase is caused by the supply of intermediate-energy electrons by substorms and these seed electrons are accelerated internally up to the MeV energy range by the intense plasma waves. The distance of the new peak of highly energetic electron flux from the Earth is inversely proportional to the amplitude of the magnetic storm. Integration of the magnetic activity index is a good proxy for the increase of the flux of MeV electrons, not only at the geostationary orbit altitude, but also in the outer radiation belt, which gives us a clue for the radiation belt forecast.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. This unit is one of the most important factors controlling the tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the basin insofar as these deposits are interpreted as decollement levels. Sivas Basin also has remarkable structural expressions within these evaporite deposits, as seen in satellite images aided by colour composites. Because of the arid climatic conditions of the region, the basin provides ease of interpretation geologically in terms of the synoptic-view capability of broad-band multispectral data sets, such as ASTER and Landsat ETM+. In this study, data fusion and decorrelation stretching methods were applied to highlight Oligocene gypsum deposits of the basin. These continental deposits host celestite and barite mineralization of great industrial importance. These gypsum deposits also carry a geohazard impact, namely their propensity to lead to collapses, particularly on the eastern side of the city of Sivas. Gravity on the Mars is about 1/3 of that on the Earth, and about 1/6 on the Moon. There is no atmosphere on the Moon, and it is minimal on the Mars. The radiation is much above the level that human beings or other living organisms can support. Daily temperature fluctuations are much above the levels accustomed. Supply of raw or manufactured materials is very difficult and expensive. These conditions and others bring in very important constraints on the types and constructional techniques to be used. Inner pressure to be provided within structures imposes spherical, toroidal or cylindrical shaped buildings. The need for protection against radiation favors underground, buried or covered structures. Lack of atmosphere and high level of radiation necessitates an advanced level of automatization using robots and tele-operated construction activities. Difficulty and high cost of supplying materials from the Earth increases the feasibility of using local materials. It will also finger out how to improve the whole system, which will make SSFF much more reliable. In this paper, a Small Satellite Formation Flying Simulation Platform (SSFFSP) is established, on which many components and devices of satellite can be tested and verified. The SSFFSP is made up of several simulative satellites and one control center. Each simulative satellite consists of several kinds of sensors and actuators, which are either physical or simulated. Five running modes are given for the formation flying control. Simulative satellites communicate with each other through the inter-satellite network. An inter-satellite network with rive layers is established and protocols are designed to meet the needs of SSFF. The inter-satellite network can support formation control, states measurement, operation of riles, operation of space missions, program uploading and updating, and network management. The SSFFSP is applied to some projects and experiments. The optimal control problem is converted into a parameter optimization problem. Then, simulated annealing based single and multiobjective optimization algorithms are used. The single objective optimization problem is formulated to minimize the total flight time, while the multiobjective formulation tries to maximize payload mass and orbit insertion velocity. The problem is also solved using our novel multiple cooling multiobjective simulated annealing algorithm. Turker","doi":"10.1109/RAST.2005.1512624","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/RAST.2005.1512624","url":null,"abstract":"In this study, Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) were generated from ASTER stereo images for a study area enclosing the city of Ankara and covering an area of 3600 km/sup 2/. Majority of the area was covered by large scale orthophotos, which were used as the main source to collect the Ground Control Points (GCPs). For those areas that were not covered by the orthophotos the GCPs were collected through a differential GPS. The bundle adjustment process and the generation of DEMs were carried out using PCI Geomatica image analysis software. In order to find the best GCP combination, DEMs were generated using different number of GCPs (8, 16, 24 and 32). DEM accuracies were assessed based on different parameters including the check points, slopes and land cover types. The accuracies of the resulting DEMs revealed that 16 GCPs were good compromise to produce the most accurate DEM. It was found that the post processing and blunder removal were crucial stages that affect the overall DEM accuracy up to 38%. There was a strong linear relationship between the accuracy of DEMs and the terrain slopes. For urban and forested areas, the accuracy in elevation was found to be 8.03 m and 12.69 m, respectively. The overall accuracy computed for 2,171,664 points produced 10.92 m elevation accuracy.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005.
