To do this we need the following: (1) First of all we must have available one or more reference vectors, i.e. unit vectors in known directions relative to the spacecraft (commonly used reference vectors are the Earth's magnetic field, and the unit vectors in the direction of the Sun, a known Star, or the centre of the Earth). (2) Given a reference vector, an attitude sensor measures the orientation of that vector (or some function of the vector) in the frame of reference of the spacecraft body. (3) Having done this for two or more vectors, we may compute the orientation of the spacecraft relative to these vectors. This paper describes the full attitude determination specification -Extended Kalman filter- using magnetometer and sun sensor measurement of the Alsat-1 first Algerian microsatellite in orbit : (1) Theoretical preliminaries on extended Kalman filter algorithm, (2) Extended Kalman filter application to Alsat-1 (System model, Process and Observation noise matrix), (3) In orbit results will be presented to evaluate the performance of the filter, (4) Conclusion.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. The demand of reduction of structural weight introduced composite materials to aerospace industry for the last a few decades. A widely utilization of the advanced composite materials in current launching equipment and air vehicles required the development of new technologies to improve monitoring of the composite aerospace components such as fuel tanks, boosters, fuselage or wings. This paper aims to make an overview for structural health monitoring technologies developed for aerospace applications, specifically for the composite structures.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. (Science and Technology Agency). Main emphasis of NASDA's Frontier Project was the complete understanding of lithosphere - atmosphere - ionosphere (LAI) coupling by making full use of different kinds of observational items and finally we would like to contribute to the short-term earthquake prediction. The most exciting finding from our Frontier project was the discovery of convincing evidence of the presence of seismo-ionospheric perturbations, which has been extensively investigated by using the subionospheric VLF/LF propagation, and several important findings have been presented, including the initial result for the Kobe earthquake and a few case studies from many data.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. We have tried to analyze the correlation between sea surface temperature, clouds and ozone layer thickness above the Black Sea by using simultaneously data from the satellite system NOAA, TOMS and ground stations. The anomalous changes in the examined atmosphere and sea surface parameters are described. Synoptical maps of Europe during the anomalies arc used in the research process. This paper discusses the extent to which ozone layer natural anomalies and meteorological conditions can lead to possible ecological changes. An electronic atlas of daily sea surface temperatures for the period 1985 - 1998 and the respective ozone layer condition has been published for the purposes of the research. The methods used in data processing and analyzing are described in the paper.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. In order to expedite development, an Integrated-Computer Aided Software Engineering-Environment (I-CASE-E) tailored for real time applications is used. To keep the approach general, the Satellite under consideration has a 3-axis stabilized bus with a generic payload. The I-CASE-E allows for model execution where one can find problems and issues that whiteboarding and document reviews are unable to find. Moreover, an incremental development can be effectively attained even in high-level architectural models. Major expected findings are higher quality software and more predictable delivery cycles.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. No doubt, the most effective way is by transferring the experience of space medicine and applying the major advances in information and communications technology (ICT) in civil healthcare. The aim of this paper is to establish the scope of eHealth based on an overview and comparison of nowadays status of eHealth in numerous countries, both developed and developing. The challenges, barriers and structure of the present eHealth world, i.e. industries supplying telemedicine arid eHealth products and solutions from one hand and the beneficiaries (healthcare systems and patients) from the other will be shortly presented. The paper will also stress on the big challenge at the present time, which is to make several different industries to coordinate their skills and efforts to achieve an optimal development within the health environment using modern communication systems as well as on the role of some international initiatives that have been established recently.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005. However, when technological, financial and human resources of Turkey are considered, Turkish Space Program (TSP) appears to be a challenge for the nation. To commit to achieve such a challenging goal, a solid systematic approach to all aspects of the space program must be devised and thoroughly applied. In this paper, we developed a systems engineering process model to apply throughout the total space program at each level of abstraction from the national level to component level. Furthermore, the evaluation criteria incorporated into national level is given, a set of systems engineering activities needed to manage the total space program is defined and some tools like total work breakdown structure and knowledge-base growth model to define the scope of the national space program is explained. As a conclusion, it is emphasized further that allocation of each element of the space program to relevant national organizations according to their capabilities is crucial for the success of the national space program.","PeriodicalId":156704,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies, 2005.
