The normalised phase coefficient, ß/k0, is calculated for a range of values for the two media, first with (¿r1 = 1, ¿r1 = 1) and then with (¿r1 = 1, ¿r1 = -1) assuming - 5 < ¿r2/¿r1 < 5, -5 ¿r2/¿r1 < 0. This range of parameters includes some \"double negative\" cases for the second medium. Dispersion diagrams are presented for the case where region 1 is an artificial magnetic dielectric and region 2 is a semiconductor plasma. The results have implications for the design of miniature passive components.","PeriodicalId":156210,"journal":{"name":"2003 33rd European Microwave Conference, 2003","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129664683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing designs of sand monitor are widely used and often provide useful results, but they can require regular calibration and may struggle to provide reliable quantitative measurements. At the University of Liverpool we have been investigating the propagation of EM waves through various mediums within the oil pipe including oil, gas, water and sand in order to quantify the percentage of medium mixtures. This paper will describe the microwave system set-up including the transmitter and receiving antennae. Experimental results of various mixtures including sand will be presented.","PeriodicalId":156210,"journal":{"name":"2003 33rd European Microwave Conference, 2003","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132063916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new design approach utilizes switching operation of FETs. All input power, in this configuration, is directed alternately to each single branch of a pair of parallelly connected FETs corresponding with the polarity of the anti-phase input signal without split of the input power, thereby resulting in enhancing conversion gain. Measurement results demonstrate improvement of 2.87 dB in conversion gain and output power relative to a single-ended structure. For doubling from 5 to 10 GHz the new scheme shows a maximum conversion gain of 11.67 dB.","PeriodicalId":156210,"journal":{"name":"2003 33rd European Microwave Conference, 2003","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131939590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The electromagnetic simulation, the fabrication process, and measurement results of the Small Toggle Switch are given. The switch in its smaller geometry inherits the outstanding RF performance which could even be extended with an insertion loss of 0.95 dB and an isolation of 16 dB up to 50 GHz. These measurement results are in good agreement with the simulation. Power measurements (2 W) in the frequency range from 8 to 18 GHz did not show a self actuation of the switch.","PeriodicalId":156210,"journal":{"name":"2003 33rd European Microwave Conference, 2003","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133843055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instead of using one high power tube, each radiating element must contain a full T/R module allowing an individual modulation of amplitude and phase of both transmit and receive signal. In this paper some general information about these components are given as well as the latest achievements in terms of power amplifiers are described. These techniques are the bi-orthonormal-basis combined with the orthonormal-basis method, the hybrid mode-matching/spectral method, and, finally, the BI-RME (Boundary Integral-Resonant Mode Expansion) method. Then, two prototypes of band-pass filters have been designed in this work using a CAD tool developed in the research groups implicated in this manuscript. The procedure described in this paper only involves a limited number of actual physical parameters at each step so that it is computationally very efficient and rapidly convergent. Improving the performance of the standard all-inductive filters (without dielectric resonators), the novel topologies present a reduction of the volume and a larger band free of spurious, maintaining the low-cost high-precision manufacturing properties.","PeriodicalId":156210,"journal":{"name":"2003 33rd European Microwave Conference, 2003","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121999498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed switch has a movable SiN membrane with a signal line and ground lines above a dielectric-air-metal (DAM) cavity on which a ground metal is patterned, resulting in a structure of GCPW transmission line. The electrostatic force makes an RF short path to the ground metal on the bottom of the DAM cavity with metal-to-metal contact.
