Traditional algorithms are computational expensive or low precision when we do camera calibration in sport video analysis. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to detect the grid-like target (i.e. tennis court in TV broadcasting). It has 3 parts: (1) color histogram based interested point classifier making our method faster; (2) sub-pixel refinement by non-linear least squares method improving the accuracy; (3) extended line scan using interested point as the start/end point finding the final line parameters. Results indicate that our detector is faster (<9ms), more accurate and requires less memory than Hough based algorithms if target is grid-like: \"straight lines link together\".","PeriodicalId":155352,"journal":{"name":"2010 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121538837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is proposed that the liquid level images are directly projected onto the linear charge coupled device without any optical lens by using light emitting diode. The method is studied experimentally with a measuring device, which is designed for the proposed method on the basis of field programmable gate array and a host computer. Field programmable gate array is used as the control core to generate timing pulses and to control the main chips of the hardware circuit. The host computer is used to process the image data. The proposed method is on the basis of the contact measurement and has the advantages of high precision, high reliability, good real-time performance and so on. The experimental results show that the changes of the temperature have little effect on the measuring accuracy. In addition, the measuring device works normally even in some rigorous environments, such as in corrosive liquid and in sloshing liquid. Therefore, the proposed method has great potentialities, especially in small range and high precision situation.","PeriodicalId":155352,"journal":{"name":"2010 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114856713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this approach, a set of couple different equations for the evolution of the pulse width and chirp are obtained. We annalyse the propagation of dispersion and nonlinearity-managed solitons. The result demonstrates that compared with only dispersion management, a dispersion and nonlinearity-managed soliton can propagate with higher quality. In the calculation, the output coupling mirror loss, the diffraction loss and the inner-cavity loss, have been taken into consideration. The calculation results indicate that in the condition of uniform gain, small signal gain coefficient (SSG) increasing, higher order modes' gain are greater than loss. The output power increases and laser beam quality gets worse. In the condition of non-uniform gain, the mode near threshold is symmetric distribution. When the gain gets increasing, light intensity increases, non-uniform pump impact of the mode field increasingly evident. Mode field peak offsets to the pump direction and beam quality gets worse.","PeriodicalId":155352,"journal":{"name":"2010 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125778601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different approaches have been developed in order to find out the solution in many different segmentation situations. In this paper a novel method for rock fracture image using improved pulse coupled neural networks (PCNN) is presented. We apply progressive scan and region marked method to detect accurate edges of rock fracture images, the experiment results show that the proposed method can be used as a new image edge detection method. The origin of THz oscillations is contributed to Gunn-effect. The dependence of the Gunn oscillations on geometric parameters and bias conditions has been studied. By using proper parameters, the oscillation frequency can reach 0.6 THz. Moreover, potential applications are discussed in terms of the ease of heat dissipation and generation of oscillations at different frequencies on a single chip, in contrast to a conventional vertical-structure Gunn diode.","PeriodicalId":155352,"journal":{"name":"2010 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134453398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An easy method to measure visibility was presented in this paper. Digital camera was adopted to get the images of a target which had a clear boundary between it and its background (such as the sky). Then the luminance ratio method was applied to obtain the visibility. To verify the feasibility of this method, image data were taken at 8:00, 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00 every day using a digital camera in Qingdao. The visibility values were compared with those announced by Qingdao Meteorological Bureau, and the deviations were acceptable. In view of the simplicity of this measurement method, it is promising in the future for application in real life.","PeriodicalId":155352,"journal":{"name":"2010 Symposium on Photonics and Optoelectronics","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130815782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
